Well done! There are a few items worth noting that will help make certain processes safer and/or happier for the dwarves. For example, fisherdwarves can be kept "safe" from the rain by building them a covered fishing zone over the appropriate pond or river. To make this even safer, you can either include a hatch-covered stairway leading to the rest of the fort or build an "underground tidepool" that feeds from the river or a flooded area of the cavern. Similarly, you can create a "dwarven greenhouse" by channeling a pit into the dirt, creating a plot for your above-ground plants in the pit, and then building a floor over them. Those areas remain "outdoors" and still get sunlight. (I use a similar trick for my cooking/butchering/tannery area since when rotting goods are 'outdoors,' they do not generate miasma... but that should be part of your waste management video.)
Nice guide :D One thing I've really been enjoying with DF is that hunger doesn't seem to be an issue at all once you setup a farm. I was worried DF would constantly be a struggle to feed dwarves while also trying to slowly expand. Really glad that it puts more emphasis on everything else.
I'm so glad the graphics overhaul happened, along with all these helpful tutorials that followed. I knew when I first saw the game 10 years ago as a kid, that I would play and love it someday. A decade later and I was spot on. Once I'm at a competent level I'd love to go back and play the original too. Also thank you for the tutorial 💯

12:54 Oh my. That can lead to some serious issues... never ever allow your dwaves to collect directly from your trees. Or you will end up with some dead bodies in the trees. They have this insae habbit of stealing that ladder used to climb, hence not allowing the in tree dwarf to get down. Best habbit in my opinion is to set "gather fallen fruits only" from trees. As far as bushes go, do as you please. Anyway, nice work, I was just checking by your work, and it's good quality. Keep working hard, and stay safe.

However, if there is someone who is set on using stepladders, they can do a couple of things to ensure the stepladder won't be taken away. 1) Forbid the stepladder once a dwarf carries it under a fruit tree to gather fruit or 2) Make a 1x1 stockpile under a fruit tree for stepladders only and then forbid the stapladder from being taken. 1) Guarantees the stepladder is in a correct position to climb the tree but 2) requires less dwarf baby sitting.

Can you hunt flying birds like eagles and ravens with the crossbow? My guy has a crossbow in his hand and access to bolts (I"m not sure how he arms himself with the bolts). Crap. I need a quiver. feels bakcwards that cave plants are seasonal and above ground is year round... like, in the cave, the changing of the weather wouldnt affect much, id imagine? temp doesnt change much and all that... but above ground if its snowing and the ground is covered...cant really grow much can you?
i have a hunter dwarf and some capybaras in my area but he wont hunt them no matter what i try. he has ammo and a crossbow and his only job is set to hunt, but he still wont go. is it just bugged?

o r o - in the original. Create refuse pile the allows corpses only, the o r o allows the dwarves to "collect refuse from outside" - not sure on the new hotkeys yet for it. Once the carcass is close to the butchers, it'll auto-queue a job for it.

It may be an unintended bug, but I've had caged wild unicorns breed while being next to each other in cages. No restraints or pasture

Sometimes, the processing of fish is part of a fisher dwarfs job but they sometimes decide to just keep fishing.

No since they need these to carry ammo, I would recommend making a butcher, tanner and leather workshop and butcher a animal that you took with you

You can forbid the eggs inside a nest box with the lock icon--dwarves let those hatch.
This would mean manual checking of the boxes but does indeed work aswell
