Nike took the existing shoe and asked Onitsuka to modify it slightly and this became the Cortez (even the name was mutually agreed). It was originally an Onitsuka shoe. Tiger call their 'Cortez' the 'Corsair'.
Actually he wore Onitsuka as well. In the pic he may have worn Puma but that info comes right off the Onitsuka site and a photo with Kihachiro and Abebe together trying on shoes.
