IF you want to ask a question for next month, pop it below!
Ive been been watching your videos last few weeks and was wondering if you could breakdown your studio costs, and what you would recommend in terms of getting your first studio for commercial shooting in the UK? Thank you for all your doing for the community, these videos are a cut above the rest!
Tilt shift 85mm or cambo atus (i got 2*d850) for product photogtaphy?
Cambo setup for me is 3-4k$cad, tilt shift 1k used on Ebay. I saw all your content but i cant find anywhere to rent both and see if i can justify for now the cambo premium.
Thanks for your amazing content
What do you think about photography certifications such as the one from PPA and others from independent educators?
what is your biggest influence to photography from art (paint) ? hope it makes sense, i am not a native English speaker :)
Whats your take on the somewhat cliche 'work smarter not harder' phase? (primarily in relation to commercial photography, but maybe other matters too).
Success on TH-cam is not about likes or the number of subscribers. To me it’s about quality. Are people learning from you, are you opening people’s minds, are you inspiring people? Sir, you definitely are.❤
Always enjoy your no BS photography perspective. Keep up the great videos.
Hello, I was a primary school teacher for over 17 years , both as a permanent teacher and as a supply teacher - I spent my most of teaching career teaching in what some teachers might say were challenging schools - I was not always a teacher and before I worked in the city for a number of years - I love photography and since I took early retirement, I have been able to peruse my passion for photography. I have watched your TH-cam channel from the beginning. For what it is worth, you are an inspiration to me and I truly appreciate your candour, honesty and the content you provide. I am sure there are many other people who also are inspired by your knowledge and frankness. I am very grateful for what you share and can only hope you will keep doing what you do, as I am sure many photographers other than myself appreciate and value the information you provide. Thank you.
Listen, if people aren’t hating on you then you’re doing something wrong-people are only bothered by successful people-not the mediocre ones, so good on you that you are doing well. Keep up the good work, you do you-and your subscribers and people who hire you to do work for them appreciate you.
I’m never going to be a commercial photographer, but my reason for watching your channel is that I find it interesting and informative. I also like the fact that you do lots of test shots then gradually move towards your final version. That is now something I try to do when circumstances permit.
Im a big fan of grainydays and photographic eye, they have really refreshed my drive recently, especially cracking out the film cameras whenever I have the chance, very fun
Well I think you have achieved what you were looking to do. Thank you for everything you’ve done so far you’ve helped me grow as a photographer over the last 2 years more then I could express through a comment.
So… Thank you.
Great fun and insightful as always. Thanks Scott.
You're always an inspiration, Scott. Thank you once again.
Uh! The Photographic Eye!
Great youtube recommendations.
Great video, love the way your advice cuts through the BS. Great insights there, thanks for sharing.
another great video. no b/s, straight honest answers, definitely a must watch channel.
I’m sure some of the questions are top not nonsense 😂because nobody likes anything on the internet! Always enjoy the channel sir!
Another batch of tough love and brutal facts from Scott... love it every time.
Excellent video, concise, straightforward and very informative. You're a fabulous teacher (and photographer I'm sure)! Thanks
Great video and advice. Shame about the location question. This is why a lot of smaller cities are dying and large cities are becoming too congested and expensive. Something needs to change, as it's not sustainable in the long run.
Agreed! There is photographic beauty everywhere that deserves the caliber of attention the cities get,
Thank you for mentioning the 5D MKII ! I asked this as a question. I bought one last July, and I am forcing myself to get good pictures with it! I have been taking pictures since the mid 80s on film until now. I love photography!
Fantastic stuff!!! Keep it going!!!
You content is not really all that relevant to me / my situation. But, I still dig watching you cos you're entertaining, informative and, well, stuff like that. 😁
thanks for this informative issue. enjoyed watching ...and all your videos informative and with good thoughts
I loved the shaved head look!
Great insights! Thanks!
I like you no bs straight to the point information. Love the videos
Sadly, nobody can shoot on Kodachrome anymore. All the development plants are shut down. If you have old stock there are some ways to B&W process it. Kodachrome 64 was my absolute favorite. I miss it.
Ha...funny to hear about your Romanian Rescue dog! I have one too. Beautiful dog, but a bit of a rascal! Trained her really well in most regards, except, strangers! She is an utter liability currently when it comes to strange men. Had quite a lot of issues with her on that front, but we are getting her there gradually. I can basically now just get her to sit and stay now, but I have to "guest manage" and make sure the guest just leaves her alone. The other Q&A was interesting, and the first few, very funny. Love how you basically said "Look, I get paid a lot by high end clients - so go away". Nicely done
You made me laugh! Little people having a pop at you? - I once tried to sell marketing services to a couple of advertising agencies. They would offer me a cup of coffee. Then the guy would get out a packet of cigarettes and ask if I minded him smoking. "If you were a client I wouldn't, but as it is you." He then unpeeled the cellophane wrapper, and dropped it in my coffee cup! Then he lounged back in his chair and said "sell me!" The second time it happend. as soon as he got out the cigarette packet, I put my hand over the cup and pulled ir towards me. The guy knew I knew. Nah, don't worry about the snotty kids comments. You are cutting it in the real world. They would go home crying. Good for you.
