- Considered unbeatable for 24 years, this is the story of quake's most unlikely speedrun.
Chambers: @Chamburs
Huge thanks to Matt from @MattsRamblings for making the multi-ghost demo possible. His channel has some of the best Quake (and other!) content on TH-cam.

This was absolutely amazing. The music, editing, commentary and cinematics.. just perfection. This is certainly one of the greatest moments of my Quake career, and a memory I will cherish for the rest of my days. Thank you so much, Connor. ❤
👏👏👏
well done :)
Hello you absolute legend.
Congrats on the achievement, mate!
Thank YOU Chambers, you beautiful bastard.
Man, the wife% run was so wholesome.
can i have my tea now?
I can do better at Quake by shaking my weewee
The serotonin went crazy for it but I just might be lonely lol
can YOU do a wife%? didn't think so, random youtube user.
@@KoopstaKlicca Jung talked a lot about E2M1. Did you clean your room?
I was distracted by the Grunt fighting the Rottweiler and missed the record. Can he redo the run?
@@AndreiBYhappy Imagine being stupid enough to perform speedruns on remote server.
Lmao man im dead💀
I liked how the kill count went from 0/46 to 2/70 after the level was already finished. Back then games were more alive and unrestricted.
More astonishing, he make the whole run in 7 jumps. that's kinda wild.
Love you man, top 3 channel for me.
As someone who knows nothing about Quake speedrunning, you absolutly made me feel the weight of this accomplishment. Great job!
I cannot believe how high quality this video is. This was a pleasure to watch
Mad respect to your wife for becoming a speed runner for tea.
Britons of both genders will surmount any and all obstacles for that H O T L E A F W A T E R.
This is mind blowing in every sense: the record itself, the history, the narration, the recams, the music...!
And at the end you realize the vast majority of competitors jumped on the wrong side of that gap for years.
This video truly deserve Karl Jobst grade view counts!
I got the impression they kind of did have the right spot for their momentum and speed. It was a pretty direct route and the jump just makes it. With the extra speed boost however, the 2nd window long jump pays off. He has enough boost where he needs to start early and air strafe to avoid hitting walls/ceiling.
Majority of competitors didnt use grunt boost and head bump, they had different angle and speed.
Don't even compare this video to Karl Noobst's.
This is presented in a league of its own. All Karl is good at is to, for no reason at all, slander people who are better gamers than him, such as legendary arcade gaming world champions. Karl is a jealous guy and I rate all his videos DOWN UNDER acceptable, just like his country of origin! It used to be an old prison colony so it is fitting that Karl the Unjust and Criminal is from there. It is no coincidence and surprise that he is getting sued all the time (rightfully so).
@@SoyAntonioGamingSurely this comment is satire.
3:09 shoutout to Markus Taipale. it's actually insane how good he was for the time. There's a reason that he has the records for basically all the most difficult levels in qdqwav, including literally all of E4. He's my favorite Quake speedrunner ever.
Yeah Markus was ahead of his time!
IMO Attila's run would have been below 7 seconds (or at least very close to) if they'd done it a little more like Markus's run, couple of bits the angle wasn't quite clean especially the last hop to the exit portal.
The way Chambers gracefully sails through the air in slow motion, together with the music, is beautiful to see! Especially with all the other speedrunners trailing behind at the end!
The suspense! The 20 sec wife run :D The horde :DDD Beautiful video man
I think the music really takes this video to the next level. It isn't just the speedrunner but how well it was all captured
what is the name?
It sounds like it's from Rimworld maybe

Hi everyone, thanks for the nice comments about the music. We've put the track on youtube here for now: th-cam.com/video/n7r8Y3T6quA/w-d-xo.html Streaming platforms etc coming soon ❤
This is the perfect speedrun video, you deserve the audience of the big time channels. It is the perfect length, with just the right amount of information and context to drive home the weight of the record without boring the audience. The tone both vocally and musically are fantastic, relaxed yet awe inspiring.
