  • For a person who never played the game it is hard to imagine Rugby League in New Zealand without thinking of the Mad Butcher. Few people have done as much as him to raise the profile of Rugby League in New Zealand. Sir Peter’s journey with Rugby League began back in 1971 sponsoring his local Mangere East Hawks club in South Auckland. With the arrival of the then Vodafone Warriors in 1995 Sir Peter used his own business and advertising to promote them. Sir Peter talks about how proud he was to be made the honorary away manager for the Warriors in the 1990’s and travelling with them to games in Australia and his memorable time as the Manager of the New Zealand Kiwis when they overcame the undefeated Kangaroos 24-0 in the 2005 Tri-Nations tournament final.
Nothing but positive things to say about the club and the game, Sir Peter talks about some of the meaningful connections he has made with people involved with the club, fans, players, coaches and administrators over the years.
He received a Queens Service Medal in 1991 and was made a Knights companion of the Order of Merit in the Queens Birthday Honours List for his work with many charities over the years.
