Everyone situation is different. Not everyone's got a nice dad. It's sad but that's life. My dad was abusive. We left home when I was 5yo. Its been over 20 years and I haven't seen my dad ever since and I don't want to. Life is much better & happier now. But you can still like the song. Just don't relate to the lyrics. Listen & feel the song 🫠

I believe not all parents deserve to be parents, I'll consider myself lucky to have a old school mom who looks after everyone and a dad who's the pillar and glue of the family. I'm adopted but not all adopted young kids find good home either. Im happy you moved on with life, I'm 20 as well and still going strong, I wish u good life too

SM literally blackmailed Kyungsoo since 2018. They were like, "You have to renew the contract with us like the other members, or you will get fewer and fewer parts in EXO." So that's why it took forever for Kyungsoo to finally have a solo album debut in 2021 even tho he's the main vocalist but it also unfortunaltely meant that SM didn't let him promote the album at all... no performance, live show, or variety shows.. none.. Kyungsoo sacrificed so much for year, so I'm so happy he's finally free and look he's thriving so much! He released his third solo album immediately after parting with SM& he's already talking about his fourth solo album while doing an Asia tour and also filming for his new drama.
I watched a ton of reactions when this came out. Dad was the song that sparked the most reactions. I think it is cathartic no matter how you feel about your Dad. After he was on Palette and IU mentioned how hard his songs were to sing I checked out a bunch of covers on TH-cam. She is so right. I have never flinched so much listening to people sing.

It’s not just about the pitch and hitting the notes (which many already cant do perfectly), it’s the actual technique, the fullness, richness, the runs and the riffs, the control, the stylistic choices, and most importantly, the emotion and sincerity (even with silly or lighthearted lyrics). They are able to immediately convey any mood and the genre so well. Even with such accomplished singers as IU or Lee Mujin, to me Kyungsoo is just a head and shoulders above them with the clarity, tone, quality, the sincerity, I cOuld go on and onnn

Dad is my fav song. Even tho I don't relate to the lyrics of Dad as my dad lives separately and I hate him soo much. But... I will always recommend Dad to people bcs it could be relatable to them. I love Dad. Beautiful lyrics. Also he wrote the Korean lyric for Rose. The English version is the original version of the song. He only did a small part live at his recent fancon, for instance, just now in Japan. He also did an acapella version on bubble when this was released. But he never got to promote or perform any of the songs from his album. Not sure if it was due to SM or due to him going straight to filming The Moon.
Empathy brings a sting in our memory as Kyungsoo fans(dandanies), its too long overdue die his long battle with SM. SM have had cut his part shorter and shorter for the past years as a main vocalist, he never gotten anything that his bandmates got, no ost, no gigs, no festivals, no featuring as a himself. The album was relased during Olympic where no music show, he wasnt promoted, nothing but the album still successful, still the top solo album released by sm till now, it eas charting well despite no promotion, good streaming numbers till today too. He carried it himself with all the blockage sm did to him that time. Its a bitter sweet memories to all of us. The fact Ksoo only got to sing rose and IGLY during his bjrthday party in 2023. Im glad he left sm and managed to finally sing IGLY during his fancon
One thing i want to share my opinion about the song "Dad"... This song is like a song about a Dad from son POV. Its like a song about a Mom from daughter POV. Thats why its more resonate to man when they listen to the song. A Dad rarely have a lovey dovey talk to their son.. its more a silent talk. But the son will look up to their father a lot (if they have a good father ofc). Many father rarely show their feeling and the weight on his shoulder to their family, they too, give more pressure to their son than their daughter. Many of the son feel why my father push me so hard. But, when the son grow and became adult, they now realized what their father have to faced to raise them, how much burden they carried and how many emotion they hide. So this song for all GOOD FATHER in the world from their son. I am sure some of us didn't got this luck to have a good father like Kyungsoo. Thats why not all of us could relate or resonate to this song. And for me personally, even tho i didn't have an amazing father but this song still touch me emotionally coz i have 3 sons and my husband is a very amazing father to them. i hope someday my sons will look up to their dan and understand how good their dad raised them so they too will be a good dad to their children later ❤
