Do you guys know how much quality work is put into these kind of things? If this was the early 80's this technology and quality would cost 50 grand. We are very lucky to have things like this be only a couple hundred dollars.
Blade Runner 2049 synths: 1:14 , 2:08 , 3:10 (I believe this is the main synth from seawall) , 4:38 , 6:40 , 9:10 (One of the main ones from the soundtrack)
You can do anything with this synth. It was the first soft synth to convince me that software can not only compete but exceed hardware. Now its so efficient also with the increase in computer power.
You're just begging for some hardware snob to come and troll you with delirious rants about "warmth" and stuff... I got Z2+HZ about 4 months ago. The new HZ does indeed include many extras, and the combo was worth every penny to me. It's the only VST I've ever paid full price for, but I was more than willing. I will probably be fiddling with this great synth for the rest of my life. And yes, especially these days it is VERY light on the CPU compared to other power-synths. Do I sound like a commercial? I don't care, this is a must-have VST. I'd say Spire can do some more beautiful sounds, and these two are basically all I use these days, but Zebra HZ would be my desert-island synth...it's just so incredibly capable!
hardware =/= analog. Plenty of modern and classic hardware is built on digital signal processing. There's still an advantage to using hardware units over vsts in that their processors (unlike the CPU in a general purpose computer) are specifically built to optimize things like floating point arithmetic that dsp relies heavily on. It clearly seems like u-he have developed cleaver algorithms that get great sounds without just relying on brute force dsp and I applaud them for that. Also a digital synth will never sound totally like an analog synth. There's just too many variables. VA technology has gotten pretty sophisticated but I think it's kind of a losing battle. If you want an analog sound why not just use an analog synth? I prefer digital synths like the Zebra or DX7 that aren't trying to be analog at all.
I wouldn't say anything, the karplus strong style synthesis is extremely limited, no feedback loops, all you have are the preset comb filters. Also no granular synthesis. But mainly, the lack of feedback loops is what really limits this synth
Plugmon's Massive Modular GUI redesign has really got me into learning everything in Zebra HZ I've had coffee fed direct into my arm for the last three days. It's how I hoped Zebra 3 would look and function.
Better results? You know that these are the actual presets that Hans Zimmer is using on the Batman trilogy and Inception. Made by Howard Scarr and mr. Zimmer himselfes.
god I love this one so much. Especially since its very easy to edit the ARP and make a few quick changes, and you have a brand new sound thats fucking beautiful.
No, it's Howard Scarr. He's a synth programmer who worked with Zimmer on movies like Inception and the Batman trilogy, designing Zebra sounds for him. Many of Zebra's 'default' presets are also designed by him, I believe.
Years upon years of experience, reading up on technique, deconstructing patches made by professional sound designers, etc. I imagine one could learn a whole hell of a lot of synthesis techniques by deconstructing the patches in this bank.
Thank you so much! Another sound which I thought was amazing was the one when joker jumped into the car in the prologue... just fantastic sounds! You did an amazing job there!
Just bought Zebra2 & The Dark Zebra from a fellow KVR member. :) All I can picture in my head when I listen to this is someone saying, "Bane, do you like the sounds of Dark Zebra?" Bane: "Of Course!"
In most cases I'd be buying this just for the modded Zebra version, as I don't use presets in general, but I think looking thru these sounds is going to teach me a thing or two about Zebra and synthesis in general. In fact I think I learned a few things just looking at this clip :)
Thats why i mention Howard Scarr :). Not to start a fight at all, but the Zebra softsynth is extremely flexible. I thought you ment you could make patches that are closer to the Zimmer patches with another synth :) This IS the orginal HZ patches that he used in those movies. Cheers mate
It's still a superb purchase though. Combination of Zebra's engine with Diva's lush sounding filters is the dream synth. Even if you ignore the special presets alltogether, its worth the upgrade price alone just for that!
ok i asked a friend about zebra vst's he said they were trash so i go and down load the free demo and was like he was a lie and trying to hide it from me it sound's great and i will be purchasing the full version.
Do I have to have Zebra 2 to use this? Also, would this be a good alternative to Omnisphere? I've been wanting to create some trailer sounding booms/horns/pulses etc and Zebra 2 is much cheaper than Omnisphere. Thanks.
+Kurt Tomlinson | Compositions You need Zebra Also I would recommend Plugmon's Massive Modular GUI for Zebra HZ. I have Omnisphere I only use it for the acustic sounds for the rest I use u-he synths.
Hey guys at U-He, can you explain a little more on the Diva filters in zebra2HZ and im guessing we wont see them In Zebra 3? I might just have to Invest in zebra to get zebra2HZ just cos the Diva's timbres, filters and sound so awesome but I just love the modulation involved in this.
Yeah totally true. But speaking for myselfes, beeing a movie nerd and a musican, its just cool to have fun with those patches :) and theres some really nice usefull sounds there too. Ive used all kinds of softsynths since Model-E and Zebra rules them all :) Whats your favorite?
Get it right then release. Your synths are universally awesome from the freebies to the paid versions. Please keep up the good work. Apologies for being a whirling fanboy.
Seriously! I moved out of my parents' house when I was eighteen and never cracked again. When I play my instruments now it feels so good because they're MINE.
Oh, I get you now, but I am using an alternative to a MIDI keyboard which doesn't have the Mod wheel, so there's no way to automate this within Zebra at all? Surely there has to be. Thanks again
I have been learning some tyrell n6 that is free (used on batman and inception I have hear). Following what Hans uses is a great way to find these great synths. So is zebra really worse than serum on edm?
Sorry but I'm a newb with Zebra hah, where is the modulation wheel your talking about? I understand programming the X/Y pads though, but just still trying to get my head around it. Thanks for your help, Regards
Sorry if this is a silly question, but the Five Against Four - Neutral patch that you have going on in this video at 5 minutes in sounds completely different to mine. What am I doing wrong? :)
Hey guys, where come from so much knowledge to make all those sounds? Always tweaking and tweaking on Synths, but I never reach an appealing or desirable sound. What I've been missing? Have to mention, your Softwares are the best.
there are some great books on basic synthesis methods worth looking at,. to understand different wave-shapes and what each raw wave does, filters, and what each kind do -- e.g., don't turn up the ring mod, if you don't know what it does. Amp setting, ADSR, etc. -- great to start with a simple sawtooth and go from there :)
Hi all synth heads out there i have got and the Ace and Diva the sound is amazing, so the question is as the UH - E Zebra2 have the same sort of analog sound i could down load the demo but would like to here from people that are using the synth cheers and thank,s for reading,,
Best Synth ever. Especially zebraHZ. It brings world athmosphere into my music. I use it with ni maschine. There you have the key parameters on the tips especially on all 8 iluminated sliders with maschine jam.

I agree 💯%
Zebra is one of those synths that nobody is talking about but is one of the best there is. Way better then serum imo.
For cinematic and scientific stuff yes not for plain EDM.
serum is like a toy compared to Zebra / Diva or Repro5
I knew right away it was special and I don't even know shit about synths

I recognize a few presets that were used in Blade Runner 2049, especially the taiko drum sounds. Top shelf.
