This story has holes in it. As a child in 1961 we were in Nashville TN. Waiting for a train with family. We actually spent a day or two there. We children went out to play. It was a very poor area of town. Next to the house,,,was an old run down motel like place that a lot of old people were living in. One of the old men spent time telling us wild west type stories....he claimed to be Billy the Kid. He was very old. And seemed a bit bitter when we acted like we did not quite believe him.
Also, it was not Harry Truman, it was Dewey who signed documentation As Brushy's son, I should know. Thanks for pointing out the other holes. Sam Peckinpah and Betty White knew this but said nothing. Shameless.
One big discrepancy was that Billy the Kid could read and write English and was fluent in spoken Spanish. Brushy Bill was illiterate with a moderate proficiency in Spanish.
William H. Bonny didn't only read & write in English & speak Spanish & French fluently; he was also proficient in Scots & Irish Gaelic. Descendants of Irish immigrants "post-potato famine" claim know this. The guy was basically illiterate & uneducated...hence, embellishment on a "legend" is created. There you have it. Not so glamorous now, huh🤔
Regardless of what he said, there are a lot of strange things about Billy's death. As an example, for some reason, the people at the park/historical site do not want to pull the DNA off the body of "Billy" to match it with Billy the Kid's mother, to prove its Billy the Kid. Also, Garrett was a friend of Billy and hung out with him plenty of times. So the rumor he may have spared him I can see it happen. Besides, Billy was promised a pardon, which is historically accurate, but the governor then refused after he had promised a pardon
The "some reason" is, they don't have Billy the Kid's body. His grave marker, along with all the other grave markers at Fort Sumner, NM were washed away in a flood in 1905. If he's buried in New Mexico, no one knows where his grave is, or the grave of his mother, Catherine Antrim, whos DNA they would need to compare to Brushy and Bill. A group tried this in 2003, btw. For the record, Brushy had every scar and mark on his body that BtK had. All five bullet wounds exactly where Billy the Kid was shot, but who knows. He was 90 when he died in 1950, suggesting a birthdate around 1860, but the family's Bible has his birthdate as 1879, so again, who knows? As to the pardon, NM said Brushy never proved he was Billy the Kid, so that's why no pardon was given.
@MrRezRising I agree with you saying I was just referring to the original pardon agreements from Governor Lew Wallace, in which he later went back on his word
I read that Lew Wallace did pardon Bonney but the D.A. had seperate jurisdiction over the case and prosecuted anyways. Then Wallace bailed to be an ambassador in Turkey . Also, if Billy was so popular with Latinos, why did the Latino jury find him guilty of murder?
@brianmallen8887 remember money talks and b******* walks. People were broke at that time, and it wouldn't surprise me that the jury was paid off. The law and the government in that state at that time were corrupt. Massively corrupt. Yeah keep in mind just because he was popular with a lot of Hispanics doesn't mean every Hispanic supported him
Because that absolutely never happened. They don't know where his body is, as the cemetery flooded multiple times and the attempt to exhume the bodies of Billy and his mother was blocked by the courts in 2004.
What are you talking about, the body was supposedly "washed away" by a flood, because he was never there to begin with. He's buried right here where I live in Hamilton Texas
Actually, he is buried in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. Fun fact, the government came in and got all the soldiers that were buried in the cemetery in the early 1900s. So if the soldiers were still there after all the floods, why wouldn't Billy be? Yes, there were floods, but only the markers were washed away. Not the bodies. Take a trip to Billy the Kid Museum and hear the evidence of what took place the night Billy was shot and killed. You will be surprised by the lack of information most people know about that night. Just like everything else, all it takes is one person to create doubt. People would like to believe he lived a long life, but that was just not the case here.

If you look into Roberts story it's BS , he makes more claims than just being BTK. He claims to have been a scout for Belle Starr when he was like 13 and then later on he rode with the Rough Riders.
They did it twice. The first time didn't account for the angles people were facing, and wasn't a very scientific test, that showed him as not a very good match. The second time, they corrected for that and used the same facial recognition software the CIA and Interpol use. It was a 93% match. As for the Robert E Lee thing the dude above mentioned, it wasn't the Confederate general, it was a guy who worked at Wild Bill's stunt show whose name was also Robert E Lee.
i love seeing videos about my families history! my great great grandfather is in this video! i just read pats books and billy forsure isn’t in his “grave” it’s animal bones according to my journal
In a normal procedure, the sheriff would have brought the corpse to a place for anyone to witness. He would have demonstrated his guns, his clothing, his boots, his rifle. Pat Garrett did not follow that procedure. He took every precaution to conceal the identity of the corpse.
