- In this review I compare the two ultralight tripod pan heads; Tricer LP and Wiser PH-170 Nighthawk. While at first glance these pan heads seem incredibly similar there are definitely some important differences to note and depending on what your individual priorities are as a hunter one of these is going to be clearly better for you.

Thanks for taking the time to look at our Nighthawk, Jay! You always do a great job digging into the details and applying a thoughtful approach to your observations. Keep it up!
One thing to mention with our Nighthawk that I believe highlights the detail and consideration we put into the durability and longevity of the Nighthawk is the axes are actually sealed. This not only keeps the grease in but also prevent moisture, dust, and dirt from entering and damaging the grease or bearing surfaces.
Again, keep up the great work!
Appreciate the additional insights!
Love my Wiser gear. I've got the full tripod setup
@@MrGT3 💪
Great review! You have sold me on the Wiser Precision. Thanks
Hell ya Jay, another bad ass review, appreciate the work u put in to go indepth, and give points to both where it merits it!
Yessir!
Fantastic review as always
Thanks bro! Your watch just went in the mail!
Thanks for another thoughtful and well delivered review, Jay. This is a key reason as to why I will continue to support Mindful Reviews. I'm a huge proponent of modular and multi-use gear and I've already used the quick stix for the past year and will be adding the panhead, quick clip and, tripod leg coming up soon.
Appreciate the support man!
Great review we appreciate the kind words. Wiser makes great products we are both chasing the same thing from different angles on multiple products tripods, pan heads, and Tipi center posts. Innovation is what advances gear and I appreciate any company that is thinking outside the box and trying to better hunting gear.
I would love to see an infield review with optics on these pan heads at some point.
Will work on that for sure!
Thanks for thorough review, Jay!
My pleasure!
Love the responses from both companies. Excellent review. 💪
Thanks as always bro!
Great review Jay! I really appreciate your attention to detail. I think those are the details that end users are unhappy with but don’t know any better unless the purchase both. Keep up the great content!
Appreciate the feedback man!
I like the style of this review. Thank you
🙏
I appreciate your content, thank you.
💪
Great review, thanks for sharing!
You bet!
@@MindfulHunter Not equal, but another option I wanna look into is the new Stable-Trek made by Aziak equipment. An affordable lightweight option if you don’t wanna haul the tripod. Would love to see you get your hands on one and give your thoughts. Thanks again!
Great review! Thanks!
💪
Always great reviews. Glad to hear this will be your main “job”. It helps us hunters when deciding on purchases.
💪
Great work. Best reviews on the internet
Thank you sir!
The stow observation was enough to make my choice clear. Great job dude
💪
Good review. Both are good products. And would serve well. At the end of the day Both would do the job they were built for! I’m still rocking a manfrotto from 1995. Keep up the great videos!
Rule number 1. If it works for you it’s good gear.
great video, but one point, at 28:06 you just stumbled on a reason for the fluid heads, that the handle is mounted to a rosette, so unscrewing it a little allows it to drop into a stowage position, and since most have a bend in them, and the rotation is released simultaneously, it makes them always foldable, in the way you describe here.
👍
Great review! Helped me make the decision to snag a Wiser Nighthawk.
Awesome panhead!
Damn this was a solid review/comparison
Thanks man!
This very well could be the best review I’ve ever watched on any product. Also, the wisers ability to go 90 degrees was what made the decision for me.
Appreciate the feedback man!
Confirmation for me to try the Tricer out!
You won’t be disappointed.
Great review. See if you can get your hands on some Really Right Stuff tripods/accessories.
I buy 90% of the stuff I review myself so some of the crazy expensive stuff is hard to justify but I’ll see what I can do.
Another great comparison detail by detail. I'm digging Made in the USA...😎
It’s definitely something to consider
The sleek stowage of the wiser is a big deal for me.
Keep up the great vids.
Definitely a nice design feature!
I'm glad I saw this. The tricer was in my top 2 for my next triod and head, but after watching this and the tricer vs Aziak, tricer is no longer in the running.
💪
The fact that the Tricer could not fold flat is HUGE! How freaking annoying…
Personally, im ok lugging around my VA-5 for now, but that wiser looks sweet.
Good shit sir 🫡
That VA-5 is a great head man. Thanks!
One note with the Wiser: the ability to open up the arca a little further actually allows you to "set" your rifle between the arca rails rather than having to "slide" it into the rails. Could be a very big difference if mounting your rifle to the head.
Excellent point
Awesome review. I'd be interested in your thoughts on both of their takes on an ultra-lightweight trekking pole tripod system too.
Definitely coming
Wiser already has that in their product inventory. Miss my trekking poles can be used as shooting sticks and tripods. I recommend you give them a look.
Great review, you helped me make my decision.
Have you looked at the Aziak Ball Head?
Just finished a Hunt with it. I will be releasing a review, comparing the Aziak tripod to the tricer tripod in the next couple weeks.
Thanks for the detailed video. Just a suggestion for a drinking game. At each "functionality". Drink! I'd be stupid by the end.
🤣🤣🤣
Great review! Both products look great. Curious, do you typically remove the panhead from your tripod when put in your pack? If not, does the wiser handle hit the tripod negating that folding benefit?
No I leave it on. There is a small ring on top of the slik 634 that I remove and it lets the hanlde collaps parallel with the legs
@@MindfulHunter oh gotcha. Yeah I have been using a 634 and the base plate is 2" so I was curious. So do you remove the rubber ring and leave the portion with the gear looking grooves? Have those grooves damaged your handle at all?
I don't hunt but looking for a head for target shooting. I want arca. I plan to use binos or spotting scopes. Weight doesn't matter. Any suggestion or does it really matter?
The suriu va5 head
I second that. If weight doesn’t matter then the VA-5 is hard to beat.
Thanks for the advice.
This is kinda off subject, but what do you think about tracers tripod, the model AD
I’ve only run the BC. I prefer the Aziak. Will have a head to head review posted in a couple weeks
did you test these side by side in the field? Can these hold enough tension to be able pan/tilt a spotter without having to lock them down tight?
Yes. Tilt is no problem with a 65, marginal with an 85 and pretty much gotta lock it down with a 95. Pan is great on all sizes.
@@MindfulHunter do you have the ticer BC yet?
@@scottr564 nope. Couple weeks.
Great review. Curious as to why you didn’t have the outdoorsman micro pan head in the mix?
I buy all this gear myself and there’s just a limit to how much I can include. I agree it’s definitely a competitor in this field.
What tripod do you use @mindfulhunter??
May fav ultralight right now is the Aziak Backcountry Lite
