Let me start with I love their music, especially that first album and Burgers. However, one of the worst concerts I ever saw was Hot Tuna in New York City in the late 1970s. They were over an hour late. They got on stage and started insulting New York and New Yorkers, then turned up their sound so loud my buddy and I beat a retreat to the back. They clearly disrespected their fans and that is a sell out.
Loved these guys ever since Surrealistic Pillow came out in '67. It was a huge hit, with the acid queen herself out front. These two still doin it FIFTY-FIVE YEARS LATER. Let me repeat myself FIFTY-FIVE YEARS LATER. Still amazing audiences with their skill.
Yup, just like almost everyone else commenting here, I've been following (and worshiping) Jorma and Jack since Jefferson Airplane and the Fillmore East, seen 'em live many times, and they were more influential to my (non-classical) musical life than anyone else, and watching them (and Bob Dylan) continue to be who they have been, both retaining and evolving, is intensely inspiring. And the occupied my Saturday nights during the first year of the pandemic! What terrific musicians, and terrific artists, who now devote much of their lives to teaching others what they have come to know. Keep on truckin' forever, guys!
Only good thing about TH-cam is all the great music we'd miss without it. These are the modern masters of blues...so glad so many young players sponging it up on...youtube.
Jack eyebrows are still in time, just like they were 50 years ago. I used to lean on the stage when they played this song at the clubs in san francisco way back in the day. They were always superb, with Papa John there it was crazy -
Just talked to Larry Campbell last night. He told me that he recently had a song half written and was stuck so he gave it to Jorma and he finished writing it. I’ve been listening to Jorma since the Airplane days. As an old Deadhead I fell in love with these guys 55 years ago. Sadly we’re all old now.
It's always nice to hear a story like this, I just read a similar one, except it involved a woodshed, a piano, and a Ahmad Jamal song, and the dude was like 21, not 11 !
Really.....WOW that must've been a wild ride! Can't imagine being you back then and walkin' that day saying..I'm going to see these guys and Floyd! HOLY!
❤ This!I can Remember as a Kid seeing Records or the LOGO Hot Tuna.Found out Real Quick these Guys were from Jefferson Airplane!StiLL Doin There Thang, nah!Take care every 1!
Man, thanks for posting this!! Saw Hot Tuna in their 1970s glory days, saw Jorma solo acoustic in '03. They've aged like fine wine. Inspiring and beautiful.
I was lucky enough to see hot tuna at Knebworth in 76, they just came on and Vange out the blues and rock, even though lynard sknard were on the bill as well, it 10cc that stole the day , even over the stones headlining.
Years ago I heard an interview with Grace Slick wherein she recounted how becoming world famous overnight caught them by complete surprise because, in her words, "We really weren't very good musicians." After a short pause she added, "Except for Jorma and Jack -- they were real musicians." This proves how right she was.
I saw them a couple of weeks ago at the Beacon Theatre in NYC. Loved every minute of it. Coincidentally, Hot Tuna was my concert freshman year of college, way back in September 1971.
Legendary cats! I've enjoyed them since "Takes Off". A true American treasure. A pleasure to watch their incredible honesty play through the years. Nobody else has done what these two gentlemen have done. No one comes even close.
God bless you Jack and Jorma. Look at us all now since the beginnings of JA. In every respect a lifetime ago. May the Good Shepherd watch over you and your families.
Some riffs from Jorma that remind me of Star Track by the Airplane...Take your head in hand and make your own demands or you'll crystallize on the shelf! Thank you Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna and Jack and Jorma!
Those two older gents still got what it takes. Great guitar accompaniment from both and really great vocals. First time hearing these two gents and they are fantastic to my old ears.👍👍🇨🇦
I'm 63 and well aware of the passage of time, as each year passes faster than the last one. The only thing I care about is what will happen to my cats after I'm gone.
Yeah, same here. Despite the plentiful contrary evidence in the mirror, most of us are still forever 19 in our mind's eye. For decades I kept waiting and hoping that my favorite band from the 70s--Gentle Giant--would reunite and start putting out new albums again. Until the late and very great Ray Shulman, the bassist/violinist/trumpeter/composer of the band gave an interview where he said that the 10 years they had together were enough and that there was just no way that he could or even wanted to live the way he did in his 20s when he was barely getting around in his 70s.
