As for Winter, she had horrible injuries caused by the crab trap entanglement. There was no way Winter would have survived since she was also only 2 months old when rescued. Again, there was NO MOM around on top of the devastating injuries that caused her tail to fall off. Putting her back in the ocean would have been the cruelest thing. I'm happy to hear she gets along very well with Hope. Dolphins need companionship just like people do. I'm also saddened by Panama's death. But Panama was around 40 years old and happy when she passed on of old age Sept. 2013. She was also a rescue because she was deaf and could not find fish anymore. She was found starving and stranded near a beach in 2001. God Bless the peope that rescue marine life and these 2 precious dolphins. A Dolphin Lover.
Guys, she's a rescue dolphin. I volunteer at CMA and she was found shortly after they finished making Dolphin Tale. Five years and one day after Winter in the same general area! Cool huh? Her mom died shorty after giving birth to her and I believe Hope beached herself. Once they are separated from thei pod, it is unlikely they will reunite and they cannot just join another one. They saved her life.
When a baby dolphin is rescued, it's because the MOM cannot be found. It takes about 2 years for MOM to teach baby how to survive in the ocean and to hunt food. If Hope was left out there with her dead MOM, she would have died some other way. She never got the chance to learn how to survive. As with "Winter", Hope is in a much better place. She has become Winter's tank companion, which dolphins need as well as people. Before commenting, please search the subject before judging. A Dolphin Lover.
she is adorable, and CMA have done an amazing job with her, when she came in she was in trouble and like winter she has put faith and hope in us humans ,great video
Hope would die if she was set out into the wild, she never learned how to take care of herself out in the wild, she was just a baby when they found her. And Winter would never survive in the wild either. Clearwater is an incredible place, they only keep the animals that can't be released back into the wild.
Dolphins that cannot be released into the wild cannot be kept in tanks, they need to be in an ocean seapens, where they can live in the ocean but still be cared for if needed.
8bennaboo You do know how expensive seaside sanctuaries are, right? That's what I would hope for animals in places like Miami Seaquarium or SeaWorld but CMA saves lives. They rescue, rehabilitate, and release and for non-release candidates, they give them amazing lives. Sea pens are outside their budget right now. Everyone is all so happy at CMA, just don't right now.
@@8bennaboo the pool that the dolphins are in have to be at least a certain size and the staff are trained on how to treat the animals correctly so in situations like this they should stay in the aquarium
@LitasBikinisMiami This aquarium is a Marine Animal Rescue Hospital. They rescue, rehabilitate and release marine animals. If these Dolphins that reside there could survive in the wild they would release them. Since the ones that live there would die in the wild, they have been given a home, given lots of attention, medical care, food, love and interaction.
@Sherlock Halfmutant Well, she's deaf. But they didn't know that until several year after they got her. But because of this, when she was in the wild, she couldn't echolocate to find fish. AND her teeth don't over lap. So she became very malnourished and begged for food. People don't really have common sense so they gave her like hamburgers and baitfish. So CMA rescued her in Panama and now she's on a diet! She's in her late 40s, I believe.
we just got back from florida; my daughter got to touch hopes nose..for 40 bucks! they call alot of the swimming they do "physical thearpy" for the dolphins; the trainers do swim with them also; they play with water hula-hoops they really interact alot with all of them. winter and panama {the other injured dolphin} can also put a long painbrush in their mouth as the trainers hold up white photo frames & the dolphins spin around & actually paint the frames its pretty neat to watch.
Winter can only have her prosthetic tale on for a could of hours a day, or else like any amputee, it would rub and cause major devastating irritation, this means that sadly, Winter would never be allowed to go back into the wild. But winter isn't the only one who physically cannot. Hope was only found a couple of months meaning that she had not been able the necessary life skills dolphins should know, e.g, like catching fish, swimming away from dangerous predators, because of this she would not be able to physically live in the wild, its awfully heartbreaking but Hope really doesn't know much about her old life in the Ocean, and she is more than content with her lifestyle.
