Man watching Marty is insane. He plays and moves like he's half his age. It's awesome to see The Church still kick ass for so long. They are true musicians.
I watched a youtube video of Marty in some record store in America, just talking to people. It likely was shot with someone's phone. Marty is so real, and seemed so apparently happy to be talking the craft with amateur players. He tells his philosophy that "it's all in the right hand," when it comes to 12 string Rickenbacker technique. Not too bad on the Fender either. Best Orchestral Rock Number Ever.
It warms my heart to see so many people loving HEYDAY. They opened for Echo and the Bunnymen playing all out. They left the stage and I didn't care if E&TB even played. I was on my way to the merch table to get whatever that was that just happened.
WOW! The best version of that song I've ever heard....better than the record. Does anyone know about the show itself? Is that the Sydney Opera House? WOW again!...stunningly great.
@@bloffs3352not so, Came to Scotland in 82,walked off the support tour to Duran Duran Got a gig in bannockburn in a wee pub and became legends with us.
I agree with you to a large extent. I just think that it's their respective personalities made very visible when the band are playing on stage. MWP has incredible charisma and I think the viewers eyes are just more drawn t him. But yes, Peter Koppes does more than his fair share of guitar parts that make up the bands sound. I just think his personality is more subdued.
No way Marty replacement will replace Marty. See em a few times. Marty plays with unmatched fury. This track showcases that. Still love the band. Hate it when egos get in the way. Haven't learned from Pink Floyd?
Fred Vo You were wrong my friend, Ian Hugh (Marty's replacement) was brilliant on this last tour = big shoes to fill but Ian is an amazing guitarist too.Although MWP kicks ass OMG in this video!
True, but Powles is still brilliant. There are times where he looks as though he is struggling to keep up but holds it altogether. A very different drummer than Ploog but I still really enjoy his playing.

FANTASTIC INTRO...JUST LOVE MARTY....SUCH A COOL BLOKE AND VERY APPROACHABLE TO FANS.
Such a solid and inspired rhythm effort from MWP, proving once and for all that Rickenbaker guitars are so much more than one trick ponies...!!!
Heyday: Not ony does this album have no bad songs on it......It has ZERO even mildly mediocre songs on it........A STUNNINGLY brilliant record.
Starfish was their most POPULAR album(deservedly).....Heyday was their BEST album
Blurred crusade for me
sweet geezus, what a performance!!!!!
I saw Marty and Steve mere feet in front of me at a gig where I was at the foot of the stage. It was phenomenal.
Best band of the 80's, hands down! And I GET TO SEE THEM TOMORROW!
The best performance...... Better than studio version....
How did Marty's right hand not fall off during that song!

Never tired of this.....
Pure magic. No other Church lineup can compare

Heyday is the best
One of the truly great bands.
Pandora’s box did reveal a new surprise when I came across this version today. I loved The Church in the 80’s and this is awesome. Well done lads…
WOW! The best version of that song I've ever heard....better than the record. Does anyone know about the show itself? Is that the Sydney Opera House? WOW again!...stunningly great.
Nothing like the howl of a 12 string Rick with Marty behind the wheel
This is why Rolling Stone called them a "filthy landslide of guitars" years ago.
Why do I feel like I am listening to The Doors or INXS in concert. Awesome..........
I almost teared up.love this band.
Massive Melancholy moment the Boys still Bringing it hard...perfect collaboration .. the money shot...
Cheers to Marty Wilson Piper. Wish he would rejoin to be honest.
How great would it have been to be there and see/hear this live? Wow!
Love these guys so much. Worked here in the states with their US manager/promoter. Love the sleeveless conductor!

At the end I realized I was holding my breath. Wow.

Incredibili

Nice string section, were there any horns?
🥺
If the timing of..ahem... "everything" worked out....This might be the greatest sex song in the entire history of sex songs.
😎
Tim Powles is so cute
soon I hope
Still...he's not Richard.
Oooooooh
drummer almost blew his clacker valve 😁
Marty Wilson Piper was always this band.....
!!!!!!!
Never the same without Ploog ...
True, but Powles is still brilliant. There are times where he looks as though he is struggling to keep up but holds it altogether. A very different drummer than Ploog but I still really enjoy his playing.
Agreed 100%. Ploog was so damn aggressive and also played into between the lines. Shame that Steve shat on him.
Powles also said that he shouldn't be the drummer in the Church because he's so skilled and super-serial and such a great engineer and musician.
I can't stand the drumming post Ploog ... Powles does nothing for me.
I miss Richard like fucking crazy. I thought I was the only one with this opinion. Thank you. ♥