Last saw these guys in 1973! Casady still playing with his eyebrows suddenly brought these two nearly unrecognizable old men into sharp focus, and Jorma's voice is still as sweet as ever . . . wow. Ravages of time is enough to make a man weep.
I’ve always liked hot tuna
I’ve loved “Hot Tuna” since 1968….it warms my heart that they’re still with us….Jorma and Jack 💙✨👏
8} Im from a long line of geezers who kept it going into their 80’s and 90’s. Abide and testify my brothers and sisters.
What I love about Jorma and Jack is they always just wanted to play, they made a living without selling out.Legends.
Making tons of money is not selling out. It's smart!
… anni ‘70 con amore!

@@chipsterb4946how could two acoustic guitars be to loud even through amps.
@@chipsterb4946mabey they were just giving back what they were getting.😑✌
They sound great!
Beautiful performance, old brothers from another mother, loved them all the way since the Jefferson Airplane nice to see them still together
These two are national treasures. They both definitely had a hand in shaping my musical life!
Lol. There sure are a lot of national treasures on TH-cam.
Me THREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Me 4
Me also!

Swing auditorium, 1969.

Lucky for you to have seen these legends over the years and appreciate the contributions they influenced us old baby booomers!😃
The best part of living in Ohio is seeing Jorma and usually Jack play here 2-4X a year. For the past 30 yrs or so. Love the Ranch!
This shows the blues can never get old just like the musicians that play n create it!!! ❤
YEAH,I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN ,BUT REMEMBER OUR GENERATION WILL ALWAYS HAVE THE GREATEST BANDS AND MUSIC TILL THE END OF THE WORLD 🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶👍✌️😎BOB!
You got that right brother!
One would be hard pressed to find a better combo than Jorma and Jack. Pure magic!
Jorma's fingerpicking is in the style of the late great Merle Travis.
Only good thing about TH-cam is all the great music we'd miss without it.
These are the modern masters of blues...so glad so many young players sponging it up on...youtube.
F*** YEAH!!!!
These old boys been around as long as me and that's a long time. Righteous music from folks. Folks Music.
Jack eyebrows are still in time, just like they were 50 years ago. I used to lean on the stage when they played this song at the clubs in san francisco way back in the day. They were always superb, with Papa John there it was crazy -
No offense to him, but he now resembles Don Knotts.
@@gingergeezer3685but he ain’t dead like Don Knotts . Their version of Hesitation Blues is classic.
@@gingergeezer3685 I see it!
Never thought i would see hot tuna again at this age.
What a wonderful friendship!
Glad to see the boys are still kickin an pickin
Awesome IMHO.
These 2 old-timers can show today's musicians a thing or two how it gets done!
God bless you mates, much admiration and respect, you rock!!
jorma still be shakin' it and jack still be bakin' it

Not sad considering the alternative!
yeah, as the saying goes, it's weird being the same age as old people.
When I was 11 I taught myself to play 'Embryonic Journey' note for note. It got me a career. Thanks, guys.
Beautiful song!
It's always nice to hear a story like this, I just read a similar one, except it involved a woodshed, a piano, and a Ahmad Jamal song, and the dude was like 21, not 11 !
Treasures, both of them
Nice! Thanks!
You’re welcome!
Chevy Chase, DC's favorite sons! We salute you, fellas!
National treasures.
Ok didn’t RATWD
Saw Hot Tuna at the Chateau in the santa cruze mountains rocking band , rocking bar
They have been preforming this for over fifty years and they still keep it fresh. What a pleasure.
He'll come 'round your house, he won't take long.
I love Hot Tuna
Anthony Jackson's favorite bassist....the legendary Jack Casady
I was fortunate to see them and Pink Floyd at an outdoor concert in San Diego in 1970
Really.....WOW that must've been a wild ride! Can't imagine being you back then and walkin' that day saying..I'm going to see these guys and Floyd! HOLY!
When real music wants to be played it finds worthy vessels to deliver it to the world. And here it is.
What a treat! Musicians never grow old.
‘They just get outta tune..’😊
Cool bass great lines melody Jack great to see you guys together
❤ This!I can Remember as a Kid seeing Records or the LOGO Hot Tuna.Found out Real Quick these Guys were from Jefferson Airplane!StiLL Doin There Thang, nah!Take care every 1!
