- Came across a C8 ZR1 test mule while driving my Demon 170. This thing was amazing to see & hear in person with its twin turbo charged V-8, which sounds a lot like a flat plane crank like the Z06. Enjoy this video & keep in mind some exhaust sounds may be coming from the Demon & not the ZR1!
It’s literally gonna be a budget SF90. The engineering and economies of scale that GM has is insane.
Wrong the Zora is gonna be the Twin Turbo Hybrid. This is just TT V8

Yes! And I still can’t put my ear on that engine. Maybe a new engine also? I just can’t hear the regular 6.2 motor. I don’t think turbos change the sound that much. Don’t think it FPC either.

Great video, captures more than pretty much anything else we have seen so far.
We can see ZR1 wheels, if I'm not mistaken. The extra air intake opening behind the standard one is hidden under the camo wrap. The exhaust sounds like a half way between flat plane and cross plane V8.
They're definitely testing a ZR1 convertible.
And that sound usually comes from turbos on flat plane engines. Many 4cyl cars get deeper and throaty with a turbo instead of high pitched and trumpet like.

@@2020matrix8 Anything is possible, but you can hear a oversquare engine that is indicative of high revving flat plane crank engines. I still believe we have been observing two or MORE different variants and one of them is the upcoming grand sport that is rumored to come.

That's sounds very cross plane to me. But it might just be the turbos absorbing the whine of a flat plane .
I'm hoping it's a cross-plane. You need more torque and idle chops sounds with a cross-plane. Let's keep the Corvette as American as it should be, and not a European wannabe.

There have been multiple prototypes that, for one reason or another, didn’t see the light of day. The thought that the C8 is any less of a Corvette is an asinine one at best. C8 may not be for everyone, but it’s just as much a Corvette as any other. And even the Corvette team themselves have said that they had done everything they possibly could with the front-engined configuration AND that the C7 only existed in the way that it did because they were behind development on what we know today as the C8.
They are probably testing the drivetrain only and put it in a Z06 body. Great capture. I doubt this is the actual ZR1 body just a Z06 dummy car with the ZR1 drivetrain to see how it does on roads.
Not unless they are planning on putting that rear fenders duct on the Z06 as well. For now, that seems like a ZR1 exclusive feature.
It’s actually the body it’ll be in. Guess we’ll find out soon enough

I bet you anything Italian super car brands are very worried about the performance a GM vehicle is about to lay down for half the price.
They've been worried about that for the last decade. Just look up sales numbers of Corvettes compared to their competitors. They outsell the next 8 or so COMBINED and have an average transaction of over $100k. GM is making a lot of money from the Corvette.
The zr1 is gonna be expensive, hell the old c7s are still expensive
Those car brands are definitely not worried. People that want a Lambo or Ferrari also want the name, they wont cross-shop a Chevy. Now they may own both but a Chevy wouldnt replace the exotic brand.

Definitely a flat plane crank, wasn't sure if they were going to go the Shelby GT350/500 route or not and keep the displacement at 5.5, but use a cross plane crank and 2 turbochargers.

An engineer from the NCM bash said it wasn’t a flat plane crank because of warranty issues with the turbos. The reliability of a FPC and turbos..

Well you can already tell that it's not gonna look much different than the Z06, even looks to have a very similar front bumper. At least with the C7 you had an entirely different front fascia

Seems like they are gunna do something a little different this generation ZR1. Have a low wing/minimal aero option, medium aero option(Z07 aero), and a big aero option(historically ZTK option code)
It really does sound like the LT6 with a CPC. Going to be wicked that’s for sure.

sounnds like a p1...its def twiin turbo and probably has different cam profile and exhaust manifolds that change the pulse.
Big difference.. Corvette can go around corners.. Demons can barely go straight..

Cool, it’s going to look like the other 160,000 C8’s currently on the road. Seriously, get more aggressive with the styling on the upper C8 models to clearly distinguish them from Stingrays. I’m not hating on the C8, I currently have a C8Z but that’s always been the issue with them. They’re charging enough where new bumpers or tail lights rocker panels….something could be done
I agree. The Z06 should have looked different. and they sure as hell shouldn’t not have copied the Z06 with the Eray, they look identical unless you look in the front facia and see if the extra radiator that’s turned 180°.

@@nikosky4028 A muffled Z06 is what it sounded like. If you listen carefully at 2:55, as soon as the RPM builds up you'll hear the spooling
@Carsual I heard that. So it's probably going to be a fpc after all. You have the best evidence on TH-cam. Everyone is going to be using your video as it's the best evidence of what the zr1 will be. @@Carsual the Chevy teaser showed both twin turbos AND a twin screw supercharger disguised in the smoke. That is the “unthinkable” part. They are going to use both forms on the ZR1. It is in the new teaser video. It won’t be the 5.5 liter FPC engine though.

Its funny you say you saw THAT in the smoke but completely missed or ignored the gemini rocket that was also in the smoke. The same gemini rocket sign that is used for the LT6, but still say itll be 6.2 CPC and NOT 5.5 FPC. lol

well considering the engine is in the back, it prob wont have all that, just some vents and intakes by the splitter if anything
The ZR1 is going to have an S-Duct hood vent to balance out the aero/more air flow over radiators. What we dont know is if it completely sacrifices the frunk
This is most likely the less extreme ZR1. Chances are they are either offering a base & hardcore version or the S-duct bonnet is for the 1000HP Corvette Zora

I read the other day that the ZR1 is gonna have a twin turbo version of the LT5 Z06 engine but is it gonna be a little smaller displacement for the turbochargers or is it still a 5.5 liter?
LT6, LT5 is the Supercharged 6.2L from the C7 ZR1.

I wish we could bet on fpc vs cpc in Vegas. I’d put every dollar I’ve ever made on that NOT being a fpc. Would be cool yes but isn’t gonna happen. I’m (hopefully) guessing some new technology on a boosted 7.0 liter cpc with eray front drive.

Milford proving grounds. That is not the 5.5 fpc, have you ever heard one naturally aspirated? Gm does not know how to make exhaust for one that flows evenly let alone make a turbo work.

It was a real ZR1. If you turn the volume up you can hear a faint turbo spool. For sure it was very apparent in person

@@C8_Fever i think they are gonna do the same as the z06, low profile spoiler for the base trim, and the big wing in the performance package. for the z06 that was the z07, for the zr1, someone said that was the ztk package
