- We didn't know how far we were going to travel on this trip to Mindanao. But we ended up in Zamboanga, the furthest we've ever been in the Philippines from our home.

I met an American 20 years ago. He was a missionary and was destined in Zamboanga during that time. He fell in love to this place. He named his daughter Zamboanga.

Go all the way to zamboanga city.. The most highly urbanized among the 4 zamboangas.. Zamboanga city is a very diverse city, it's so fascinating being there because the culture feels like malaysia or indonesia, but you'll hear people speaking a spanish creole language and finally the food is so amazing, the best tasting cuisine out of all the places in the philippines that i've been to.
I agree that we have best tasting cuisine because of the different fusion of culture but Not sure if there are vegan food here.

I'd rather they stay away. Let's keep Zamboanga City for us Chavacanos. There are already too many Bisaya and Tausug residents! We are FAST LOSING OUR IDENTITY! There was a time during my grandfather's time when the whole Zamboanga peninsula was Chavacano. Now it's just Zamboanga City, & parts of Basilan!

you've gone so far already from eastern mindanao butuan, iligan, lanao, crossing the bay, then to northwestern dapitan, zambo north. there are nice places along way.

@@josephrobi6806 Chavacano is Spanish creole, it is very different from Spanish in many ways and is certainly grammatically more akin to other Filipino languages than Spanish. However it has Spanish as a basis for much of its vocabulary.
@@josephrobi6806 it's called "chavacano" if you are mexican, it's not a fruit!! if you are spanish -- it will sound chabacano but it's a complete language... hence it's a spanish-creole language.. my understanding is, it's the only Philippine language that doesn't have some kind of Austronesian label. You can't really call it spanish, because one of the notables in chavacano is we don't use conjugations and also.. mixed with local Filipino languages..

What a lovely trip, exploring Mindanao. Story so so lucky traveling around Mindanao which for me stuck in the cold UK. Can't wait to go home in Cagayan de Oro. You're near now to my hometown Dipolog City, Zamboanga del norte. I think 15 to 20 minutes drive from Dapitan to Dipolog.
Zamboanga does'nt get hit by typhoons, that's why the nature there stays beautiful and intact.

Thats a fact, i used to live there, we can feel the storm but not as catastrophic as other places . Coz this Zamboanga peninsula is behind that huge mountain in Negros..

But the fruits and the flowers sold in Zamboanga come from the provinces were typhoons are common.

Next to Dapitan is Dipolog City, my hometown. It is the capital city of Zamboanga del Norte. It is famous for Spanish Sardines and pandesal.

It's good to see the Fam touring around Mindanao. A lot of people, especially in Luzon, are afraid of coming here to Mindanao because of all the bad news. Mindanao is so overrated. Zamboanga is very rich in culture. I hope you guys had an amazing time touring around Zamboanga.

In Zamboanga City, you can see the Sta. Cruz island which is white sand from afar but actually pinkish if you are in the island. The city is also famous for the barter trade where you can buy batik clothing at bargain prices.
You might want to add Camiguin Island in your travel list ☺ *must see*

By the way Zamboanga is the only Province in the Philippines that uses “chavacano” as their official dialect…. its a colloquial Spanish.
Please visit the Rizal museum in Dapitan, and the various sardines factories in Dipolog City…

As a native Chavacano, I can say that all 3 provinces, Del Norte, Del Sur, & Sibugay are Bisaya speakers. Only Zamboanga City remaines Chavacano. If you are not a Chavacano or not even a Zamboangeño, don't talk about things you don't know. If you are a Chavacano born & bred like me, know our current situation before talking.

Dapitan is where our National Hero, Jose Rizal, got exiled. He fell in love with the place. He even practiced his medicine expertise in Dapitan.
Poppy is a happy and healthy dog now. She's loved.
Zamboanga City is my birthplace, I was born in there, I do miss my hometown. Currently living in Cebu City and I grow up here
Nice you are now in Zamboanga, just be extra careful in venturing other places there for not are all safe for foreigners. Terrorists are desperate and losing these days ‘cause the military is hunting them down trying to close and end the conflict. From the news the other day in Surigao del Sur, NPA bandits closed a road identified themselves as military and harassed the people there. Good thing they were caught during a firefight and some died etc. You are obviously a target esp. with no military escorts roaming around in public areas. Doesn’t matter if Junjun is with you, these terrorists don’t follow anything and are heartless. Better coordinate with the local officials there if you want a proper tour of the place and see culture. That’s what Becoming Filipino Kulas did when he went to Zamboanga and Cotabato, always with a military escort and a local guide. Be safe always. Hope you read comments also …..

Why don't you go to Dipolog City for a few days you visit some places of Dipolog to Dapitan next of Dipolog the home Jose Rizal Phils heroes. The get the ferry going dumaguete city then Back siargao..

Wow! When you can reach Isabela City in Basilan, you can witness for yourself so cheap fresh fish..I have gone there! but am in Pagadian City Zamboanga del Sur. Try to visit Dapitan where our National hero was exiled there and go further to Dakak for a beach tour!..Zamboanga del Norte..God bless...Keep safe always.

If you go all the way to Zamboanga City.. I recommend. you all to visit National Museum in Pilar. You will learn so much the rich culture of Zamboanga. There is a Landaka Hotel.. across Lantaka Hotel there is an island there that has a pink sand.
i dont advice foriegners going to zamboanga, i still remember those kidnappings of foriegners done by abusayaf!!!

Eight miles fam you try to visit Dakak Beach Resort it's in Dapitan also and if you're going to visit Dipolog please visit the longest boulevard in the Philippines.

Kulas of Becoming Filipino vlog went as far as Zamboanga City and Basilan. Perhaps only him has covered the entire Mindanao in his exploration. But in some areas like Basilan he was given military and police escorts though he never asked for them. Palawan is no longer the last frontier, it's Mindanao.

Were in zamboanga you're at? Hope you go to zamboanga city, it is the only city that speaks in Spanish creole. And zamboanga isn't hit by typhoons. But the are times terrorists try to infiltrate but since most of the army guards every corner of zamboanga infiltration are lesser almost to none, Just be vigilant.
