    I used to work at a guitar company. It sounds to me like someone at Fender swiped leftover parts whenever they could, and built themselves a cool damn one off! And now it yours.

    Fender 100% put rosewood fret boards on their American Specials prior to 2014 with a sunburst finish.
    I have one hanging on my wall. That I bought brand new early 2011, that is a 2010 year model. From one of Pittsburgh’s highest reputable fender dealers. HSS, Texas special neck and middle, Fender Atomic bridge. If I run the serial number on fenders site…comes back to exactly what I have.

    Sounds like someone had some nice pieces laying around and made a pretty darned nice Strat.

    There is no way the factory got it wrong. The neck is not from an American Special. The truth is someone took the neck off the Midnight Wine Hwy 1 and put it on the American Special.

    I'm into the video about 5 minutes. As someone that just sold a 2007 that i had for 10 years, it was a satin finish THREE tone.
    The poles were flat
    You have the correct tuners
    The pick up routing was for 3 singles

    Fender Strats are like the Harley-Davidson in motorcycles. People buy them cause they are easily DIY modded. So ya it is rare to find either in bone stock condition.

    Theres a shop near me that has a modded strat for cheap…I’d pick it up but I’m afraid it may not even be a fender body…without pulling it apart there would be no way of knowing…like you said…great stuff my man👍

    eBay Partscaster. Fifteen years ago so many people were modding/'upgrading' factory guitars with Warmoth or USACG parts and selling the original/replaced parts on eBay. Careful shoppers could snipe items and put together a 'full Fender' for less than buying one retail.

  • @DanielBobke
    @DanielBobke 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    While I could imagine that the factory could have put an old neck on the body....the fact that the pickguard is that many years newer leads me to believe that it is a partscaster made of Fender USA parts. I highly doubt anyone at the factory did this.

    Buying a new Fender is a problem nowadays lol. I went out for a Jazz bass maybe a month ago Here's my findings from several stores in my country: All the Performer and Professional II are complete shit in quality. I'll try to list everything I took a photo of.
    1. Neck joint is trash. There is a lot of gap between the body and the neck
    2. Nut work is trash. It doesn't sit flushed with the fretboard. With some gaps too. Not smoothed out and scratchy
    3. Paint is subpar. Lots of runovers in the edges. For neck finish, the run over in the edge isn't even consistent and strait.
    4. Fretboard tool markings - looks like damaged boards.
    These are US models across 2-3 stores. It felt like I was looking at Squiers. I just went with an ESP bass. Complete opposite of what I just listed.

    I think you're thinking of the 101. Highway 1 is also known as Woodward Ave here in Detroit baby. 1st highway in the USA

    The Highway Ones were not finished with Nitrocellulose. This is a common misconception. They were finished in a Polyurethane Lacquer. This finish was meant to mimic an aged Nitro finish. The finish will buff out to a shine.

      It because there's so many hundreds of thousands of hobby bedroom "players" that aren't players at all, they're bored collectors and non players watching videos and wanting new guitars and buying them and arguing on forums n such, so everyone of their guitars is basically brand new and never touched, as they don't actually play... They research about new pickups and needing locking gotoh style tuners for tuning stability, and a bone nut for sustain. They can't actually play, but they know they need brass saddles for that "zingy" "earthy" "Woody" high end that "cuts through the mix". They can't play but they know they need Seymour Duncan X pickups so when they imagine themselves playing rhythm it'll sound good. That's why there are literally.millions of guitars that are essentially brand new,.maybe a handful of hours of play on them, but they're sitting in a mans bedroom or closet not being touched cuz they're watching guitar TH-cam. This exact reason is why guitar is the top selling instrument, yet it doesn't rule the proverbial airwaves anymore and there are no guitar heroes anymore. Jimmy Page,clapton,Hendrix, gilmour etc, never said their strings where dead, or that their fretboard needed a drink. It's time for guitarists to get their heads out of their asses. Go write a timeless riff for fuhksake

    Sounds like you got a better deal with the fender american pichguard and pickups the jumbo frets are a plus possible american fender body it's better than the Mexican one.

  • @MarkTurner-vs7uc
    @MarkTurner-vs7uc 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Forget the highway one. Forget all the budget stuff. Get a 90s standard or plus . Good ones are available at Mexican prices or lower. Then you have a super high quality guitar that is very versatile and will last forever. It also stays in tune and is nearly unbreakable. I have seen them for around 800 bucks..

    I think it's factory. I've seen a few of these in the uk. Where popular here. They had American parts but assembled in Mexico I believe. I've seen a few with parts from highway one and American special markings so I think they just used what they had. Keep it cheap.

    Forget the name, but there's that online shop which has for many years sold parted out genuine Fender and Gibson guitars. It's responsible for probably thousand's of good quality 'one off' bitzers.

    Im just a bit confused here. You come across as knowing guitars so did you not try before you bought this? I mean seriously you seem so particular yet also upset you may be getting ripped off so why would you not play it and be more proactive before purchasing it? Youre a confusing guy to read. In the end you pretty much contradict yourself all over the place and in the end just state the obvious that anyone buying used guitar, but especially any used fender guitar, should know. Sorry dude but youre just stating the obvious here and not just about the guitar either. Time watching is time I'll never get back. Better luck next time i guess

      I did try it before I bought it. Like I said in the video, I even took it apart before I bought it. What was confusing was the neck pocket code and neck dates matched despite the serial not matching. This video was more about getting to the bottom of what this guitar was

      Oh, now I understand. You knew but wanted your audience base to know the process. Now I understand. Thank you for
      reaching out and clarifying that.
      I watch another video of yours where you picked up a red Jackson, Dinky at a pawn shop and you said something that caught my attention. You said you paid $50 Canadian for it. Are you located in Canada then? If so, where about? I’m in Ontario and I’m still awaiting such a great find like that. Any of my local pawn shops, and there’s not many where I live, want a small fortune for everything these days. Seems everyone thinks there old stuff is all “boutique” but it’s usually just old, not great stuff. I’m trying to teach myself the ways of guitar repair through videos and all self taught but I don’t really feel good about buying too high only to tear it apart if you know what I mean. That Jackson was a sweet score and one I’m still waiting to find a great deal like that. Any suggestions or connections you can advise would be greatly appreciated.
      Thanks for reaching out and clarifying this for me.
      Cheers
