I love how it has become a ‘tradition’ for Stephen to do an improv song during the painting segment of colosseum instead of the hiker dance. He’s really good at song improv.
This was really great. I sometimes think some of the donation incentives on Colosseum are misjudged because they can actually disrupt the action to the point it becomes unenjoyable, but they were balanced exactly right for this segment - the donors got to torment Stephen but it never felt like he wasn't making progress and (largely thanks to Mal) they actually ended up with a halfway decent looking painting at the end.
As Josh explains at the end of this year’s event, a lot of the requests (namely rotating the canvas) tend to wind up cancelling each other out, and they want time to give Artist Georg (whichever of the two is painting) time to paint with the mystery item and/or a requested color, so he had to pick and choose which incentives to read and when. It means that not everyone will have their donations read aloud (already a tall task with how many people donate in these segments; Emile’s got a couple funny stories about that in that same ending) and have what they’re donating for done, but Josh felt that swamping the artist with so many requests at once wouldn’t be very entertaining and likely lead to the painting being unfinished, so sacrifices had to be made.

Personally I think the blood, fire, and Meteor are what give the painting its identity. You can just feel the chaotic aura it exudes. Also RIP Stephen's Coke can.

Ah yes, the creation of the piece "Onett: The Victory of Giygas" by Stephen Georg and Mallory Georg. A beautiful piece. Oh lord was this great to see live, all the chaos, spinning, and Mal getting a sponge in Stephen's coke. It was glorious
Imo one of the positives to come out of having a remote Colosseum is segments like this one. I hope they bring it back when they start to do these in person again. Also the Jepsons + the Grandparents is always a great combo :)
If the venue is close enough, that would make it more feasible, especially if they didn’t have to move any of Mal’s supplies and instead just shoot it from this very studio.
In which Grandpa Georg paints us a picture of Earthbound’s Onett with a little help from Grandma and Kepler and some heckling from his grandson and his wife. Unlike Jepson though, Grandpa went to art school so this should be a piece of cake...right?
Unfortunately, I was only able to watch about a half hour of this segment live before I had to take a break with a bad headache. I ended up taking a short nap that turned into a 5 hour nap causing me to miss the next few segments as well. My sleep schedule was rather messy that weekend. Anyway, this was easily one of the best segments this year. Between the fires breaking out over Onett, the "pocket friend" comment, the coke can incident and all the blindfolded shenanigans (and many other things), it was great fun watching the VoD at the first opportunity I got. Also, I'd like to say that the polls that showed people were a lot more willing to trust Mal than Stephen is very accurate to how their Breath of the Wild streams have gone. EDIT: I forgot to add that it would be great to see this segment return at an in person Colosseum with multiple people having to do the painting, taking it in turns as donations come in.
#TrustMal I'd also love to see this in an in-person Colosseum! Probably hard to arrange, though. Maybe if they do it in Myrtle Beach again? Even then, they'd have to either stream just that one session from Stephen and Mal's house or bring all of Mal's stuff to the Colo house, and I imagine either one would be somewhat annoying.

My ABSOLUTE favorite segment. Laughing for 90 minutes straight hurts my whole body XD But, the final piece actually does looks super amazing, in a chaotic good sorta way
Oh man I was really looking forward to this one. The chaos that ensued from everything is exactly what I was expecting and it's super fun - the incentives were really well-chosen to cause exactly as much chaos as is enjoyable, not too much and not too little. It's honestly pretty similar in vibe to those random requests music segment from Colosseum 2019, which was my favorite segment of that year. I also just really love the juxtaposition between Mal serious-to-the-point-of-teasing and Stephen's "I have no idea what I'm doing" attitudes. And like with Josh's piece from last year, the end result is honestly pretty good, all things considered. Would definitely love more of this, even (and especially) when Colosseum can be held live again - maybe we can get more hotseat painting like that.