I got to see them a few times back in the 80's.
I saw Hot Tuna at the Bath festival in 1970. They were one of the top highlights of the whole festival and there were some huge names on the bill.
Hot Damn, It’s Hot Tuna a little older but just as awesome acoustically!
Brings me back ! ❤
Someone needs to make a movie about these American Treasures.
Jack Cassady for president,Jorma for VP 2024,they are clearly the better option
clearly
Imagine Papa John Creach sitting there, adding to this wonderful song.🎻
Rev Gary gave birth to some great songs..
Man, thanks for posting this!! Saw Hot Tuna in their 1970s glory days, saw Jorma solo acoustic in '03. They've aged like fine wine. Inspiring and beautiful.
You're welcome, and you're right about them!
I saw pink floyd, hot tuna, and Leon Russel out side on a base ball field
Closer than brothers. Imagine what they saw and the places they went together!
Sweet. You can feel them falling into sync with each other.
Love these guys. A lifetime of music together.
Hot Tuna is the absolute best.
I was lucky enough to see hot tuna at Knebworth in 76, they just came on and Vange out the blues and rock, even though lynard sknard were on the bill as well, it 10cc that stole the day , even over the stones headlining.
They've really aged like fine wine.
I prefer to remember them when they were much younger. Im 67 and it just reminds me of how old i am.
No trick, all treat!
The heroes of my youthness!
So locked in, magnificent.
Splashdown 72 is a must have recording
Been listening to these boys since the days of the early Airplane and Burgers, but I love the acoustic duo most of all.
Years ago I heard an interview with Grace Slick wherein she recounted how becoming world famous overnight caught them by complete surprise because, in her words, "We really weren't very good musicians." After a short pause she added, "Except for Jorma and Jack -- they were real musicians." This proves how right she was.
Magnifique!!
We had a hot tuna album in 81 at college we played all the time.
I saw them a couple of weeks ago at the Beacon Theatre in NYC. Loved every minute of it. Coincidentally, Hot Tuna was my concert freshman year of college, way back in September 1971.
Loved Hot Tuna back in the day - thank you to Jorma Kaukonen (and Jack) from another Finn-American
Legendary cats! I've enjoyed them since "Takes Off". A true American treasure. A pleasure to watch their incredible honesty play through the years. Nobody else has done what these two gentlemen have done. No one comes even close.
Jack still playing the 'brows after all these years! I saw these guys back in 1990-ish, an amazing duo.
They are legends. Period
Remember you doing this at the Golden Bear, many, many moons ago -- still a favourite!
Wow, I always imagined them as much younger. I have their 'Pair A Dice Found' album, which is excellent.
Wow just Wow....Soo Good ❤❤❤
Excellent !! Real old guys!! Om❤❤❤
Had a Hot Tuna album back in the day.
How I wish I could've been there to see Two American Legends !!!!!
I saw Jorma Kaukonen live solo long ago. He was more entertaining by himself than many bands I’ve seen.
That bass is very hip. Love you gentlemen.
FANTASTIC as always!!!
God bless you Jack and Jorma. Look at us all now since the beginnings of JA. In every respect a lifetime ago. May the Good Shepherd watch over you and your families.
I saw them in Boston in the early 70's; it was a road trip in a 1960 chevy wagon. It was completely worth it.
I just bought the first Hot Tuna album from 1970, in mint condition for one dollar……..what a treasure, great record!
Danke 👍👍👍
1st time I saw them was at The Beacon in 1975. They Still kick much ass!!
Yes!
This has been one of my favorites for 50+ years.
Bellisimo!!!!
The music is coming out from deep inside their soul. Privileged to listen to this fantastic blues duet
Saw them in Iowa city in 1973 Jack was amped with 5 Dual Showmans
Some riffs from Jorma that remind me of Star Track by the Airplane...Take your head in hand and make your own demands or you'll crystallize on the shelf! Thank you Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna and Jack and Jorma!
Can't be the same Hot Tuna I danced to in the late 60's in a field.
Those two older gents still got what it takes. Great guitar accompaniment from both and really great vocals. First time hearing these two gents and they are fantastic to my old ears.👍👍🇨🇦
