Zebra is such a monster. Specially the dark Zebra with all those Diva modules. Just crazy. And I mean, the company is the stuff of legends. Hi nice demonstration but unfortunately extremely hard to follow since the Zebra window is tiny on your desktop. As a friendly tip, for videos switch the zoom level of the plugin or app you are using. It will allow people on smaller screens or TVs or 1080p displays to see what you are demonstrating.
Zebra 2 is quite in sweet spot for doing a modern psytrance bass fluidly: brilliance spectral effect for the higher harmonics, fundamental spectral effect for resolving the usual phase alignment problem and two XMF filters for transparent all-pass filters to do multiband-alike harmonics processing.
My favorite synth. I use it on Linux and it's awesome. Together with the four free U-HE synths it's a great foundation for different electronic genres.
I can't believe that this synth is 11+ years old. Damn, it does more than most modern Synths...it reminds me KORG's opsix native or wavestate native. They might not have all the fancy pants stuff like Phase plant or Pigments, but you can't replicate their sounds easily
I never paid for a plug because there were just so many, and some quite good, free ones out there, DEXED in particular. But then I just kept seeing so many good things said about Diva that I made the mistake of downloading the demo. Wow. Could not believe it. I quickly paid the fee to get rid of the static in the demo. I was also looking longingly at the Sequental pair, the one and the five since I have a real pro one that I used back in the day as a bass synth since I played keys and bass together for about 10 years in bands. Then Native ran a half price sale on the U-he stuff so I got the Sequental pair (Repro) and Hive. I have loved all of them. Had my eye on Zebra and when it went to half I jumped on it. I am in synth heaven lol! So many patches, so little time. I may never need another synth. The whole U-he thing is just a monster. Oh, did I mention Zebralette and Tyrell from them are free, and that's what really got me interested in their stuff to begin with. And they are both great, especially to be free.

I guess in the software synth world Zebra 2 is a senior citizen. However, it is very powerful, wildly versatile, relevant, timeless and therefore, classic. It finds its way into a lot of my work. It's like a Swiss Army knife.
Didn't think to mention it... they're pulled directly from Diva which is mono too except Diva you have you per voice tuning, modulation and unison post filter for stereo sounding stuff.
Bitwig audio is routed from my Maschine directly to a second channel in OBS and encoded seperately in the mkv file. Using a cardiod mic pattern too so pickup from the speakers is minimal.
This is a great deal but for me little too late. I have too many synths. Btw. are You aware of the free Virus C emulator "dsp56300" which works as vst and uses Virus C ROMs? It's basically a hardware Virus in software form, even all soundbanks from hardware synth work.
I've got rid of so many synths recently too, won't ever ditch Zebra though. I do know about emulator, can't be bothered with the bugs at the moment though. I was never all that obsessed with the virus... keen to see if they bring out a Waldorf XTK Rom though. It was my first hardware synth and would love a clone of it for sentimental reasons.
Took a bit of a break from making videos due to time constraints at the moment... too much other stuff going on. Will hopefully be back soon. I have some Bitwig content coming for Sonic Academy as well.
I know it’s a little late but I noticed this on the U-he site, “As Zebra Legacy is such a bargain, we will not be offering a Zebra3 upgrade path from the new 99 € licenses.” Has this changed in the year you made this video? Looks like the 30 Euro upgrade is only for Zebra 2 owners.

Anything Zebra2 can do, ZebraHZ can do, identically. ZebraHZ has a slightly tweaked UI, and some extra modules. If you do things in ZebraHZ like use the Diva filters, then Zebra2 can't do that. Also the presets are just stored as files in the data directory, so you can copy them across from Zebra2 to ZebraHZ via the file manager. If, according my brief test, you copy a ZebraHZ patch that uses a Diva filter, for example, into the Zebra2 preset folder, all that happens is that the Diva filter is replaced by an empty module slot, and everything else is the same. It's nice they do this rather than give an error message, as other software often has a habit of doing. Fail gracefully.
