Lovely price for a 2 OSC at least. It's time USB-powerable/ed devices start bringing built in DI circuits, I use IKEA's LADDA which are ENELOOP factory goodness, but that noise floor rises so high I need a stepladder the moment I get the bad idea to also control things over USB. Blech!
they spec a cable on the IK site that really does help if you have a balanced interface. Much as i cringe to use it lol. the right Powered USB hub also does the job iirc
As a Moog Source owner, i would never buy another synth, or anything else for that matter, that uses touch panel controls. It's a really serious flaw on the Moog...it makes operating it so slow. If i wasn't so emotionally attached to the synth, i would have sold it years ago! Great video, as ever. 👍🏻
@@AudioPilz 😂- Well, with something that tasty it’s hard not to sit down and occasionally make a meal out of it- ... besides I moved on from crayons ages ago, when I realised the yellow ones didn’t taste of lemon any more than Aira gear has a minty flavour! ;) Mr Carpenter aside, check out Mr Kirk Slinkard’s amazing and delightfully humorous series of videos. th-cam.com/video/Dw_sd0RHlZY/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/7dEzF7QSgQE/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/5J016m2wbWI/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/Gz8ZmVF4gyE/w-d-xo.html Definitely a better gear contender!
For the price, especially used, the Uno blows any other analogue out of the water. The amount of flexibility is really incredible. Those morphing waves are something you'd never find on a volca and a modulation matrix for $200... Incredible. But I think I'd rather save up for the pro version so I wouldn't feel like I was missing out on the better interface and expanded feature set
I had that little thing 2 and sold it twice lol but I will say that before I sold it the first time, I sampled my favorite Bass patch. Its sound is strong enough, but playing it from a sampler is just as good because there really arent too many parameters to mess with.
When I bought my first synth in 2018 I was deciding between either a Monologue or the UNO. I'm very glad today I spent a little extra then and went for the Korg. Needless to say I spent multiples in the following years when the GAS kicked in :D
awesome episode , so as for korg 707 , finally catched all shows since i was absent :P somehow glad that you had technical issue today :P which you will fix soon !
I had the feeling once I saw the Pro that the original UNO was basically a publicly sold prototype that used the hype of miniaturized synths to pass off what could be seen as a late beta test.
I liked the sound of this, but editing drove me nuts. After the last time I lost a patch, I just gave up and put it on a shelf. - Hitting param Up and found out I was in wrong mode because it just went to next patch and lost this one - Similarly same thing when editing a sequence and having it lose everything - Hit tempo countless times when messing with filter. So annoying because, when synch'd, it wasn't just a small change, it was like 1/2 or 2x or something huge. - All those secondary functions that never made it to the front panel graphics Some of those things were fixed in updates, AFAIK, but I was done by then. I did, however, pick up the Pro version because, like I said, I like the sound :) The icing on the cake was them getting all the TH-camrs to "review" the synth, and leave out all the bad things they acknowledged privately or outside the video. I do hope they learned from that. Everyone makes mistakes :)
The noisey outputs put me off, not had anyone confirm that this can be resolved fully. Also it doesnt sound very snappy , seems like there is a lag in the sound. I like the sound of it and thought that the Pro version would be the answer but that sounds different to this, not as raw which is a shame.
I like mine. Was my first analogue synth. I think it can also be viewed as IK's test the market entry for hardware from them. Obviously they'd have wanted a successful first product, however they wouldn't want to bet the company on it. As a first analogue synth for somebody, and as possibly a first synth, it provides a lot of learning opportunities.
If you're plugging into a balanced input, IK provide a cable spec in the manual that solves the noise problems. I have mine powered with a USB hub plugged into a computer, with that cable into a mixer balanced XLR,, and have no noise issues at all.
There is much I don’t like about the Uno, and yet I keep drifting back to it and don’t regret buying it.* It’s not going to sound like much of an endorsement either but especially the matrix layout, it makes a good beginner synth for grasping what the different filter/envelop/lfo stuff does. Every time I think I’ve had it with the Uno, something crops up and I say ok let’s see if the Uno can add something…and I’m happy with the results. *after updating the firmware so it would stop jumping presets.
uhhhh... at 3:53 the Roland System-8, part of the AIRA line, most certainly records parameter changes (up to two per step) in the sequencer. Eat that! :)
So good as always. I've always wanted to see you cover this synth, so glad you did! Do you think you'd ever cover the Novation Mininova? I'd love to hear your thoughts on it
Another flaw is the filter keyboard knob is only exist in the software... They can definitly make that in the parameter matrix in the future firmware updates.
Erik Norlander was the main designer for IK Multimedia for the Uno. I remember seeing videos of him demonstrating it at (I think) a Superbooth show and being impressed by the features at such a low price point. If I were to guess, he tried to pack as much as possible into the thing and keep to whatever budge he was given.
Bloody hell mate are you doing a show on everything I have in my studio?lol I have the uno and I love it,yes on its first release it was crap but once it got updated it was stable and sounds great
Last year I bought a used UNO synth for very cheap. But I find that I rarely ever use it. If you love sizzling saw wave sounds, it delivers those in abundance. But to get anything else requires a bit of effort.
I was supposed to buy this little boy, but finally decided for the MICROKORG such a beast, I also choose the MONOLOGUE instead of the Waldorf rocket, now I am looking for the Korg Volca Fm, I don't know why but i'm becoming a Korg lover......
great feature as always, but i'm most compelled to say: REALLY flattering use of the EHX holy grail verb - i never wanted one until now, it just never impressed me and until the premium reverb pedal boom with empress/eventide/etc i felt like i could never trust guitarists and guitarist-marketed gear when it came to reverbs (not a complete snob just that i could trust alesis a lot more for budget verbs). but it was perfect on the IK uno there and i'm curious about possibly having it as an insert for other mono-output synths. damn i bet yam FM + holy grail sounds spooky, i'm off to search for it. thanks again for bringing us along with these!
Wait, the Akai is your favorite underdog drum machine? That explains why I heard your SR-16 over on the shelf muttering "What am I? A piece of chopped liver?" under its breath. Guess now I need to pony up for an XR-20 in addition to the Alesis. :D
@@AudioPilz Ok, good point. Tough to argue with a 30 year old product that's still in production. I *do* wonder though, when has there ever been a successful Bond villain? :D
Cheers Florian, still a great sounding little synth ... with some grating design and software issues, nearly IK, nearly. Really enjoyed the Good Gear jam, just missing some JJ Abrams lens flare off the 'ol disco ball. :)
I got the Uno Synth and in my opinion is a good synth, the sound is big for the size, construction is not that good but is acceptable, I got mine for $130 brand new 2 years ago. Did they have space for better options I think so but the real analog sound is definitely there and I like it. PS: I got the Uno Drum too!
I'm no pro by any means, but I like the UNO synth. I sold it when i needed a little $ but then i bought it again recently. I really like the arpeggiator and the scale quantization. It sounds pretty good and would be great for synthwave.

