This was a very good classic. I have watched several times and enjoy. Darren McGavin was the perfect Kolchak character. The supporting cast was great as well. Thanks for the post.
Darren brought a lot of energy to the parts he played. Even when he was playing "laid back" he never coasted. I think he would have been great to act with. I'm sure most of you 😊know his terrific work in Christmas Story. What a gem of a film! He was also a fine voice actor. There's a fantastic series of Travis McGee stories on CD's and tapes, about a dozen of them, good action and pretty funny too! He's a private eye who lives on a house boat in Florida (before the "PI on a float-home" thing became a giant cliché!) Give it a try, you might like it!
@@MrBsbottoI really loved the Travis McGee books. I read those things as fast as I could find them. (Not sure I was the target audience for those books, lol. I was a teenage girl!) Thanks for telling me about the books. I'm going to try to find them!!

Lol. Me too. I was about 16 when these came out. STILL love them....and I always thought the "underground Seattle" was just made up for the movie so imagine my surprise when I found out (when we went to Seattle one weekend with our kiddos, who were themselves teens by then) that there really was an underground Seattle. We did the tours and everything. Pretty amazing story!!
Excellent acting and storytelling. The Night Stalker series with Darren McGavin is one of my favorites. Authority is always in denial and never listens to Karl’s cautionary warnings. Love it.
My mother told me I was too little to watch The Nightstalker series with her when I was a kid. She was right. I was five. I love that I can find the movies and series to watch now. They are entertaining.
My poor father was not so lucky. The Night Stalker seemed to be shown on air during our mother's bowling night. Our father was just relieved that my older sister and I were out of his hair. Little did he know we would be scared to death and drive him bonkers.
I was in third grade, this program and that music chilled my bones when I had to walk up the stairs to bed......Id literally dive for the covers and tighten down all blanket edges lolololol😂
Fabulous movie along with The Night Stalker and then the brilliant series that followed. McGavin was a genius piece of casting and the scripts/stories/supporting cast were excellent. Karl Kolchak you legend.
I was 8 years old. Watch this and the series…loved it all. They don’t make stuff like this anymore. So many series were created based on this classic. There will never be another!
Not to forget Darren McGavin, who starred in "Kolchak-The Night Stalker", had also played several characters in Chris Carter's "The X-Files" and "Millenium"! I really enjoyed Kolchak as a kid growing up in the 70's and early 80's...one of those TV shows I really looked forward to watching with my dad. That show...along with The Six Million Dollar Man (with Lee Majors)...and The Incredible Hulk (with Bill Bixby). When the X-Files arrived on the scene...man was I primed for that show! Fast forward into another decade and it was "Supernatural". I suppose I never grew out of the genre...and the writing/acting in both X-Files and Supernatural made for great entertainment. It was also interesting to see cross-over of both writers and actors between these shows (Kolchak to X-Files, X-Files to Supernatural).

I wish they would have made more seasons of this show, it was so good. It would be so cool to have full access to all of the Seattle underground, the tour only takes you on a very small area, I have been on it twice. They do a night time tour more adult oriented. The daytime are youth friendly. My wife used to march in the Daffodil Parade in Puyallup with her high schhool marching band. Good times gone by.

Scott Brady, too. You could always count on a Dan Curtis Production to bring chills and thrills. The opening scene with the lady running and stopping the cab to say someone's out there chasing her and then after that she just stands there at a curb lighting.a cigarette is a little unrealistic.