@@MarineScoutSniper I guess you believe Robert E. Lee also signed a document saying this guy was the real Billy the Kid even though Robert E. Lee died when Billy was only 10 or 11 years old.
They are working on Young Guns III - using the Brushy Bill story that Billy didn't get killed by Garrett and went on to live through many other historical events.
Billy died at age 93 on a small farm sw of Lawton OK, I had a rifle he gave my dad just before ww2, it's a Winchester model 94 32-40, Billy bought in town at a hardware store before Oklahoma was a state it has a 4 digit serial number. Under the butt plate there's a hollow place in the stock where he left a long note. I sold that rifle to a private collector after he had hired a couple of museum guys to come look at it, I signed a paper agreeing to never say who bought from me. This was in the late 70's for $35,000 bucks, I thought I was rich, dumbest thing I ever did.
I remember hearing about this on an episode of Unsolved Mysteries years ago. To this day there are people who believe that Brushy Bill is William Bonnie aka Billy the Kid.
There used to be a small museum in Stanton, Missouri, near Jesse James' hideout in Meramec Caverns, that told the whole story of Brushy Bill as well as James Courtney, who claimed to be Jesse James.
I tend to believe this theory given that Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid were friends at one time and very well could carry that friendship throughout the entire ordeal leading Pat Garrett to find a replacement for Billy the kitten allowing him to make his escape, but it’s just a theory.
The only theory I could come up with is that Pat and Billy were friends for a long time, before Pat became a lawman. As on final favor to an old pal. Pat may have let him go, declaring the other body to be Billies. But that's just a fancy idea, either way the timeline just doesn't quite add up.
I’m actually Billy the Kid and I have a signed document from Richard Nixon and Cory Feldman(mouth from the Goonies movie and modern pop phenomena) that proves it. With advanced FIB “curvature of the pelvis area” technology it was a 72 percent match and we have the same shoes. I was just as surprised as you all are when I found out too
No way I didn't know about the software being used but I was convinced he was telling the truth after watching Young Guns 'did you see the size of that chicken!' & Young Guns Two 'i'll make you famous' then learning of the man who came forward who claimed to be Billy I heard more in the later years & was convinced it was him, hearing the software put it at the high 90% area is the computer equivalent of 'yes sure his the guy alright no doubt about it' fascinating

If you look into Roberts story it's BS , he makes more claims than just being BTK. He claims to have been a scout for Belle Starr when he was like 13 and then later on he rode with the Rough Riders.
As a new Mexican this is my favorite part of our states history
I thought I had read that the facial recognition software actually proved conclusively that Brushy Bill Roberts was NOT Billy The Kid. To Google I go!
You're correct.
Another big clue this is all bs is the fact that Robert E Lee died when the real Billy the Kid was only 9 or 10 years old.
But Robert E. Lee Jr. was alive til 1923... he didn't say General Lee, he said R E L... after the senior passes, alot of times the "Jr" is dropped...
I just visited Billy's grave on Monday in New Mexico
You visited on Thursday, remember?
I have a confession, I’m billy the kid and the 2nd gun man on the grassy knoll. Plz don’t tell the law I want to enjoy my remaining years.
Your secret is safe with us.😉👍👍👌
I love this report and I also love your shirt, so I have subscribed.
i love seeing videos about my families history! my great great grandfather is in this video! i just read pats books and billy forsure isn’t in his “grave” it’s animal bones according to my journal
bet you didn’t know pat and truman are related thru marriage. that’s my uncle on my grandmas side
LOL... take your meds.
Holy shit....thats Jon "not brushy" Lovitz.
This is the craziest thing I have heard in a long time, Pat Garrett killed Billy the Kid, case closed
@@JamesReynolds852 dumbass. The Robert E Lee he is talking about is the guy in Buffalo Bills Circus 🤦♂️
@@MarineScoutSniper Garett thought or maybe knew that Billy had friends in Ft Sumner and wanted to get out of there asap
@@JamesReynolds852I believe that Pat Garrett killed Billy the Kid
I absolutely love Billy the kid stories.
Love this content 🤘! CHEERS 🍻 keep it up!
So.... this is a joke right?
Well it's not a joke that some guy named Brushy Bill claim to be Billy the Kid
Yes it is a joke. Brushy bill was a huge liar
@@Yup71719yes brushy bill and anything related to his false claims are a joke
Outraged!! Brushy Bill never told an untruth his whole existence 🤥. . while he lived in Hico TX and never left. 😏😏
Fake
*One thing for sure this will never be decided in favor of anybody ever.*
The Ears between those 2 are so different!!!!!
