@@NicholasVetter-sy8io I made sure to always look out for the band members, some low life bench riders would always have the ego to check band members but we made sure to check them back. Y'all are the ones who hype up not only us but our moms and dads cheering in the stands. So really, thank yall!
my sons journey to the cadets started in2004 when he was12......we watched the cadets 2000 show and even at that age he new he had to do this. he started playing a trumpet when he was 5 years old and has never wanted to play another instrument.when he started work his thoughts were never far away from dci.....he liked blue devils but also cadets.....he worked hard and saved everyweek, even when his friends came knocking he would stay at home just to save that extra cash. when the time came to make a decision it was the cadets that won. dan then had enough money to pay for his flights to the camp in dec 11 for his weekend audition, with all his family waiting at home for the decision to come on whether he made the cut or not, well he did and when he came back a few days later he was so made up.dan was offered the chance to stay on after Aprils camp so he could save on flight money but tyhis meant that he would have to apply for a visa as hie esta would only allow him to stay in the states for 90 days,not wanting to break any laws applied at the us embassy in London but that's when the nightmare began......they turned him down and as a result had his esta revoked thus ending dans dream in a stroke.they didn't believe dan was going to the states just to play a trumpet !!!!.....having paid for his flights dan lost all his money. as a parent watching your sons dream taken away for no apparent reason and having to watch him sink was not great.......but for all the phone calls and letters it was not meant to be.......we had one last chance befor he aged out and that was to wait a year and then re apply for visa. with a whole year of constent ups and down ,tears and rows the time finally came to go to the us embassy in London and try for the final time.....we got all the info he needed even a drum corps 2012 yearbook, I watched him go into the embassy knowing that his whole dream was going to be decided in the next hour and there was nothing we could do....I waited in a café on the corner for dan.....after what seemed a lifetime of trying to guess what state he was going to be in if they turned him down again I knew I would have to be strong for him.....dan soon appeared as he walked into the café his head bowed I thought the worst. and started to sink myself....then he lifted his head to show the biggest smile across any face I had ever seen ....with the words I got one I just grabbed him and sobbed like a baby.....well we walked along regent street calling everyone that was waiting for his news........so dan marched cadets 2013 and had the greatest time ever in his drum corps career.......so don't ever give up trying to achieve your dream......the cadets are the best thing that has happened to my son so don't miss out .......go march cadets 2014 !!!!!! with the people you will meet and the amazing troop of people that look after you it will be your greatest ever summer........to all that have read this far thanks I know it was long winded but felt after reading some of the replys on here it had to be said.........go cadets !!! much love jimmy.
Let me share this with you.... The most powerful action in the universe is a DECISION. If you trace the word back to the Latin origin, decidere, it literally means "to cut". Back in August 2006 I made a decision to be a Cadet. I imagined myself wearing the Maroon and Gold, marching the contra, I kept watching all the old shows over and over again, imagining myself in that show. Now even though I didn't have the distance like you do, I didn't have the money to do it...
The fees are very manageable and many cadets march for free because they take advantage of the sponsorship, scholarship and fundraising opportunities available to them!
For those who want it bad enough, part-time work and family/friend sponsherships can cover the cost. Although drum corps is enjoyable there are a few people each year that invest all of their time and money into it only to wind up hating it and quitting. You have to ask yourself if rehearsing 10+ hours a day, getting criticized by staff members, and sleeping on floors isn't too much for you. I've found that for me the pros outway the cons.
J. St.Valle some corps offer fundraising i myself went out to buisnesses and tried to get a sponsor they like it because its a tax cut for them and you can get multiple ones or a big one. Corps offer payment plans as well.
I am a football player.. and i know this may sound crazy.. but i have mad respect for band members, you guys are soldiers. mad respect🤟🏼
