I would agree with you in some respects. I have had both positive and negative experiences with different groups. Some are worse than others. I apply “take what you need and leave the rest” to these scenarios. Like the real world, you have to learn to navigate different personalities. Some are committed to recovery, some are using and collecting tags, some are poor and have no other option. It’s a model and an option. It isn’t the only solution. If you have had negative experiences with NA, I hear ya. I am hoping to make changes from the inside.
@@sigmarecovery699 Agree with ya but it’s hard to make changes when members in area or in local groups stay in there position for decades with that happening there can be no change I got clean in Seattle NA moved to Boston in 2010 them moved to Mesa AZ in 2014 it’s all the same East to West controllers of the groups the Area and NAWS

@@PlayStation1Purist I hear ya. It’s a problem the organization needs to address. “Principles over personalities”. What you are describing is a personality issue. Some groups are more toxic than others. The toxic ones tend to rot from the inside and sort themselves out. Other members pick up on that nonsense too. Word gets around what groups work and which ones don’t. I had to switch home groups bc of the sort of toxicity you are talking about. It’s sucks you had a negative experience. You found somebody that goes to NA that shares your sentiments. Something to think about. I have found that navigating these sort of people is not unlike navigating the real world. Some people are just assholes dude, taking the drugs away won’t cure that. It’s shitty you had to deal with that kinda bullshit. It ain’t the NA way. “The only requirement for membership is the desire to stop using”: Nowhere in the literature, steps, or principles does it say anything about the garbage you are talking about. When anyone starts flapping on to me about crap like you experienced, I toss the words of the literature back in their lap. “Take what you need, leave the rest”. So far, they turn and run. Good luck on your recovery journey. I don’t blame ya. Keep talking about your experience with NA.
