First time I have watched a show before you! I agree with everything you said, it was so good!
One best shows on Apple 2024
Glad to see you got around to watching this one. Farrell is great in this.
Sugar is a great show , waiting for more , i liked perry mason as well
I watched this week to week, overall I enjoyed it, Farrell's performance really makes it work. Classic noir elements with a twist that's totally out of left field, but it wasn't over played and by the end sets up a great premise for the next season.
_Memento_ is my favorite neo-noir.
Memento is excellent!!
How can it be "out of left field" when it was telegraphed literally from the first episode and especially loud and clear in the ep 3? Honestly, people need to pay attention while watching movies, you know, I can't imagine the frustration of the filmmakers who was carefully placing hints and clues here and there to make it more fun and engaging for the audience - and the audience was too busy staring at their phones to notice anything.
It came from “out of left field” like a shell game. We focus on the detective story. Remarks like I can never get drunk hearkens back to the classic neo noir detective line. We are oblivious to the nuggets because they are so deftly obscured. But you go ahead and pat yourself on the back. You’d be a phenomenal detective.
@@mgariepy42 I don't think the line "we are here just to observe" in the ep3 is obscured. It's exatly the moment when you're supposed to say, "wait, what? Who's we?" Also, the modern audience may not know the classic noir detective line well enough to recognise the reference. I bet another man who can't get drunk because of his unusual metabolism is more famliar to them, and his name is Steve Rogers. ;)
Great review! And thanks for no spoilers! While watching it I avoided online chat once I learned there was a twist. (Same with the upcoming film Trap) Why people want to spoil things for others is a mystery to me. Like telling a younger sibling what Santa brought him for Christmas. A sick mind.
That episode 6 "twist" was WILD
In a bad way
@@regismoura9630in a good way, I can’t wait for season 2 now
I looooved it. Gobsmacked. Yet, after all the online guesswork, none of it shocked like this! On rewatch, we found all the many clues that tied to the twist. Now bring on season 2! Where are Henry and Djen?!
Love this show!
Love your shirt! Series is excellent so far- not done yet. But so far I’m loving it! 🤠💕
I loved it, great show very well made
It is a remarkable tale of moral duty. CF is mesmerizing. The story is ultimately compelling.
spot on review
Thank you 👏👏👏
I thought to myself “no way they are $&@“)/“. Then that turned out to be true. Not sure how it didn’t get spoiled. I just finished the series. Still processing that turn but I enjoyed the show. Your review is spot on with how I came away feeling.
Inherent Vice is a good one!
I agree!
A 5/5. That's 10 on 10. Its so good ? Well I watched this series Mrs Davis. And it was great. I will check this to see how good it is. Apple TV does have great shows. Severance was really good.
take out the the specific twist the plot really reminds me of sin city movie and also they both are neo noir
Loved Sugar, as a Noir fan not enough around. This show was made for me. I'd have preferred no twist as the show was strong enough without it. More please.
Looks interesting.
This show is certainly the sleeper of the year. Nobody is watching it... And I didn’t see the twist coming AT ALL! For me it’s my 2nd favoutite Show of the year, after Shogun.
Colin says if nobody watches it it won’t get any more seasons. 😖 We need to find Henry and his sister!
Tell your friends
I watched this when it started, I finally got my husband to watch it and he freaked out lol.
Hahahaha! Was the freak out good or bad? I can see audiences going both ways in their reactions.
@@MoviesAndMunchies Oh it was good for sure lol
I liked it...
Did you like what they did with the twist in episode six? What is your thoughts about it?
I was knocked off my chair. Loooooved the twist. The hook Who IS John Sugar? Was an online guess quest. They MUST bring on a S2. S3. Etc!
@@mgariepy42 very true, you are right.
Am I the only one who thinks its weird that so many movies are made by Hollywood, made ABOUT Hollywood? Fallguy: the love interst is a director. This show: the daughter of a producer... Its like half of all movies are about Hollywood. WTF mate?
I watched it every time a new episode came out. A great TV series.
The big question is when will you FINALLY review 'The Great' and why do you ignore this question, every time I ask you? ;)
I won't be reviewing The Great. Didn't realize I was ignoring... I do my best to see all the comments 😊
@@MoviesAndMunchies You don't have to review it, but honestly speaking, Season 3 shows you grief like you've never seen in your life. It's exceptional. I highly recommend you to watch a few episodes, you've never seen anything like this.
It is a pity that in your reviews you don't go into the problems of the pieces. What they are really about, what they want to convey.
"Sugar" is an ideal series for such deeper analysis, because the twist that the creators used is a very conscious effort to emphasize the protagonist's loneliness in a foreign city and his attempts to understand other people.
This is a very interesting trick, which on the surface seems to be just a twist and a play with convention, but upon further reflection it is something much more. Something much more interesting.
Just like the perception of reality through the prism of films that Sugar cultivates. Viewing the world through the eyes of fiction and recreating it in an uninterrupted acting role played in front of everyone else.
That's very deep. I never thought about it this way.
That plot twist was spoiled for me beforehand, and actually that's why I started to watch "Sugar." And knowing this big secret I was able to appreciate the character much, much more. If you know who he is you can see his pain and his love and his incredibly kind heart every second. It's so much more moving this way.
@@josefshopovich7584 I loved the rewatch, too. Followed the crumbs then. But ignoring posts that claimed to know the twist made me thrilled to see it 🤯in E6. Such a novel twist to the normal neo noir detective story.
I still have 3 episodes left. I'm definitely not a fan of the video editing (tight framing on faces, the video and audio being intentionally out of synch) I know that is part of the genre/style ... but I just found it annoying and unnecessary. I might feel differently with the concluding 3 episodes, but to me this is a middle of the road private investigator story.
I understand what this show is going for.. but it misses the mark. The overuse of cut scenes, odd camera angles and weak dialogue makes it fall short. Go watch Bosch or Rockford Files instead.
The twist ruined the show for me
I found the « twist » totally far-fetched, borderline stupid. It ruined the show for me.
You take yourself too seriously. Stick to Columbo
@@Questioneverythingg730 how irrelevant and dull can one's comment be? Looks like you're drawing new boundaries in that regard.
@@rhk4680 equally as relevant and dull as your original comment that no one seems to share.
@@Questioneverythingg730 You're so full of courage behind your screen. Maybe you should learn how to write properly for a start. Comments are the place where people share their opinion, not shit on others'. Mine was this series is stupid, but I guess that's precisely why you liked it.
@@rhk4680 your right 🙏Columbo was better.