Love your work, Scott. You can see the influence you made on me in my work. You and Karl Taylor seem to be the biggest influence on my work.
LOL, I quite enjoyed this video, in a humourous way. "You suck...!" People can be daft not to mention incredibly rude. You are one of my go-to TH-camrs as I quite enjoy your banter, humour, and knowledge. Thanks.
What an awesome awesome video
Shout out the F1! One of our favourite film SLRs.
Great video🙏 massive likes for “advices” opinion, for TH-cam faves and for Democratic Forest reminder🎉
Crazy people would say "your work sucks" when you clearly have found a style that works for you and your clients. Dollars-to-donuts (as we say here in the US) these people criticizing your work take pictures of seagulls on a post or "boudoir" pics..... Of course what people respond to and like is ultimately subjective but I can see your talent...btw, I was for many years, prior to becoming a full-time commercial photographer, a director of photography so I think I have a pretty good ability to analyze someone's work and style...
"Free advice is worth its price: nothing."
15:20 that is what I'm doing still. I use all my annual leave days for photography. Thankfully for now I'm still able to balance work and photography and I maintain my energy. I noticed that photography is exhausting me only physically but mentally I'm perfect. My 9 to 5 desk job is only making me fat and mentally exhausted :D I guess for now photography is also a therapy in a way, plus I get to travel the world doing what I love. So definitely an advocate to use vacation days until you no longer can.
I really Luv Photography @ 72yo I jave been shooting since 13yo photojournalist @16yo for nearly 30yrs then freelance, and still documenting life and many projects and travel photography!!! I really like TH-cam as a resource... BUT as You said if someone is successful then they will not share!!!!!!!!! When I came across You I was suspicious (many photogs act cool and want to put out that they are so very successful)............... BUT I really enjoy Your Channel!!!!!!
RE: Canon's F-1: have you considered their Speed Finder? It's a convertible waist- and eye-level viewfinder, and why I kept using the F-1 even after I got a T-90 (autowinder, auto-lots-of-stuff, 1/250 sync...) Just twist, and you get the other view.
You’ve crushed my dream,
David, Arse end of nowhere
Commercial product photography is a very specialised niche market. Wedding photography is saturated with mediocrity. So its becoming harder to find a specialty that will earn you a living. After a career in press photography I am moving to high fashion editorial studio photography. At 73 I am effectively starting again. I am lucky that I have a pension to pay the bills.
The moment you think your work doesn't suck is the moment it does.
What about Alan Schaller dear ol' Scotty? Come on man. Complete London Ponce that pays the bills with due cause and reason.
How many other photographers do your team members work for? If it is a lot how do you make sure you always have your "A" team?
Sorry you seem to get a lot of hate, but jealousy and envy are powerful emotions and there is a lot of it out there! Thanks for your videos.
Aha! Somehow I knew you were an Eggleston fan.
YEY!! ETRS
YEY!! 5D Mk2!!
Question about agent negotiations. I normally give people the benefit of the doubt, but how to you know and/or prevent an agent from taking advantage of you? Example: He negotiates for paid work, say $10,000 for a campaign, but tells you $8,000 and you still end up paying his fee (normally 20% and he pockets $2,000 he didn't tell you about). Do you get documentation from client to prevent this from happening?
It’s a system that’s open to abuse from both sides, there has to be trust there for it to work
TH-cam is far too time-consuming for me. Otherwise I’d contribute. Maybe one day. Thaks for sharing your knowledge.
I was not able to be on the live session so feel free to ignore my question, or answer next month. I understand why you went with Fuji however, wouldn't you have been able to find a equivalent, by that I mean a not outrageously more expensive, Hasselblad set up, that would be easier to work with? Thanks,
Nope
how many tethering cables have you burnt thru. =P
I would never recommend anybody getting into photography, I also don’t recommend them to make any TH-cam channels, I don’t need the competition,
look up James Quantz Jr - epic commercial / sports portraits
What are the tennis balls on your tripods for?
For not scratching an expensive floor when shooting on a expensive location 😉
@@TheExtralarzthanks!
Timestamps for myself
4:17 other TH-cam channels
the blue clothes suit you
Eggleston "probably still uses Kodachrome"?
I reckon he has the machine and Chems all in storage. If I had his money I would have done when Dwayne’s stopped.
Did you mean Emma Chamberlain?
I love it... I saw your video title card "You Suck!" and I almost got riled up till reality sunk in, and I was then under my breath like...... "I dont suck, you suck!" lol!
Your hair and your clothes... Seriously? I'm a data-gathering geek and I've noted that on average about 3% of views will actually hit the "Like", I think it's selfish, rude, and typical of our ingratitude times. It reminds me of graduate school where a couple fellow Ph.D. students said that they never give a professor a perfect evaluation--but of course, they expected it for themselves. I enjoy your channel, there are a couple TH-cam channels that have HUGE subscriber numbers whose photography is subpar--and that's being REALLY kind.
I hate to say this, but color grading in this video seems really off.
You're the kind that farts in church...geez have some class
good enough for youtube though
But not up to his usual standard. @@dallaswhitley5936
