Yeah, I remember being a teenager with a household that didn't make a whole lot of cash, and going to school was hell sometimes. The shallow thing that kids would tease you over, and you are just always wishing you could be that awesome pair of Bongo shorts just to fit in. Kids don't realize that being unique is the way to go, not following the trends.
When I was a teen I went shopping for Christmas with my aunt and uncle and I distinctly remember my uncle complaining about companies getting free advertising by putting their logo/company name on their products. Now, whenever I go shopping for clothes I always think about that and make a conscious effort not to buy clothing with brand names on them. So it’s interesting to see that branding is so important and seen as a status symbol.
I ADORE the duality of this channel. One second I’m contemplating the philosophy behind assigning worth to objects that have little intrinsic value, the next I’m watching a luxury cat. It’s a rollercoaster ride of emotions and I’m here for it.

what I absolutely adore about this woman is the fact that while her videos are always fun and entertainment, she always expresses her stance or opinion in a very professional, respectful and very educative manner. I cannot think of another human with this level of professionalism while being funny and being true to their self. I am back after so many years to her videos and so happy she has not changed a bit. I'm extremely late to the Cristine party but honestly seeing this video was what finally got me to buy from Holo Taco. Partially out of appreciation for how honest she seems, and I think she is actually a decent role model compared to many other TH-camrs who young kids (unfortunately) look up to. Awesome video!
Reminds me of when a friend told me his mom always bought Chanel nail colors because apparently they were amazing and beautiful. Went to that store and saw the most basic nail polish colors ever and they were seriously overpriced.

Excellent point! I like the way, the sensible way Christine approached this and educated about it. At 63, I have used expensive polishes and noticed the same thing. BECAUSE of Christine I’m not getting acrylic nails anymore either. My nails are slowly growing out, I own a farm so I don’t need the length, but feel better about myself.

the only way to describe that collection is "boring and uninspiring". it's the exact same collection of colours every low end polish brand has: pink, red, beige, blue and a token mint. the only surprising thing is that they bothered to put a green in it.

I think it's kinda weird that gaudy old brands are putting the same logo on everything and still trying to sell it today. Like that Mickey t-shirt is... whatever the opposite of high fashion is. It looks like something you'd see at a flea market, but in a bad way. I went back to 13:03 and am staring at the shirt to try to make it look good. If you removed the logo/Mickey/belt thing it would be an okay off-white shirt. Shoulder seam is kinda low so it maybe doesn't fit the model very well?

I work in a preschool that's catered towards rich families and let me tell you, parents actually buy clothes from the Armani, Versace and Gucci etc. Kids collections for them to wear to school. Where we do messy arts and crafts, and play outdoors. It's wild honestly.

I literally have dollar store brands which go on less streaky & look smooth pre- top coat. It’s amazing to think there are people who think they are getting high quality. It’s actually kinda sad that they think it’s the best creme available. I was shocked at how badly that red needed a taco! I have wet n’ wild, and l.a. colors that are just as good as zoya or live love polish or holo taco or ilnp. There are great affordable options, especially for cremes. A good holo is a little more, which is understandable. But, you can always wear a holo taco holo taco over an l.a. colors creme. I’m actually surprised that Gucci doesn’t meet basic standards. I’d be pissed if I dropped $42 on that. Then I’d be embarrassed to see how low quality it is. At least I finally understand the Gucci stamps & stickers & gold lettering I’ve seen to put the logo on the nails. Gotta spend extra time and money so people know it’s Gucci (though there’s nothing preventing the Gucci logo being put on an opi base).
I think a huge part of it is that many of those brands specifically focus on creating their specific products, i.e. nail polish or beauty products. Whereas Gucci (and many other luxury brands) treat it as a gimmick. They know people don't care about actually having a good product. It's either about "investing" in a "collector's item" (since many of the luxury brands do not restock items once they sell out)--you can see it in the weird Jeffree Star/Shane collab video with Jeffree's house tour where he compares it to collecting art so that the value increases over time--or about the people who are obsessed with the brand and care more about the name on it rather than the product itself. Therefore, Gucci knows that many of the people buying it won't even open it, and the people who do won't care about the quality, they'll care about getting to tell their friends/social media "I'm wearing Gucci nail polish."

When I was a teen I went shopping for Christmas with my aunt and uncle and I distinctly remember my uncle complaining about companies getting free advertising by putting their logo/company name on their products. Now, whenever I go shopping for clothes I always think about that and make a conscious effort not to buy clothing with brand names on them. So it’s interesting to see that branding is so important and seen as a status symbol.

I'm extremely late to the Cristine party but honestly seeing this video was what finally got me to buy from Holo Taco. Excellent point! I like the way, the sensible way Christine approached this and educated about it. At 63, I have used expensive polishes and noticed the same thing. BECAUSE of Christine I’m not getting acrylic nails anymore either. My nails are slowly growing out, I own a farm so I don’t need the length, but feel better about myself.

I literally have dollar store brands which go on less streaky & look smooth pre- top coat. It’s amazing to think there are people who think they are getting high quality. It’s actually kinda sad that they think it’s the best creme available. I was shocked at how badly that red needed a taco!
I have wet n’ wild, and l.a. colors that are just as good as zoya or live love polish or holo taco or ilnp. There are great affordable options, especially for cremes. A good holo is a little more, which is understandable. But, you can always wear a holo taco holo taco over an l.a. colors creme.
I’m actually surprised that Gucci doesn’t meet basic standards. I’d be pissed if I dropped $42 on that. Then I’d be embarrassed to see how low quality it is.

I think a huge part of it is that many of those brands specifically focus on creating their specific products, i.e. nail polish or beauty products. Whereas Gucci (and many other luxury brands) treat it as a gimmick. They know people don't care about actually having a good product. It's either about "investing" in a "collector's item" (since many of the luxury brands do not restock items once they sell out)--you can see it in the weird Jeffree Star/Shane collab video with Jeffree's house tour where he compares it to collecting art so that the value increases over time--or about the people who are obsessed with the brand and care more about the name on it rather than the product itself. Therefore, Gucci knows that many of the people buying it won't even open it, and the people who do won't care about the quality, they'll care about getting to tell their friends/social media "I'm wearing Gucci nail polish."