they spec a cable on the IK site that really does help if you have a balanced interface. Much as i cringe to use it lol. the right Powered USB hub also does the job iirc
@@mycosys Yes, the specs for that cable are also in to the manual. My UNO Synth works fine with my balanced input mixer now.
(and I'm USB hub powering it)
Your videos are very funny..........I laughed at the knob sound and those leaky batteries!
Thank you so much!!!
Its Friday... its Bad Gear Day! ... the Godzilla video had me in stitches
Happy to hear that, thanks!
Awesome tunes this episode! :D
Thanks!
about to buy a 2nd hand one soon, very soon, i think it's small enough to fit on my crowded desktop, and go thru another distortion pedal = )
YASSS! Bad Gear Friday never disappoints! Bad Gear 4 Life!
We live 4 Bad Gear!!!
For the intro alone you get immediate thumbs up.
LEXX is pretty rad.
Thanks! Alien!!!
every Friyay, as soon as I see a new vid in my subscriptions, as it's loading up - it gets an instalike. :-D

oooh, your intor sounds really warm this time

Can’t wait for the Stylophone episode… only because I want to hear you jam out on one! 😉
Thanks for the suggestion! I'm really shirking that one;)
Have you seen the stylophone drum machine its TERRIBLE
@@redonk87 Are you talking about the Hip Hop Stylophone? I have one. Hilariously crap!
😁👍👍
As a Moog Source owner, i would never buy another synth, or anything else for that matter, that uses touch panel controls.
It's a really serious flaw on the Moog...it makes operating it so slow. If i wasn't so emotionally attached to the synth, i would have sold it years ago!
Great video, as ever. 👍🏻
Thanks! Not my first choice either
I nearly spat out my SQ-80 when you introdunced that last track!
Ensoniqs are a serious choking hazard;)

😂- Well, with something that tasty it’s hard not to sit down and occasionally make a meal out of it-
... besides I moved on from crayons ages ago, when I realised the yellow ones didn’t taste of lemon any more than Aira gear has a minty flavour! ;)
Mr Carpenter aside, check out Mr Kirk Slinkard’s amazing and delightfully humorous series of videos.

