It takes a lot of dedication to make videos like this. I can’t imagine how many times you’ve had to play this game in order to find little details like this.
For convenience, or if you wanna play as a Rogue, I'd highly recommend starting in Limsa. Visually speaking, I think Limsa is the most interesting starting area, plus Limsa has the most convenient to navigate city-state of the three. Just as long as you don't start in Gridania, you're good. I almost dropped the game after starting in Gridania for how boring and difficult to navigate it was, until a friend convinced me to give the game another chance, and I started in Limsa as an Arcanist. Thousands of hours later, here I am!
I can drink to that my first time trying I started in Gridania as a Archer. I despised every second and dropped the game. A friend wanted to give it a try with me so I agreed since playing with friends is nice so we both started in Ul'dah. I enjoyed Ul'dah a lot more since I knew where I was going.
I've always loved the details of how things like starting city, class progression, grand company progression, even raid and some side quest progress actually affects dialogue. That all this stuff you do actually gets recognized and commented on from time to time.
I actually cried that part... Because at that point in my life i was going through a very very hard time and when she said that part I remember starting out the game very excited. My how much life indeed hath changed.
Thank you for highlighting this!! I never knew the dialogue was different but I did start in Ul'dah and that scene with Nanamo is so touching. I'm a Gridania girlie mostly now and hardly ever come back to Ul'dah but whenever I do, the night music always gets me feeling some kind of way

little changes like this mean everything to me tbh. thus far my favorite one is in stb. it's really small and not in an important part of the msq but it made me so so so happy
I started in Ul'Dah. I honestly love Nanamo and I consider myself to be a Sultanist. My friends are all Limsa lovers and I have a house at Gridania, but I can't help but still consider my homeland to be in Ul'Dah. That's why I have portraits of Nanamo in my house. No matter where I go, Ul'Dah will always be where I come from.
I'm replaying the story on an alt right now. Originally, I went with Lancer, obv becoming a Dragoon, and found the little nods to that later in the game super cool. But I started as a Monk this time (ultimately switched to get the Dragoon scenes) and the nods to starting in Ul'dah made me giddy like a child. It's such a great touch. As are the times you're referred to by your rank in your GC. I didn't remember this happening a lot when I was with the Twin Adder GC, but I picked Ul'dah this time and, again (with how much you interact with Rauhban), I've noticed it so much in so many scenes. ❤
