Other Tagalos call this very fruit BALIMBING.
Politicians are colloquially called balimbing because of their many facets/faces.
In my country we called it Bling Bling we make a sauce with hot peppers and eat it with Bara and pulori make with dall and flour.

Blimbi fruit is so sour. That's why she use plenty of sugar. I normally wash, dry them n put in d freezer. Chuck 3 or 4 of it in my cooking which call for something sour to balance it's taste.

In Malaysia we called it Belimbing Buluh (buluh is bamboo, and we also called starfruit as Belimbing too). It’s used mainly for special dishes such as in tuna curry.
I thing "buluh" from Javanese word "wuluh" that pronounced "buluh". "Buluh" that has meaning bamboo it's from ind malay word. So u called it belimbing buluh or belimbing wuluh not the sama "belimbing bamboo".
Ya,you also can boiled it with slat and sugar, nice when having it w rice.