If anyone else made this video it would be 45 minutes long, explaining the back story of every runner who has held the record for 27 years, over explaining game mechanics, etc.
Great job, fastest subscribe of my life.
Man I remember back in the 90s when people were grinding for 7 seconds, I never got close myself. Six seconds is just spectacular.
Right?! I think I got 9 seconds, maybe 8 but that would have been after the record dropped even lower
LOVED this so much - the ending was, beautiful 😭
I'm glad Quake is getting some what of a revival. Been playing Quake Live since it's release
Great video. I'm not a Quake speedrunner at all, never paid attention to it at all, but this came across my feed and it's just... Idk, very soothing and low key in a way that I wish TH-cam promoted more of. The narration and music are great. The methodical explanation of the progression of the runs is also very interesting!
I've tried to find the song used here on the Lords of Lounge pages, but no luck. Is that one you commissioned, maybe?
Thanks a lot! The song hasn't been released just yet. Coming soon... :)
@@quakespeedrunsexplained Having now heard the song over the LoL page...I get it now, you cheeky monkey
This video is a master class on video editing and story telling. Honestly haven't been gripped by a Quake video like this. Amazing work. Thanks for giving this niche such reverence with your videos.
To this day I've never played an FPS with better movement than Quake
chambers is so fucking underrated. 300 subs? bro what he deserves millions for what hes done with the quake community. love u bro
Never played quake or watch quake speed runs. I watched this whole video because it was so well made that it kept me interesting without having any context.
Suggesting this video for me is TH-cam's algorithm's finest hour. Awesome video; awesome channel. To add to the others who have quite rightly commented on the quality of production on this - it is nothing short of fantastic. Great job all round!
Dude your channel is gonna blow up. This quality of video is way beyond the norm for 1k subs. Keep up the great work!
Your voice is perfect for this, kind of calming actually.
The last scene with the layered records all racing to the final sprint really drove home the record. .002 seconds isn't a lot, but it's everything. And seeing that final red guy a whole character length ahead of #2, well, that shows the time for as large as it is. Incredible stuff all around ggs
Great to be part of it and ofcourse all Quake Games! :) - matr0xpl from Poland! :] Greetings!
I've never been interested in Quake speedruns, but I like your storytelling so much, I watched the whole thing. Great job!
Even my run got shown! Thank you for the great video, Connor! A pleasure to watch, as always!
I have to say your production quality has improved so much over the last year. Cool title cards, freecams, way beter script reading, even music now? Love your content, keep it up!
Great video! Editing, music, all top notch.
I miss seeing the classic grunts they look real good quality now in this video makes me want to play
Such an excellent video on such a niche topic. Well done mate
TH-cam reccommended me this vid, glad it did cause its wonderfully put together and well presented. Great job
Jeeeesus, You make such a fantastic content about Q1. Wish this game was more popular on YT becasue of how groundbreaking it was.
For a person who has not played Quake since it came out, you made a video about Quake look beautiful! Brilliant video!
Goodness, the sounds and images of this game bring back such fond memories of simpler times. I'm so happy to see folks are still pushing the envelope on speedrunning this game. Magnificent commentary. That footage of all the runs was excellent hah!
Amazing record and fantastic video. The final shot, the whole history of the run trailing behind them is so powerful. And, see how far ahead they are of the previous record at the end, really makes the .002 seconds feel like a huge leap. Great job!
Amazing video, and even more amazing run! Thank you for keeping the Quake scene relevant! Best fps to date!
Really cool video! I especially like the perspective the final clip gives, and how large the gap between runs look then (slowed down, of course). First video I've seen from your channel, , but I really like the calm narration and deep insight, definitely a subscription from me!
Found your channel some days ago, and I'm watching all your videos. The format, voice and presentation is impeccable, keep it up
I have nothing new to ad, but I couldn't not say it: a beautiful video and an incredible achievement. Thank you, both.
