  • 'Mountain Turks' tells the story of Erik Bradshaw, an avid mountaineer who turned his crazy idea of building backcountry huts out of water tanks into New Zealand's first ski traverse, and in the process built a thriving alpine community. The film is a powerful testament to the transformative power of community, the limitless potential of the human spirit, and the enduring spirit of New Zealand's mountaineering community.

Mark, WHAT AN AWESOME DOCUMENTARY!!! The subject, the people, the story, everything. And the technique. Filming, time lapse, drone shots, editing, music EVERYTHING!!! So motivational. Not only do I want to travel halfway around the world and be part of that community to assist in building a turk. I’m also super inspired to learn how to make a documentary. Someday I hope to hit the level you have produced. Well done.

Wow, thank you! Those are huge compliments! I'm stoked to hear the film left you inspired. Sometimes the subject matter, the characters and the resources all happen to align which was true for this documentary. Couldn't have made without the generosity from so many different people including Erik's family, turk members, local film crews, the production company I was working for which kindly let me borrow their gear... It takes a village to make a documentary!

The quote, "The great thing about geology is the rocks won't come to you so you have to travel the world to find the things you're interested in," is a lot more poignant than on the surface.
Great doc. I am an editor who has recently gotten an itch to get into filmmaking. Your channel's been a pleasure to check out.

I remember smiling at that quote when I was shooting that interview with John and Margaret. They’re such an interesting family. I couldn’t believe all the facts that were coming out the more I got to know Erik and his family.
Thanks for watching! I’m glad you’re finding the channel helpful in your journey into filmmaking!

@@johanssonfilms Yeah it's been fun watching and learning a bunch of stuff. I am a lifelong learner.
I used to be heavily into photography 15+ years ago. SO much has changed since then. I want to grab a BMD Pyxis camera but have NO clue about lenses! It's all that new hobby energy where I am scarfing down information right now lol.
      Look forward to seeing more!

@@sleepingsage I love that stage of a new hobby! I swear I adopt a new hobby every 10 minutes. Lately it’s been writing. I have a low-key goal of eventually writing a screenplay or book… but who knows how long this hobby will last hahaha

I watched some of your client projects. I really like your stuff. They have a great sense of space and feel. I can tell YOU made them.
      Great inspiration.
(From your other Doc-related video) Milanote might be some free content for going over how to use it. I couldn't quite figure out how to replicate what you did, and my natural reaction was to find out how. Food for thought :D

I plan on breaking down other elements of this film on my channel going forward, so if you're curious, watch out for those in the future!
