Basketball was invented by James Naiesmith a Canadian Physical Education teacher, that moved to Kansas, and there he both wrote the rules to basketball and created the University of Kansas Basketball Program. For years, the Canadian Football League, played a game based on rugby, with different rules allowing the ball to be kicked and carried while running. Yes, fighting is legal in hockey and the refs will not stop it until they are off their feet. If they both go down fighting the refs will stop it. The only sport in the world that has bare knuckle brawling! Its popularity is biggest in Canada and Russia. American Football is the most popular in the States. I love hockey, and my team is the Detroit Red Wings. If you decide to watch it wait for The Stanley Cup Playoffs. The NHL has the best players from a lot of different Countries. It’s what every hockey players goal in life is to make it to the NHL.
Hockey is popular in North America and Europe. In No America, it is more popular in Canada than USA but because of its smaller population, there are fewer NHL (top pro level) teams than in the US. It it way more “beautiful” than soccer for three main reasons. 1. The pace is non-stop. The pick is always moving and threats on the goal occur every minute. The game is electric. 2. The players move at speeds much, much faster than people can run. 3. The players are tougher than you can imagine. Very few have all their teeth. The can get a 5 inch cut, go to the locker room while play continues and come back and join the game in about 5-10 minutes. As far as fights, the players regulate each others conduct by fights. Get out of line and the gloves will drop. Usually both players will get either a 2 minute penalty for roughing or 5 minute penalty for fighting.
Ok so to explain You are not really allowed to use your hands unless you are the goalie (like futbol) However, what you are allowed to do, is to grab the puck mid air and drop it at your feet. Basically you're not allowed to hold onto the puck, and youre notallowed to pass it to another player, but if you pass it to yourself its fine
You're also allowed to bat it away if you're in your defensive end, but absolutely can't close you hand on it. You can't actually (technically) grab the puck out of the air, but you can put your hand up to kind of slow it down and then let it drop behind you. The general rule is you can't move the puck forward using your hands and only the goalie can close their hands over the puck.
You grew up on football (soccer) so it is going to be more exciting for you to watch, just as hockey is more exciting for many Canadians who grew up on the sport.
@@MBDTalk Most fights start with the ritual of each player dropping his gloves indicating they are willing to fight. If challenged a player will likely oblige and fight rather than look weak in front of his teammates. Referees will generally back off and let them fight (especially when the heavyweights are fighting). Once they start to tire, the referees will step in and separate them. Major fines and/or suspensions occurs when a hockey player inadvertently or intentionally hits a referee in any fight. You may also get an extra 2 minute penalty for being the instigator of a fight.
Compared to hockey soccer (football) is boring. In hockey it is a very fast game with lots of action, again soccer is boring in this way. Watch a full game, the playoffs are just about to start and if you want to see an incredibly entertaining sporting event watch any playoff game. I recommend Leafs vs Lightning for a super fast highly skilled game, first round.

@@MBDTalk Ya Canada is huge and spread out with only 35 million people, US being a powerhouse and 350+ million they can handle a bunch of teams easier ha. But hockey is "Canadas sport" so to say so we are the best at it as we probably have the most love for it.
Hockey in North America is generally ice hockey. You would say field hockey if played on grass.
I’m kinda getting into it
"The referee is there! He's not doing anything!?" Uhh... you wanna get in between two guys throwing fists? I don't.
I mean… if it’s his job then🤷🏽♂️…look at boxing (ufc-mma)
Check out the “code”
Is that about the rules and regulations for Hockey?
@MBDTalk the code video is for how fighting works but there is a youtube video on the rules aswell but its basically soccer on ice
I’m a huge soccer fan but judging by what I’ve seen so far I can’t argue with that🤷🏽♂️
Ok so to explain
You are not really allowed to use your hands unless you are the goalie (like futbol)
However, what you are allowed to do, is to grab the puck mid air and drop it at your feet. Basically you're not allowed to hold onto the puck, and youre notallowed to pass it to another player, but if you pass it to yourself its fine
I see. Thanks for that!
Finally someone who understands! Thank you.
Fights are a major part of the game. You get penalized 5 minutes, but so does the other guy.
Even if he didn’t instigate it?
@@MBDTalk Most fights start with the ritual of each player dropping his gloves indicating they are willing to fight. If challenged a player will likely oblige and fight rather than look weak in front of his teammates. Referees will generally back off and let them fight (especially when the heavyweights are fighting). Once they start to tire, the referees will step in and separate them. Major fines and/or suspensions occurs when a hockey player inadvertently or intentionally hits a referee in any fight. You may also get an extra 2 minute penalty for being the instigator of a fight.
React to oveckin he Is One of the best players i think
Will do, I’ll put him on the list
Compared to hockey soccer (football) is boring. In hockey it is a very fast game with lots of action, again soccer is boring in this way. Watch a full game, the playoffs are just about to start and if you want to see an incredibly entertaining sporting event watch any playoff game. I recommend Leafs vs Lightning for a super fast highly skilled game, first round.
I'm hoping the Leafs make it past the first round.
Agree to disagree that football is boring compare to which ever other sport but yeah hockey is pretty exciting with the fights and all
ice hockey is what the Americans call it, Canadians just say hockey.
I've never heard an American call it ice hockey. But then again, I also grew up in Minnesota, which is kind of South Canada.
@@PaulGuy just watch any non-Canadian in any media and they will say ice hockey. Minnesota media is not that isolated, seems just you.
It is 90+% the same game and rules as football (soccer).
You need to watch a real game at real speed to get an idea of the speed.
Do a "Connor Mcdavid reaction" video next.... you will be impressed
After the “code” video👍🏽
Rugby
Bullshit, we don't wear short pants and knee socks in CANADIAN HOCKEY + we can drop em and go at it a seconds notice full on bare knuckles, NOTHING COMPARES
Stanley cup the Oldest trophy in sports!!!
Is that the NHL trophy’s name?
@@MBDTalk yup each year they have a playoffs at the end of the season for who wins the Stanley Cup and the winning team has their names etched into the side of it
