Chatting up locals in a RANDOM Mexican town // AMECA

  • I went to Ameca and chatted up some very friendly locals asking them what they like about living in their town. Ameca is an hour and 15 minutes outside of Guadalajara and has about 50,000 people living there. There's nothing touristy about this random Mexican town but that's why I love it. I get to see what the real Mexico is like away from the polished tourist destinations. If you're living in Mexico, planning to move here or have a trip scheduled be sure to check out a local random town while you're here and visit the real Mexico.

The man who appears at 12:10 is my father. He lived in Mexico with my godfather and I hadn't seen him for many years... Last year he came to Brazil to live with me, and unfortunately he passed away suddenly a few months later... Unfortunately I couldn't live long with my father and it's a wound that never heals..
I found this video a long time ago and showed it to him, I remember we had fun watching... today I came back here to remember and see my father a little...
    Thanks for registering

I also lived in Ameca until I was 4 and then moved to the San Fernando Valley about 30 miles North of Los Angeles. Jose Antonio Vallejo was my grandfather and well known. My parents and I would visit once a year or so, we would drive to Puerto Vallarta or Guadalajara for a day vacation. Thank you for posting.

When I was 12 years old. My family moved to Ameca from the U.S. it was nice back then. Hardly any crime. 30 years later. Wow, totally different. The traffic is horrible. Criminals walk all around. Do not like it at all. I usually stay at a near by ranch when I visit.

Next time go to “La casa de la Cultura” and talk to someone that can share with you a little bit of the History of the town, El Chavarin, and other tales about the town, the church, the volcano outside the church, the tunnels, Haciendas. There is a-lot to my little home town where I lived the best years of my childhood. Ameca has a lot to offer besides just looking at the buildings 😉! All that sugar cane goes to pajaretes in the morning with fresh milk hahaha . Go to the rural towns in jalisco and ask about pajaretes especially in that area colibri. Most of the people drink it every morning ita either sugarcane alcohol or tequila.

You missed some of the other highlights from Ameca, such as the other Catholic churches, around town, some popular locations where locals and young residents gather, the grand entrance and the soccer youth culture. But it seems like you were just passing through the town for a couple hours.

Those tortillas were HUGE! Not normal and special size de Ameca. Each zone throughout the republic have different flavored maza. I like to try the different tortillas and tacos from all around. Maybe had you done a little introduction with the man in the meat shop, he would not have been so startled. He couldn’t tell if you were a news reporter or what you wanted and didn’t want any trouble for speaking.

You didn't ask me but I'm watching from Tacacorí, Alajuela Province, Cost Rica. At the very foot of Poás Volcano in a little town that has 3 small supermarkets, a butcher shop, 1 restaurant/bar, a church, a grade and jr. high school, and a plant nursery. Very calm. Only 12 minutes by car from Alajuela town, which is where the international airport is located. It's sunny and 84 degrees today and the country is rationing water because of the tail end of dry season.

@@colibritravel5994 Did I lose my reply? I've been here 22 years and am a dual CR / US citizen. I translate written documents from Spanish to English and make a decent middle class living doing it. I'm lurking on this and other sites to check out a place to live to retire that is less expensive and more cosmopolitan than CR. Also larger. You and I have sent messages back and forth before through the GDL expat FB page. I'm gay, too.

@@stevekollen1672 yeah it's so weird.. Sometimes I'll see a comment in the notifications then go to respond and it's gone. It's happened before and kind of frustrating. That's cool about the translating, I've thought of getting into that in the past. As I'm sure you're finding out, there are so many options in Mexico. I hope my videos are giving you at least a glimpse of what Mexico can be like. If you can, I'd ask you to consider supporting these videos on patreon. No amount is too small, a little goes a long way, and as a patron you get first crack at telling me where to go and what to check out. Keep my posted on your relocation etc.. ¡Saludos!
