This always makes laugh because when they say barkless dogs, they don't mean quite dogs. It just means they don't bark like a normal type of bark that most other dogs do, they yodel and howl like in this video.

I had an on call pager (yes I am that old) with my second Basenji. He would grab it off the night stand and stuff it in the couch if it went off at night because he knew I would have to leave him to answer the call. Try explaining that to your boss.

Actually they only do this when my cell goes off and with certain music, tones or singing. We cannot leave HGTV on while gone because the theme song of Divine Design really gets them going and they love the echo in the stairwell! So we let them watch c-span.Its pretty low key. They are very quiet normally and of course they are barkless.

Just be prepared to spend a lot of extra time working with it and learn to have a lot of patience. And of the two we've had, neither got along with our other dogs.
SO FUNNY INDEED!!! lol..!! my best friend owns a female basenji, she's the cutest thing, but very elusive, kind of growls at me for some unknown reason, I can't resist her cute face...she's chewed every piece of wood furniture at my friends house!!! she has the sharpest teeth...soooo adorable I would love to own one...but I know I'll go crazy...

And no they only howl at certain music, tones and if they hear us outside they sometimes think its cute to get in the stairway and howl!

I've had a basenji mix since I was 10. She makes these noises and she can bark. Yay for me, I got the best of both. Haha, I love her anyway.
