1.) Angkor Wat - also known as the “City/Capital of Temples,” is a remarkable temple complex located in Cambodia. Angkor Wat was initially a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Vishnu. Its layout symbolically represents Mount Meru, the mythical abode of the devas in Hindu cosmology. At its center stands a quincunx of towers. The modern name “Angkor Wat” means “Temple City” or “City of Temples” in Khmer.Angkor itself means “city” or “capital city” in vernacular Khmer. The original name of the temple was “Vrah Viṣṇuloka” or “Parama Viṣṇuloka”, signifying “the sacred dwelling of Vishnu”. Guinness World Records recognizes Angkor Wat as the largest religious structure in the world.
2.) The Taj Mahal - also known as the “Crown of the Palace,” is an exquisite ivory-white marble mausoleum located on the right bank of the river Yamuna in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. The Taj Mahal is a masterpiece of Mughal architecture, blending Indian, Persian, and Islamic styles. The mausoleum houses the tombs of both Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan. In 1983, the Taj Mahal was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was declared one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. The name “Taj Mahal” is of Urdu origin, derived from Arabic and Persian. "Taj” comes from the corruption of the second syllable of “Mumtaz”, Shah Jahan’s wife. It means “crown palace” in Urdu.
3.) The Egyptian pyramids - are ancient masonry structures located in Egypt. Egyptian pyramid is found at Saqqara, northwest of Memphis. It dates back to the First Dynasty and is attributed to Pharaoh Anedjib. The most famous Egyptian pyramids are located at Giza, on the outskirts of Cairo. Among them, the Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops) stands as the largest Egyptian pyramid and is the only surviving wonder of the ancient world. It dates back about 4,500 years. The Giza complex also includes the Pyramid of Menkaure and the Pyramid of Khafre. Pyramids served as royal tombs, where pharaohs were buried along with their treasures and belongings. Their design symbolized the pharaoh’s ascent to the afterlife and their eternal power. In Egyptian, the word for pyramid is “myr”, represented by the hieroglyphic symbol !myr. The exact meaning of “myr” remains unclear, but it is often translated as “high place”.
4.)The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood - is a Russian Orthodox church in Saint Petersburg, Russia. It serves as both a secular museum and an active church. it honors Emperor Alexander II, and the suffix “on [Spilled] Blood” refers to his assassination. The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood is a stunning example of Russian Revival architecture.
