Beth Hood is a legend. One of the most beautiful women to ever step foot on the Miss USA stage. She should've won that day. Michigan was also quite pretty, so was Texas. The problem with Texas was that she was way too short and she would've been eaten alive by that strong Miss Universe 2003 batch.
Looking back now, I think the top 5 was actually quite beautiful. It’s just that Miss USA contestants don’t really have proper training for Miss Universe and they are pretty much on their own until Crystle Stewart took over in 2021! I think Alabama and TN were more beautiful than MA and may have cracked top 10 if they competed in Panama. However, the 2003 Miss Universe batch was quite strong and I don’t see any of them winning Amelia Vega that year. Maybe top 5 placement but hard to win Amelia.
The real winner that year Miss USA was Miss Tennessee - Beth Hood, she could have placed easily in the Top 5 at Miss Universe 2003 or even challenging Amelia Vega.
Many people consider her to be stunning and would’ve did really well at Miss Universe. I think her personality and Q&A costed her the win. But, facially wise, she is beautiful.

This was the first Miss USA I have ever watched. I remember rooting for MI that night. I was also rooting for IN and HI. My aunts got MA right. I remember everyone at home being so enthralled with Susie. The contestant I won't forget the most though was WI. I remember I was like WHAAAT?! (people this was 2003!) But she would have slayed if she competed now
I get a Miss Congeniality (the movie) vibe during the river part of the opening. I guess because the pageant in that movie also took place in San Antonio. I think San Antonio could potentially be a good Miss Universe host one day.
I met the winner of this pageant, Susie Castillo, at TRL when she was a host on there soon after she gave up her crown. She wasn’t very nice at all, only when the cameras came on did she turn it on. Confirmed to me that Alabama or Tennessee should have won this pageant.
Beth Hood is gorgeous, has an amazing body and graceful walk (not that robotic walk many american contestants have). She and Shandi Finnessey would have been the best back-to-back ever.
and please, they should bring the swimsuit and evening gown segment without any annoying commentators talking... we should just focus on the contestants during the show.. after all, we as audiences, we can see everything by ourselves, there is no need for the commentators to say anything further.. we are not blind!

Loved the production and presentation of the pageant in 2003. It was the start of the NBC era for MUO.
NBC era was cool, But I prefer the CBS era more.
