I'd have chucked one out the window. You'd be disqualified, but making Alex search for hours for an aubergine that wasn't there would be worth it

Makes you think that the first person to hide them had an advantage as each person in turn found more and more hiding places
If David was first, it really does not matter.
They could of but it seemed all the odd hiding spaces they used, none of them used the same spot. So I don’t think there was really any advantage.

I believe they do some dry runs with staff first, to make sure the task is completable/fun/etc so I imagine Alex got enough of an idea through that that it didn't really affect much

I'd have pulled an Osmand and argued that "hide the aubergines in this room" can be interpreted as "hide the aubergines which are in this room" and chucked one out the window

The instructions stated "Hide three aubergines in this room". Your interpretation would be invalid.

I don't understand why you'd hide multiple Aubergines together???
Even if you hide one in a good spot and the other two in really bad spots, that still buys you more time than just the good spot by itself.

The only reason I can think of- and it's not a good one- is psychological. If you've already found 1 or 2, you know you've nearly finished. If you haven't managed to find ANY yet, it preys on your mind. Tactics for playing hide and seek....
But i know it's not a good enough reason.

I admire that he was competitive but still able to laugh about his bad performances. Unlike competitors like Iain Sterling and Tim Key, who argued with every decision and sulked when they failed.
@@mannmctrash I think Tim Key set the precidence for outthinking the task in the first series. He works for the show now. But yeah Ian Sterling was just aggressively competitive without any hint of irony.

In a Finnish adaptation of this, a contestant asked the camera crew to stuff them in their pants and the judge never found them.
That's actually brilliant, that is.
This channel single-handedly balances my seratonin levels.

i really do enjoy the tasks where it's alex vs the contestants :D and alex has to frantically run around (this, and the find alex and hit him with a ball task)
The comedic timing of the aubergine falling when Alex pointed at it is amazing
It's so rair to see Alex laugh as a judge, when he's a contestant he's a whole new person

David should’ve cut all the aubergine up into little pieces and put them all over the room. He had the knife, he just couldn’t be bothered.
No-one let the side down this series. Even the less competent, like Jo and David, were hilarious in their incompetence! Nice balance of personalities and fantastic tasks as always!

I wonder if there were any more aubergines available in the fridge. The task says to hide three aubergines, and make Alex take as long as possible to find those aubergines. If you got a fourth aubergine, and held it behind your back or hung it in the window or something but specified it wasn't one of the three you were hiding, then Alex would spot it and think he was done after finding only two of the real aubergines.
Oh Jo should have played harder at demonstrating that she hadn't hidden it in her, Alex would have been so uncomfortable.

I would have taped atleast part of one to the bottom of the table, task master style. Maybe left a clue somewhere in the room so that he felt silly for not finding it after 🤣

This task along with Alex hide and seek in s4 was what got first recommended to me and what got me into Taskmaster

TH-cam apparently demands that I rewatch this multiple times.. It’s been the fifth or so recommended video on my home feed all day. I wonder how many other people rewatch these clips every few weeks or so
Why is this re-uploaded? This was the first task I saw on Taskmaster! Got me hooked about a year ago.
I think this is my all time favourite task. The season one potato throw or Nish’s basket ball chip are close though

Raw eggplants aren't actually poisonous, they are just thoroughly disgusting. Very bitter and woody.

To date, this is by far my favorite task. Purely because we got to see Alex go mad while looking.
The trick is to physically block Alex from searching. Wrestle him to the ground if you have to.
None of them took the opportunity to say "all the information is in the Task, Alex."

Stupid idea but ask the production crew for more aubergines, hide the ones you were given and leave the new ones in plain view.

Was Alex making a KLF reference with Baddiel’s intro? He will always carry a vague whiff of the early 90s about him.
The best approach would have been a hybrid of Jo's and David's. Smash all three aubergines and eat a small amount. Hide another small amount in your pants or your shoes. Gather up the rest and arrange them into two piles. Hide the two piles in obvious places.
Alex would find the two piles thinking he'd only found 2, but he'd never find the last bits.
IMO just use the cubbies on the right wall - Probably put two bits of aubergine in there, the rest hidden around the room.

i'd have used that secret compartment in the bookshelf.
Print off three pictures of an aubergine, and hide those. The others would have complained that it’s not actually an aubergine, but you would get bonus points for creativity.

Flatten one down and stuff it down your pants- oh, I just got up to the pants bit.
On revision, cut them all up into tiny, mostly flat pieces then tape those pieces to the insides of pull-out objects, the top at the back of the inside of drawers, on the bottom of the rug, and under a bunch of other objects + make it look like I just trashed the room and then hide them in it tactically, piling heavy furniture on top. Then for added measure, add two pieces to my pants, and one to my shoe and sit down, get up and walk around mocking Alex to top it all off.
Nah but you're at a significant disadvantage if you're the last to do the task cos Alex would already know most the hiding places & where people commonly hide the aubergines.

Slice Aubergines up, lift corner of carpet, place slices of Aubergine under, replace carpet.
You would have to be very sharp-eyed to notice a slightly uneven carpet in the far corner of the room.

If I ever try this, I think I'd be giving each location a hearty look around before opening the letter. Im surprised that ripping them into pieces counted as making Alex look for said pieces, rather than finding one piece counted that fruit.
Sort of surprised that nobody left the room to get anything to make the task easier. The aubergines had to be hidden in there but it didn't say you couldn't leave the room. Something like liquifying the aubergines in a blender would have made them easier to conceal in a small area. Although I do realize them being old and dry may have complicated that tactic. Also, I guess if Alex had to leave the room but was still in the house he'd have clued into that tactic. But at least if you'd liquified the aubergines and poured them behind the bookcase or into one of the plants or the musical instruments on the shelf, you may not have won the task but "Taskmaster" would have had to acquire a new house.

I would've shaved a few small pieces off, hidden them and left the main parts of the aubergines clearly on the table. Mind games 🤣