Definitely a better gear contender!
The Godzilla mash-up gave me a laugh - well done.
Thank you!!!
👍👍👍
I had that little thing 2 and sold it twice lol but I will say that before I sold it the first time, I sampled my favorite Bass patch. Its sound is strong enough, but playing it from a sampler is just as good because there really arent too many parameters to mess with.
Agreed! Nice technique!
Fun little box that is what it is. Got mine on sale with 0% int. for 48 mos. Nice first synth.
Agreed, great for beginners. It sounds like a real synth
The sign in page for the uno editor is funny as hell
First Name: Kissmy
Last Name: Behind
LMFAO!!!!
Hey, that's my true name😂
6:33 this is beautiful dude !
Thank you!!!
When I bought my first synth in 2018 I was deciding between either a Monologue or the UNO. I'm very glad today I spent a little extra then and went for the Korg. Needless to say I spent multiples in the following years when the GAS kicked in :D
GAS is a serious danger to every gearheads bank account!
awesome episode , so as for korg 707 , finally catched all shows since i was absent :P somehow glad that you had technical issue today :P which you will fix soon !
I had the feeling once I saw the Pro that the original UNO was basically a publicly sold prototype that used the hype of miniaturized synths to pass off what could be seen as a late beta test.
I thought the exact same thing😂
I liked the sound of this, but editing drove me nuts. After the last time I lost a patch, I just gave up and put it on a shelf.
- Hitting param Up and found out I was in wrong mode because it just went to next patch and lost this one
- Similarly same thing when editing a sequence and having it lose everything
- Hit tempo countless times when messing with filter. So annoying because, when synch'd, it wasn't just a small change, it was like 1/2 or 2x or something huge.
- All those secondary functions that never made it to the front panel graphics
Some of those things were fixed in updates, AFAIK, but I was done by then. I did, however, pick up the Pro version because, like I said, I like the sound :)
The icing on the cake was them getting all the TH-camrs to "review" the synth, and leave out all the bad things they acknowledged privately or outside the video. I do hope they learned from that. Everyone makes mistakes :)
Don't all manufacturers do that?;)
@@AudioPilz To an extent, but these were rather exceptionally bad.
Never buy the first version (on most things made after 2000). It’s basically beta testing for the public.
That truly sounds like the worst case scenario for sound design, shame
Thanks for posting, I have to try that cable!
Bad Gear is the greatest channel in the history of synth videos!
❤️❤️❤️
There is much I don’t like about the Uno, and yet I keep drifting back to it and don’t regret buying it.*
It’s not going to sound like much of an endorsement either but especially the matrix layout, it makes a good beginner synth for grasping what the different filter/envelop/lfo stuff does. Every time I think I’ve had it with the Uno, something crops up and I say ok let’s see if the Uno can add something…and I’m happy with the results.
*after updating the firmware so it would stop jumping presets.
Agreed, it's a great starting point!
uhhhh... at 3:53 the Roland System-8, part of the AIRA line, most certainly records parameter changes (up to two per step) in the sequencer. Eat that! :)
The UNO got TWENTY!!! (should we stop the measuring contest?;)
5:25 sounds like the soundtrack to a movie I definitely have to watch
Most likely a cop/gangster thing!
So good as always. I've always wanted to see you cover this synth, so glad you did! Do you think you'd ever cover the Novation Mininova? I'd love to hear your thoughts on it
Thanks! Great suggestion (unfortunately, I just messed up a good deal for a Mininova😢)
great video! would it be possible to trigger other instruments with the sequencer?
Killer moves by Godzi!
She really knows how to party!
Another flaw is the filter keyboard knob is only exist in the software... They can definitly make that in the parameter matrix in the future firmware updates.
Yeah, so many omissions!!!
EN really knows his stuff!
Bloody hell mate are you doing a show on everything I have in my studio?lol
I have the uno and I love it,yes on its first release it was crap but once it got updated it was stable and sounds great
It's nothing personal;)
Last year I bought a used UNO synth for very cheap. But I find that I rarely ever use it. If you love sizzling saw wave sounds, it delivers those in abundance. But to get anything else requires a bit of effort.
I really like the square too! Nice overtones!
I was supposed to buy this little boy, but finally decided for the MICROKORG such a beast, I also choose the MONOLOGUE instead of the Waldorf rocket, now I am looking for the Korg Volca Fm, I don't know why but i'm becoming a Korg lover......
Nothing wrong with Korg stuff, love it!
great feature as always, but i'm most compelled to say: REALLY flattering use of the EHX holy grail verb - i never wanted one until now, it just never impressed me and until the premium reverb pedal boom with empress/eventide/etc i felt like i could never trust guitarists and guitarist-marketed gear when it came to reverbs (not a complete snob just that i could trust alesis a lot more for budget verbs). but it was perfect on the IK uno there and i'm curious about possibly having it as an insert for other mono-output synths. damn i bet yam FM + holy grail sounds spooky, i'm off to search for it. thanks again for bringing us along with these!
Thanks! The HG is very unpretentious, love it!
Hi! Happy Friday! Good choice for Bad Gear. Which do you prefer: IK Uno or Modal Skulpt SE?
Thanks! These two would be a nice combination!
Wait, the Akai is your favorite underdog drum machine? That explains why I heard your SR-16 over on the shelf muttering "What am I? A piece of chopped liver?" under its breath. Guess now I need to pony up for an XR-20 in addition to the Alesis. :D
The SR-16 is not exactly an underdog. It rules the world since 1991 like a successful Bond villain;)
Thank you!!!
I agree but the jump to the pro version is $$$ 😢
I'm no pro by any means, but I like the UNO synth. I sold it when i needed a little $ but then i bought it again recently. I really like the arpeggiator and the scale quantization. It sounds pretty good and would be great for synthwave.
Great if it works in your setup!