Nothing beats Quake movement in an FPS. Butter.
Agreed!! 😀
Facts, still the gold standard for FPS speedrunning IMHO
Amazing video! Super captivating and extremely well done. Thank you for sharing this man!
Both impressive.
Record runs and Your video.
Great job!
Simply one of the best videos I have ever seen on this platform
Best video yet mate - please keep it up. I missed you when you were gone!
If only people put so much effort into something that's actually useful.
I am really hoping that you are branching out and making more videos. That was a wonderful documentary and I was amazed to see that such a small channel was able to pull something like this off
Love, the music, editing and voice!
This is so well made. Really. The captivating intro with all the player models. And then how you bring back the same clip at the end. Bravo
We need more of this compilations of different runs in one video
Im so happy that I have found your channel . Great content ,wish you all the best.
Ty algo for suggesting this to me. You're gonna blow up, this video, especially the intro is surreal, beautiful and captivating. Your'e gonna go far.
I just found this, this is beautiful man. I love quake and ive never seen anything like this before. Keep it up, you got a sub
This is art!
I remember perfectly years ago me doing this jump and finishing this map in 15 seconds, I was SO happy
Love seeing this and finding out the community is still active. I was around in the late 90's, at the time had a few records, but only one still stands and probably the only reason is no one else has gotten to it yet lol. Can't believe I hadn't seen this channel before! Thanks for making all these videos. Time to speed run watching them :)
great video, grew up on quake and Quake LANs ( professional and at home stuff ) with Quake was a staple of my childhood in the best way possible
keep up the great work!
This is top-tier speedrunning quality - the editing, narration, music. Please expand to more than just quake! The world needs you
Thanks. For now Quake is the only game where I know what I'm talking about 😄
@@quakespeedrunsexplained fair! We'll happily take what we can get 😁.
Fantastic video all around. Good writing is like good UI - most only notice when it's bad. Good job on good writing.
Just found your channel and I absolutely love it. Quake speed runs have always been my favourite. Looking forward to future videos'!!!
I find it most amazing that you can genuinely SEE the difference and the higher speed in the :06. It's visibly faster around the ledge jump and onward with the built up speed from bunny hopping.
Wow, without properly done documentaries like this, most people would never be able to appreciate how much perseverance this takes!
Great job on the video! I know nothing of history of Quake speedruns and this made me realize, or more like feel, how big of an achievement this speedrun is. Very enjoyable!
Incredible. From someone who played Quake as a kid when it first came out you got yourself a sub :) Keep up the great work!
Love your breakdowns, thank you! I can only imagine how happy he must’ve felt when he finally saw that 6 seconds on the final screen.
What an amazing video, thank you for making this.
Outstanding commentary! This was really entertaining to watch, thank you for making this video.
11:16 poor dog, he just wanted to play!
Amazing video! This deserves at least a million views!
This clip is perfection of montage, music, tension .. EVERYTHING!!! Or you working in movie industry or you SHOULD work in it.
This game STILL feels new to me and I remember waiting for it and waiting for it and it coming out and getting it for Christmas 1996 (still have my original fucking box and CD-ROM) and FINALLY being able to play it in Jan 1997 on our new Pentium 133. There is nothing else like this game. Then in the fall of 1997 my brother somehow got a dialup program to work in DOS and we got to play on the deathmatch servers and HOLY CHRIST it was LEGENDARY. I remember the massive improvement we got from going to a 28.8 modem to a 56k modem. Server IP addresses were gotten through the in game chat and we had the IP addresses on yellow post-it notes stuck to the housing of the CRT monitor. There is so much that is unexplained in Quake but it just makes sense. This video brought me back in time and a lot of memories hit me.
You were a HPB? =P
@@MichaelPohoreski On the 28.8 modem yes. After getting the 56k modem it was funny to see the others with high ping get stuck in corners or get stuck hanging on the ceilings on the servers with grappling hooks. Those were easy kills. Chat was full of complaining of ping.