@LitasBikinisMiami I understand your concerns. I don't work at the Aquarium. I was just there to visit. I don't know why they don't put "decorations" in the tank. Maybe Dolphins don't care about decorations (??), I don't know. I do know that they don't make money off of the animals. It's a non profit, rescue hospital. The money they make goes to feeding, care and medical treatment for the animals. They do give Hope lots of toys to play with. You should go to their website to learn more.
Hope was too cute and strong as a baby, now a beautiful young dolphin. Thank you for this video it reminds me when she was so small Thank you so much Annie
@dalekal - CMA DOES do an amazing job helping these poor dolphins when they rescue and rehabilitate them. Giving them a home when they are unable to survive in the wild and rehabilitating and releasing the ones that can survive on their own. They also help other sea creatures that go through their doors needing help like Sea Turtles, Otters and other sea life.
just returned from fl. we were there and there ARE other tanks you cant see it all on the video; that they can swim to & from; so shes not confined to just one tiny tank all the time.
@lilshamroc1 Clearwater Marine Aquarium got a call that a baby dolphin needed to be rescued. She was found trying to nurse from her mother who had died. She was 2 to 3 months of age at the time of her rescue and weighed only 58 pounds. She was brought to the aquarium and was given 24 hour care by staff and volunteers and was fed every two hours. Now she's very healthy and is given lots of love and attention. They have lots of toys for her to play with and she seems very happy.
You're exactly right. Fish, like any caged animal (hamsters, rats, etc.) need things to keep them engaged and stimulated. That can include varying diets, re-arranging substrate, hiding food, or certain 'toys', but they aren't too concerned about how pretty the habitat is... The main reason people suggest 'decorations' in an aquarium is to allow small fish to hide and not be stressed. Dolphins are not small aquarium fish that need to hide to not be stressed!
@quelita28 - I have watched Hope on the webcam at the CMA website and I see that she has lots of different toys they give her to play with. It's cute to watch her playing with 'em. Sadly, I read on the CMA website that Indy passed away in March 2011.
she is so beautifull and she is with winter they are very social creatures and once humans enter act with them and that bond is created its hard to return them to the wild and yeah at least shes here and not at seaworld
The dolphins at this aquarium are all rescues. Putting 'decorations' in their tanks may affect their health since they haven't been bred around them. It's for their own safety really.
The clearwater marine aquarium that saved this dolphin is a non-profit organization that is focused on rescue, rehabilitation, & release of marine animals. They have permanent residents that are not fit for release, 4 dolphins saved in critical condition. Any profits from admission go to the animals & education. Comparing this to the Cove is ignorant in the belief that there is no ethical way to captively keep dolphins. Learn some respect and spelling yourself before spouting your opinions.
The baby dolphin, Hope, is very playful and friendly. She reminds me of Misty’s sister, Violet, from Pokémon. She loves to play and swim in the water just like Hope. In fact, Violet can do water tricks in the water, especially swimming upside down as well as blowing bubbles. 🐬
No sir she was not. Winter has not had a calf yet. Winter is at Clear water Aquarium because she was recused after getting tangled in a crab trap. That is how she lost her tail.
@TheSnowyice - No it's not Indy, I read that Indy passed away in March 2011, before we were there visiting at the aquarium, when I took the video of Winter and of Hope. : (
She is very cute. I am glad the staff in the aquarium cares so much about her and didn't abandon her. Doesn't she play with toys? Whatever happened to Indy,is he well and still alive?
@LitasBikinisMiami Not sure why you ask why they make her work so much by watching this video. There was no one making her do anything that you see in this video. She was playing, swimming, jumping, putting her tail up in the air, all on her own.
People we get that they need to be back in the ocean but after they're rescued and we send them back in the ocean what if the animals get in the same Situation again? Or even worse and we aren't able to save them?
That is a risk all rehabbers take. We cant just keep all wild animals, least of all dolphins in captivity. the wild is a dangerous place, especially now thanks to humans, but we cant keep them imprisoned. We can only do our best to make it better for them in the wild.
If released to the ocean can not take care of herself. She was much too small. there is also a rehabilitation center, not the center of the dolphin show.

She is so silly. I'm glad they found her and she's living the good life. She's a total doll-phin.