Pat Garrett, new Billy the kid, and knew what he look like. I would think that he would know if he killed Billy the Kid or not.
Billy aka Mr Roberts was not killed that night. He's my 5th grandfather
Unsolved mysteries was right
Thank you Robert Stack
Young Guns and Young Guns II taught me all I needed to know. However I am slightly obsessed with Billy the Kid.
My Great Great Great Grandpa Milnor Rudolph Was The One Who Examined The Body He Was The Coroner That Confirmed The Death !
When I was visiting a friend in El Paso we went to Lincoln County, NM and saw all the Billy the Kid touristy stuff. It was kind of neat.
I like to believe bill survived and then went on to defend his son and a sheriff from a gang that didn’t want to leave them alone
Who’d you sell it to
@Pojo-tq4zk that note was 3 small pages written in Spanish, I don't know what it said.
I had an uncle named Bill Morrison.
He was a gun Smith. He passed away about 10 years ago, at the age of 94
One of the many great mysteries we will never know the absolute truth too
My father’s name is William Morrison, however he passed in 1988. Great shirt!
the fact that Billy and pat was friends should have given it all away
Nah it’s old Henry this whole time.., just keep ya head down kid
have heard this before & it is true
I remember hearing about this on an episode of Unsolved Mysteries years ago. To this day there are people who believe that Brushy Bill is William Bonnie aka Billy the Kid.
There used to be a small museum in Stanton, Missouri, near Jesse James' hideout in Meramec Caverns, that told the whole story of Brushy Bill as well as James Courtney, who claimed to be Jesse James.
My Grandma knew Billy, he live in Duncan Arizona (on the NM border) and was a nice man I was told. We have pictures of my father sitting on his knee,
Dig them up, they're worth hundreds of thousands, as they've only ever verified the one.
I tend to believe this theory given that Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid were friends at one time and very well could carry that friendship throughout the entire ordeal leading Pat Garrett to find a replacement for Billy the kitten allowing him to make his escape, but it’s just a theory.
"you wanna know if I've got scars? Yeah. I've got scars"
@0:50 _where did that pic come from??_
*Ive never seen such a clear likness of billy!?*_
🧐🤔😳🤷🏼

I love young guns
Young Guns 2 was surprisingly good. Really really enjoyed that one too.
Thanks for this one. Loved when it was profiled on Unsolved Mysteries too. Not sure if he was or wasn't Billy the kid 🤔
Truth is stranger than fiction 🫡💯!!!
I have been to Billy's grave in New Mexico. Lee died in 1870, years before Billy died.
For everyone doubting the results of the facial recognition, keep in mind the courts only need 50% for a criminal conviction.
Billy by far my favorite outlaw! Which he shouldn’t be called that. He had morals he killed bad men that wronged him or his friends!
I love your shirt!

Wow. If I wasn’t a cw buff I’d fell for the REL bit.
wild west extravaganza did the beat video on brushy bill
Truth be told brushy Bill was actually Billy the goat! 😂
Emilio Estevez 🤠
That photo is not Billy’s photo it was proven a hoax
Easy way to find out was to get someone to speak irish to him ...very hard language and very unknown but Billy the kid spoke it
Billy the Kid is actually Emilio Estevez, who plays lesd guitar in Bon Jovi.
Really weird... i was just SILENTLY thinking about this story yesterday after hearing a song titled Billy the Kid
“ You are not him “
No way I didn't know about the software being used but I was convinced he was telling the truth after watching Young Guns 'did you see the size of that chicken!' & Young Guns Two 'i'll make you famous' then learning of the man who came forward who claimed to be Billy I heard more in the later years & was convinced it was him, hearing the software put it at the high 90% area is the computer equivalent of 'yes sure his the guy alright no doubt about it' fascinating
My grandparents house and where i grew up is just a few houses down from Harry S. Trumans birthplace in Lamar, MO
Hes right I was there!! Ol Roberts use to stay beside us!! 😄😅😊 OL (outlaw Roberts)
The FBI had facial recognition technology in the 1800’s. I had no idea.
I love the history stories. I haven't any reason to doubt him, I haven't any proof to say otherwise either.
I first heard about the brushy bill story way back when you could order gunfighter books through the mail
Photos look spot on! Things like teeth and jaw protrusion stay for life
This with Robert E. Lee is pretty funny. However, I’ve watched some documentaries about Brushy Bill I would lean towards Brushy. Bill was Billy the Kid.
AWESOME SHIRT MAN ! THE BANDS BEST.
I taught a kid 25 years ago named Bob Lee. Maybe that’s the Lee that signed the paper. Notice he didn’t say General.