What an incredible acomplishment. I love speed runs like this.
You know a game its a masterpiece when you find this kind of content. Its like a... Legacy.
A wonderful explainer video about a niche subject, done with great care and attension.
You explain things very well, the music and the visuals heighten it so nicely too. An intresting and enjoyable watch. Thank you for your time!
Great video. I love seeing small obscure communities live on like this, what a fantastic run
Wow dude, this is kino, send this video to Cannes
Awesome video! By the way, I love speedruns that are faster on harder levels because of the strategy involving enemies or something else caused by the difficulty settings. GG!
Wow...that 'successful run vs the competition' was insane at the end. Amazing
i really really love this channel. it is needed and good! ever since i saw QDQ i have never played the game the same way.
Great editing, writing, and music choice. Well done.
Did anyone else immediately load up Quake to try this after watching the video? I was really pleased when I managed a run below 11 seconds. Not sure I'll be breaking any speedrunning records any time soon!
I'm amazed that in the final shot, he's ahead immediately from the little bump on the corner. Like it was meant to be the 6 second run.
no, there’s just something in my eye
Awesome video! Great job capturing it
Such a well made video. Beautiful.
Great video, great explanation of an astonishing run. Thank you. Have a sub. :)
please please make more commentary videos just like this and just this long
For anyone interested the music is “Pixel perfect” by Lords of Lounge. Stunning.
We need wife any% speedrun xD
I really love the inclusion of the slow-mo footage, so we can better appreciate the immaculate control of really fine movements that speedrunning requires.
P.S. I always kept expecting the Enforcer's first laser to hit the player from behind, providing another boost. How stylish would that have been! 😄
Your voice is so relaxing and at the same time the video is informative. Luv it 💕
This video itself is amazing! Thank you
"This kid pushes from ivy, out middle, through our connector like a SPEED DEMON!" 💀
2:55 that is sooo satisfying to see people discover airstrafing in „real time“
i agree! :)
@@lilthreadd hey great running into you, g :)
@@azumanguy yea, it was a pleasant surprise stumbling upon your comment man :D
this channel is a hidden gem, there isn't nearly enough speedrun content on youtube to quench my thirst
That intro is one of the cleanest edits ive ever seen, masterful work!
Well done. And I remember seeing a 7+ second run the first time, my jaw hit the floor. Incredible to see that now officially at 6+.
That last shot of all the runs together is so perfect! Everything falls on a bell curve and that is a perfect illustration!
And if you want to get existential dready about it... so does your life! Your life falls somewhere in that last shot too, metaphorically speaking. So, where do you think your life is if it was in that race?
Great storytelling, well done.
Wow! I am currently on vacations far from where I live, and here at night I stumble across this!! What an amazing video my friend, you explain it so clearly that even a non-Quake player would *almost* understand how truly remarkable this run is. 😊 I remember back in the day I could get 7 at will, but there would be days when it felt hard to do... was always inconsistent here. I used to think of the ER of this map as having two variants: "the Fab way" (one continuous sequence) and "the Markus way" (one bunny, walk a bit, then one sequence). With the Fab way I always gained more speed and ended up hitting my head on that ledge after crossing the gap. So I'd stick to the Markus way if I wanted 7s, even though one sequence looked much cooler 😂 these guys of recent years move so smoothly and gain so much speed, I truly am kindof jealous and wish I could have learnt to play like that when I was still playing. Congrats to Chambers, he truly is amazing. 👏
And while I'm talking about this I am kindof sad to see there is no entry of mine from back in the day in that list!? Hard to believe I never submitted a 7. Not that it matters now (in fact it would look mediocre compared to today's players), but it would've been nice to know that one of the players in that final clip was me, far behind the leaders of course 😅😅
congrats to 10000 subs!!!! keep up the good work!
Underrated content creator :)) you have my praises and support :)
I just love this kind of subcultures around games. And it's cool that Finnish guys Jussi and Markus are mentioned.
