    Shingju, the word itself makes your mouth water. If you had tasted it, you know it all. If you hadn't, it is a must try. So, what is Shingju you may wonder! Shingju is a spicy Manipuri salad, a delight for those who love hot and spicy food.Singju is a speciality of Manipuri cuisine, particular of the Meitei community. Owing to its popularity, it has come to be consumed by most people in the region. The salad, made of different green vegetables specific to the region, is eaten as snacks, starters or a side dish. There are different types of Shingju you can make depending on the choice of raw leafy ingredients.

    To make Manipuri Singju:
    • In a bowl, add
    1/2 cup nakupi leaves,
    1 cup shredded cabbage,
    1 tbsp julienned ginger.
    Now add a 7-8 basil leaves,
    1/2 cup raw papaya & 7-8 Yuna root
    To make a drizzle :
    • In a bowl, add
    1tbsp roasted Gram flour,
    dry real chillies to taste,
    1/2 tbsp ground perilla seeds,
    pink saft to taste & mix.
    • Adel this dressing to the salad & toss.
    • Manipuri Singju is now ready.
    • Garnish with dry roasted real chillies, olive oil &
    serve this delicious salami,

    In singju the most important and main ingridiant is fermented fish (ngari). We never ever use any oil in it. This is quite wrong without fermented fish we can't call it singju.

      We use Ghost pepper instead of Red chilli.

      Ngari is not compulsory for the singju, we have vegetarian version of singju. The singju u eat at meramess usop is vegetarian.
      But yes we don't put oil as a salad dressing

      Actually ngari and ghost pepper 🌶️ is not available in a lot of places outside of northeast 😅.

    Yeh bilkul galat hai. Fermented fish k bina singju k taste achha nahi hota hai. Agar aap vegetarian hai toh besan n perilla seeds k saath bana sakhte hai par jyaada quantity use karna hota hai. Jaise aapne dikhaya hai yeh toh pure tasteless n bekar hoga. Singju peh lemon or oil use kabhi nahi karte hamare yahan so, please acche se research karne k baad video banaye 🙏🙏

    See guys they tried to make it universally palatable coz I can't eat fermented fish in a salad....we eat it only in curry style...and as it is mentioned you can modify it according to your taste right...most of the Manipuri ingredients are not available outside Manipur so we have to look for alternatives...

    If you(viewers) guys wanna make our indigenous delicious Singju properly please watch Manipuri youtube channels for proper ingredients....also in this video they don't use most important ingredient Ngari (Fermented fish).....also Eating Singju( kind of salad) is very good for our health

    To make Singju without Ngari (fermented fish) is like making a car without an engine. It doesn’t make any sense. You might as well call it a Mediterranean Salad. Please eat the authentic one first to appreciate its taste.

    Yes singju can be prepared without ngari(fermented fish) also. Dear frnds dnt b very preoccupied with what can and what cannot be in a particular style of cooking or dishes. Now we do have mimi singju, a style of singju ingredient which wud be reacted quite surprisingly like here in this comment section by our grandfathers. Singju are prepared without ngari in meramesh items by bamon. But Using oil in singju, all manipuris will raise their eyebrows for sure.

    😂 imagine making a video of butter chicken by just frying a whole chicken in the butter and add some completely out of context ingredient to suit the taste of the mainstream like some olive oil and some strawberry and who knows what and called it butter chicken …..i cant even 😂😂

    The most important ingredient is missing and raw papaya must be grated not chopped in big size and mixing should be done with hands not spons.
    And we can't say it's singju when u missed the most important ingredient

    This is not the right way to do manipuri singju we don't put ginger and the way how to chop the vegetables , will not get the smell of it and when we mix we used our hands in order to gets the specific smell ... Btw it's very great that our dish is on the tv show 🥰

    It deeply hurts my feelings to say that it is shinchu.
    Shinchu never put oil and ginger. Shinchu is not a salad. Shinchu is shinchu. The way she made it is just like "Paneer Momo"
    Shinchu's real taste comes if you squeeze or smash by hand.

    Anyone from KV Lamphelpat? We use to have Singju during our break, the Immas (old womens) use to sell it outside our school...don't remember how much it use to cost...but use to be very yummy...
