    This garden is fabulous. One need not be afraid of a hill. Love the way they incorporated the paths inside the boxes to save space. Might be able to use that option in my garden to add some gardening square footage. Terracing really expands the available land for such uses.

    I noticed and LOVED the harvesting of the kaleidoscope carrots because...the harvest looks real (like mine😄 some large, some small)
    A few months back I custom built a garden bed for - manpukuji carrots! I'm sooooo excited I could scream!

    The terraced beds look fantastic. Timmy didn't mention swales, but they would fit very easily into the slope and help retain water.
    As an Aussie I did have to laugh at the idea of that being drought. Even when there's been no rain for 2 months, that is merely a dry summer, not a drought.

    I think any growing area that is in a depression tends to be more susceptible to pests. I have first hand experienced of this, my house garden raised beds have less insect problems compared to my orchard garden, which about 1,5 meters below by house garden. Top video Huw 🙏

    Here's a tip for keeping deer out of your garden.... Deer won't jump to where they can't see the landing, so you actually don't even need really tall fences to keep them out, you just need tp make a barrier wall about 5 feet tall that they can't see through to where their landing spot is and have it look somewhat treacherous to jump. Get creative

    • @lauramonahan9343
      @lauramonahan9343 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Solid barrier walls block sunlight and create shadows. How do you get around that?

    • @nateross14
      @nateross14 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@lauramonahan9343 Well, if you're in a confined space, that could be a potential issue, but for more open areas it's not an issue. Just don't plant things in the shadow area that need full sun, or plant plants that like shade there.

    Thank you for another great piece, i have recently put in autumn shallots about a week ago when they came into a no dig i started after the desert that was left. And with in the month of Nov we had about 1 quarter of yearly rain. I am from the east coast of Essex, a good year is 20 - 25 inches a year it's dry here. And reached in the shade on hottest day 43c but due to rules don't count. After this year nearly killing my job (gardener) as well as a lot of crop the insect pest was like a plague and not even the desert got rid of them, in fact made it worse. I have re-established a wild pond with homes for the slugs and snail as well as the frogs a toad i'll like, but it take what i can within 2 weeks female frog set up home in hard core, sticks and chippings with overflow to pond going into that wood chippings . Set up home due to the temp drop faster than a chav knickers for a bag of chips i believe and hope they can sit out the winter there it on slope south facing with concrete rocks and browns in about a foot deep . The soil of recent planting has changed there are like see through worms with bugs that go through their casts (poo) and other things eating them etc the robins , tits and finches go through after even i walked on the pathways. thank you to you and Charles Dowling, but your camera work, mate, is something else @TH-cam photography and film award !

    I would love it if there could be a way to find the true cost of doing this year after year because I wanted to start a garden at the restaurant I was working at and they did not feel it could become cost-effective. I think that doing things like this is better for the environment and help teach a lot so I wish I could see it at more establishments. I think having a bit of the cost on display could potentially help others get on board.
