Murray was such a gift to The Church of God of Prophecy and a humble servant to Bishop M.A. Tomlinson. Bishop Murray wasn't seeking mans approval here or anywhere else and did many things behind the scenes as a humble servant. I had the honor of being in the service when this happened. Bishop John Doroshuk was also one of the men led by the Holy Spirit here and who is known as a wonderful Man of God. 1 Tim 5:17 "Let the elders who rule well be counted to receive double honor, especially those whole labor in word and doctrine."
I love this. I had heard about it when it happened. I was unable to be at assembly that year. But, I met Bro. Murray many times after this. He was a very anointed man. He had a glow about his face. This is the most powerfully spiritual video I've ever seen. I'm so glad you posted it.
Interesting to me that one year after this event, he (Billy Murray) pushed through a Q&S recommendation to change doctrine that went against nearly 90 years (at that time) of long-held belief by the entire church regarding the 26th teaching. This was just the beginning of more extreme changes to come.
I am not a part of the COGOP or The Church of God… but I don’t think I’ve ever seen people so bitter about something in all my life. The group that splintered off of this group made a video recently trying to destroy the character of this man. The organization put out a video that named names and pronounced judgment upon them.

Grew up in the COGOP in the 80s, as a kid, I saw many powerful moves of God then, but sadly its not that way anymore, as for many churches. When I gave my life to God as an adult 11yrs ago, the Lord told me churches are no longer preaching Holiness, Repentance, or My return. The Lord told me He was coming soon and the churches are in apostasy. The Lord is coming for a Remnant called by His name. Do not get caught up in denominations or man. Do your homework and read the book of Acts, it is the original church, do as they did, do not follow man.
Friend God has taken His Church out of the arm of the flesh and has gone on. The Church of God is still alive and well, and His Holy Spirit is still moving in His Bride. Now, 28 years later, we can see how men sought position and power in the name of saving theocracy. Again and again men crowned themselves with titles of authority using the justification they are "God called" to save The Church of God. Theocracy is not so fragile that the only way to save it is to split the body, and The Church of God already has a Savior, whose name is Jesus, and does not need yet another General Overseer. They wrap themselves in the legacy of past leaders in an effort to validate their own reach for position. They do not realize they will be judged in comparison to those men whom they leach from. This is a spiritual version of "stolen valor" and those who engage in such practices should not be leaders.
The original teaching of the Church of God is that they are the exclusive Bride of Christ, while other Christians are in the family of God. In your opinion, is the Church of God of Prophecy today still the exclusive Bride of Christ? If not, when did they lose that title? Did it go to the Concerned group at this time? Who is the Bride of Christ today?
The record and documents show that Bishop M. A. Tomlinson recognized his need to vacate the office due to his inability to fulfill the duties he felt God required of him. Bishop Tomlinson announced, in writing, his plans to vacate the office to the leadership of the church. He called the COGOP Presbytery together to select a new General Overseer, setting the time and place with a desire give his replacement ample time to organize the coming General Assembly. It is clear in public statements and actions that he supported the choice of Bishop Murray, and that support extended to private conversations, including those with his family. There is no documentation that would validate any other conclusion. There is no doubt that some of the participants of the Presbytery engaged in insubordinate actions and words. Likewise, some of those who both supported and opposed the selection of the new General Overseer were politically motivated for their own ends. Some of the very leaders who said later they opposed Bishop Tomlinson vacating the office (as the Assembly Minutes allowed), professing that he was General Overseer for life, were some of the same ones who before he retired very vocal about his disabilities. Much is blamed on the Holy Spirit, when it is the opinion and aspirations of men that is really being expressed.
The selection of a General Overseer has to be through a unanimous agreement. Anything passed through the assembly has to be done unanimously. It wasn't so that means he was selected outside of the church's guidelines or Theocracy.

If Bishop Tomlinson was "forcefully removed" from office and still General Overseer, how could "The Church of God, Charleston, TN" place Bishop Pruitt in as General Overseer? Tomlinson was still live then as well. Please be consistent with your take on church history.

Instead men (The Questions and Subjects Committee) decided to install him without confirmation from the Holy Ghost. I have the minutes of the 1990 Assembly. There is a part that says "We reccomend to submit Billy D Murray for your consideration." Something like that. Not to mention a Democratic like system that was used in the 1990 Presbytery Meeting. With a vote of 48 to 33. This Overseer was "Elected" and not Selected and Anointed by the Holy Ghost. He has faced the judgement of God.
