  • Please read before watching. Also, don't wear headphones while watching this, or if you are... don't leave the volume too high.
    SYNOPSIS: In the Spring of 1913, the Central and Northeastern United States was hit by several days of rain. Coupled with heavy runoff from melting of snow from heavy winter storms that year, it created an unprecedented disaster over a wide area that no one had seen previously. Although we have access to newer flood control techniques to stop flooding than Americans had in 1913, recent failures like the 2011 Mississippi River floods suggest that if a similar scenario were to occur in a more localized area, then disaster would be almost inevitable.
    This scenario, while it occurs exclusively in the Mohawk and Hudson River Valleys, also includes a short stint where the event is viewed from outside the area, such as Durham, NC.
    As always, criticism is welcome, and it is needed for further improvement.
    This scenario was requested by Pancake Killer.
    Please note that none of this is actually occurring. There is no reason to panic. If you choose to use this video as a prank, you do so at your own risk. I hold no responsibility for your actions. I should also note that my usage of commercials prior to the EAS Alert are protected by the Copyright Act of 1976.
    At one point in the video, the geopolitical organization Strategic Sentinel is referenced in the news ticker in one of the news section. The news section that references this only shows things that are hypothetical and at no time did the organization or persons involved say this.

      jayfeather31 I was listening to this without headphones. When the sounds the precede the messages in the EAS messages played, my dog hid under my bed. It seems that since the EAS tends to activate for Severe Thunderstorm warnings, he’s learned to associate the sounds they make with imminent thunderstorms. He’s a smart dog, but a goofball for sure.

    Unrealistic. Tom voice isn't used in 2019, its Paul. Plus the EASyPLUS screen is inaccurate, they don't even use that in 2019 anymore.
    Update: See this was made in 2018, but wasn't Tom replaced in like 2017 or 2016? Also a bunch of outdated screens they don't use anymore.

    • @jayfeather31
      @jayfeather31  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The entire thing takes place in an alternate timeline where one of the POD (points of divergence) was that Tom wasn't replaced, among other things.
      Additionally, the lack of EASyPLUS is a product of using a teletype based system wherein you'd see Sydnie being used.

    Three notes on this video as someone who actually lives in Albany, NY :
    1. Just the right amount of scary. As if I was having an actual emergency without having one.
    2. Good job on correctly spelling Schenectady. I live in the area, see the name a billion times a week and I still can't spell it right without spell check.
    3. Just a correction because you probably just wikied the area and have no actual knowledge of NY's Capital Region as a resident. But almost all local stations identify the coverage area as Albany, Albany region, or Capital region. Only during station ID will they mention the actual broadcast location. So, WRGB-6 Schenectady (CBS) should have had a bug identifying the station as Albany, NY in origin. None of the TV stations with major network affiliation identify as Schenectady's news station on air.

    • @jayfeather31
      @jayfeather31  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The two can end up being paired together, as severe thunderstorms can have a great deal of torrential rainfall, which then triggers the flood or flash flood warnings.

    • @riinak7212
      @riinak7212 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jayfeather31 That's true, but usually severe thunderstorms cause flooding when they rain themselves out in this area of the woods, and if you're thinking of a long-term flood event, and a stalled low-pressure system, it'd probably be like rain with embedded heavier showers training over the same area over and over, and if it's over a valley, that water eventually has to go into rivers which will crest high downstream, even if no rain ever falls there. But I get what you're going for, though I don't think I've ever heard of a severe thunderstorm watch being issued for that long of a time. :) (I'm a weather historian and have a thing for alternate history as well - do you have a timeline for all these videos you've produced?
