    Synology’s longevity is a very nice quality. I’ve used their NAS’s for going on 15 years or more now. And I’ve not lost any files upgrading the NAS twice.

    You're right about Reolink's own software being a bit of a challenge to setup. But, having already tried to setup both Synology's and QNAP's Surveillance Stations, I went back and persevered with the Reolink. Once you sort it out, it's quite capable for a simple home surveillance setup and far simpler. I have 5 Reonlink cameras on mine. The Reolink cams ftp the jps' and mp4's to my old, spare QNAP which then uploads the jpg's to Google Drive if I'm away from home. Couldn't be simpler.
    I hear you on the Huawei story and 100% agree. So, I create a profile in my Synology router for the cameras and only allow them access to the storage folder and no outside IP address; ie, no phoning home.

    I want to have good integration with HomeKit, so I am going with cameras that work well with Scrypted. Based upon that, I look for:
    *Local RTSP
    *Wired connection (power over ethernet). Use wireless sparingly.
    *2-3 (sub)streams. More sub streams provides Scrypted with the flexibility to provide the best stream for any connection.
    * configureable bitrate.

    Its quite clear that people to typically decide what to buy, whether it PoE cameras or anything else, based mostly on price. The hardest part of deciding what is the best value *in the long term* though is being able to predict what it is you're going to need down the road. Its always been my experience that the moment one factors in the cost of their own time, and they place a tangible value on that time, the *better one* (however one decides that) is usually the cheaper one overall.

    all in all, i am looking for a good low cost home setup, 4-8 cameras, mixed with old already installed wired, and for POE abilities, i know im in the wrong place. but i have no idea where to start and afford, something to replace my simple qsee dvr with already installed/wired cameras.

    Hello, first of all thank you for your review on both manufacturers. This might be a stupid question but what if you would link a Reolink 4K camera onto the DVA 1622? Will it still have its full potential in AI deep learning as Synology states for its DVA 1622?

    Helpful video, thanks. Am looking to add 4 outdoor cameras and this was an interesting comparison...however, If synology cameras were half their price, I'd still go with Reolink. I have 6 Reolink cameras and the apps on mobile and desktop are superb, as is the image quality and relibility. Synology have to be taking the michael with those prices for very basic, old tech.

    There are some terrible reviews on the 1622 including limited FPS according to how many cameras are hooked up. Also being limited to 2 cameras for most features apparently and one person had R/A 3 units all of which would not read the #1 drive. I went from all in to all out.

    I’ve never gotten any 3rd party IP camera to work with surveillance station… 😰

    You left off an important part of Synology Cameras. No licenses are needed for those cameras which changes the price differential significantly.

    Qnap cameras?

  • @chrishalle1982
    @chrishalle1982 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    There is a simple answer. You dont need a licence for synology cameras. So go for the synology ones if you want as much cameras as you want without paying extra.

    • @littlefootfeet
      @littlefootfeet 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This means the licenses that come with a synology can only be used for their own cameras.. which.. also come with a license? And reolink/third party can’t be used with surveillance station at all?

    • @IntoxicatedVortex
      @IntoxicatedVortex 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@littlefootfeet There's a myriad of cameras that will work with Synology Surveillance Station. But those will require a license past the 2nd camera per NAS you wish to store to. If you decide to switch camera brands to something else those license will still work with something else. The difference with Synology cameras is that they will never require an additional license for Surveillance Station.
      If your software of choice is Surveillance Station then there is value in the Synology cameras for that. If you don't care for Surveillance Station then this video comparison probably isn't meaningful to you as I don't see a lot of sales of Synology cameras to those without a Synology NAS. This would be one of the choices to potentially go with Ubiquiti.

    • @west
      @west 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Define "without paying extra". The Reolink 4k 8MP is about $87 right now. A Synology license is $60. So you're looking at about $150. Synology's cameras is 5 MP and $242. So yes, the license is included but it's still $90 more than the Reolink + additional license. Maybe Synology's AI and additional features are worth it but just for the built in license it is not.

    • @p0ddie
      @p0ddie 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      License + Reolink is still cheaper, also I can't get something like a 823A (zoom PTZ) from Synology.

    Reolink also has terrible / no customer support.
