    Such a jewel. I have found some much smaller walnut down on hillsides. Hard as a rock. Very deep reddish brown. I cut them up on my jointer and bandsaw and usually get some nice small project pieces from them.

      A green black walnut log laying on the dirt will sprout out the side if kept wet. If you bury it, you grow new trees from it. I have had to cut green shoots off of logs that had been laying around for months.

    I love Walnut. It is at 1010 on the Janka scale and the beauty of the grain, if you are lucky enough to get lumber from that large a Walnut Tree, is so beautiful all it needs is a clear coat. My dream is to make a dining room table out of Walnut slabs and use another wood that mimics the lighter shades for chairs so that they table is the center of attention. I'm drooling over here.

    I have watched a ton of your videos and have always wondered how you guys with the log turners get really nice lumber without ripping goughes in it. I noticed in one part as the blade passed and saw how bad the cant was boogered by the log turner teeth. Seems to me if you was making a nice live edge mantel it would be ruined.

    • @unclegreybeard3969
      @unclegreybeard3969 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's probably the reason that such slabs would be put through a planer get the required finish, planers would remove log turner scars as well as saw blade scratches.

    You ever see any snakes (Copperheads or even Rattlesnakes) hanging around your log pile down there?? Reason I ask, I heard today (Saturday 9-30-23) About a boy up in Fairmont, WV that was out looking at some logs a tree guy brought him last spring. And the grass had grown up around them as it does. And he got struck and injected by what he called a "Pretty good sized Rattlesnake" Apparently he had a tape measure in his right hand and had it extended out about 8" and reached down to hook the end of the tape on the but end of the log. And about that time he heard the snake start to "Buzz" And he jerked his hand back and the snake got him just infront of the wrist pin on the meaty bottom of the palm. And hit/injected him pretty good. The Ambulance got him to the Hospital in Morgantown. But apparently they said he world be in better hands in Pittsburgh and they had more experience with snake bits and more accessibility to Snake Anti Venom up there. Supposedly this happened some time in the last 5-7 days.
