That weird little plant like a pine cone is squaw root . Indian medicine my late husband would sing " call ole rattler from the barn here rattler here". Thank you for letting me walk with you it's sure pretty. Wish I could do this again.

Thank y'all for taking me on this trail with you. Brought back many good memories of my Dad and I walking through the hills. I'm no longer able to get around in the mountains, but man did you ever make my day with this video. I love seeing the spring wild flowers. Keep up the fantastic work!

Mountain Laurel is the bush. It's a wild rhododendron. State flower. Don't see too many timber rattlers up here, mostly copperheads. My Dad used red dog for our driveway when I was a kid. Wild geraniums at the beginning of the waterfall trail. Thanks for the beautiful walk!

Great hike in the woods Leo. I was born in Wheeling and grew up right across the river in Ohio. My Daddy sickled out walking trails. We lived in the woods. After dinner, we'd walk as a family throughout our hillside. I miss the 70s.

I always learn something from your videos. There's a black snake that lives in a burrow under my vegetable garden. The garden is right next to the house. I've seen it several times and it is well over 6 feet long. I found an almost complete shed skin that was about 7 feet long and several inches thick. I'm not the least bit scared of it but respect it and am thankful it's here. We had been overrun with mice in the winter until the snake took up housekeeping.
There's a small herd of deer that run through my yard almost every night. I've been blessed to be able to watch the spotted babies grow into magnificent creatures.
I was a little disappointed that we didn't see a rattlesnake but the deer made up for it. Thanks for taking us along.

I for one am glad you didn't see any snakes. I adore your channel and your and Heather's adventures. I mostly watch you guys The Appalachian Channel, The Appalachian History Detective, Carolina Tony, The best family farm and sidestep adventures. The best guys also does lost the the smokies and sidestep does old Byrd farm series. Although I live in Florida and love it here my heart will always be the the mountains. I grew up in the foothills of Carolina but spent a lot of summers roaming the mountains of NC and Tennessee. Been thru west Virginia it was beautiful and have visited Kentucky.

Nice video Mr. Leo and Miss Heather.
Your right, if a person wasnt raised outside and in or around the country, you really missed a lot.
If you think there aren't any snakes around, all you gotta do is dig aroud those rock piles or thick brush. I know you know that but those that have never been around them, don't know.
Your right about the black racer too, ive seen 10 and 12 foot long.
Not sure if id be upset about not finding a rattlesnake. Better to miss them, than find one when you werent looking. But if your out in nature and not looking, your a fool!!!
Hey guys , thanks again for the great video.
    Never disappointed !!!
God bless ya'll and hope ya'll stay safe on your travels.

Very enjoyable video, thank you very much Leo. It was something different, but enjoyable. My rhododendrons started flowering 💐 the middle of last month. Beautiful country, perhaps not seeing any rattlesnakes is not necessarily a bad thing. The deer 🦌 was cool! The coal silo was cool. Thank you very much again Leo, you and Heather have a great weekend. 😊

Hi Leo. I’m new here. Yesterday I found one of your videos, Cap Hatfield from 2 months ago. I just loved it so much and have since been trying to binge watch!! I just love your humor, knowledge and easy voice and your content is awesome. But… I only know your name is Leo and I’ve heard you speak of someone by the name of Heather. I may be the newest one on your channel, if so, then I will have to back up the videos and listen for your backstory’s. Just know that you all have a fan forever!! What a beautiful day for a walk. I can't believe how close the deer let you get to her. She seemed so calm. When you said you were going up rattle snake trail. I almost didn't watch. If you had seen one i would be gone. I hate snakes. When you saw horse shoe prints my first thought was i wouldn't ride my horse there. One snake & he would bolt.when you said if the horse heard a snake he be gone with or without you. Truer words have never been a spoken. I literally experienced that. Not fun i stayed on but it was a wicked ride. I'm glad you didn't end up wth rain or briars😸 see you soon

I can't help myself to comment. If its allowed, I put my 2 cents in. I waited for a grave stone, etc. I had to back out, look at the title again. Then...right back to ur video. Love 'em so far. You are so funny Leo. Is it too early for rattlesnakes or copperheads or any snake? I don't know. Yes, it is a rhododendron, WV's state flower and ,my favorite flower. I am surprised that you are not in an old cemetery. It certainly looks like an area for an old historic forgotten cemetery. Yes, when I was a child growing up in Dunbar, the woods were just across the railroad tracks and I roamed them every summer. There was a marsh that had cattails and frogs. I would catch the frogs. Boy, they were big old frogs, too. I walked the railroad tracks and found large pieces of coal which I made into several "coal flowers". To make a "coal flower," place the piece of coal in a dish such a fish bowl (what I always used). Put idolized salt, bluing and mmychrochrome (if you can still find these last two products) on the top of the piece of coal. Place in a closet or basement that is totally dark. After two weeks, take out and it will be a pretty flower (not a blooming one(. You might want to check the coal out during the two weeks, but do not remove from the dark area. You might want to put additional salt, bluing, and mychrocrome. Never put water on it. Thank you for this awesome video Leo. I love you to death, but I miss Heather.

No rattlesnakes, but you would not want to be digging around and disturb a nest of those underground yellow and black wasper, in North Georgia we call them ground bumblebees,, be plowing a garden with a mule n hit one of their nest. You will see a man and a mule making a run for the nearest water and diving in, a side-by-side or a farm tractor maybe fast but those guys have built-in seek-and-destroy radar they will hunt you down and sting you😂😂
