I came here to watch a video on a Steve Harris Gen1 bass and got completely captivated by your story. I'm one of the lucky kids with two parents that supported me with my passion for the bass guitar from day one. I was even spoiled a bit, as they bought all my equipment for me to get started & even let me play in bars and clubs underage. Hearing your story and what you went through makes me feel like i was a spoiled brat that got everything easy
I certainly don't want you to feel privileged or spoiled at all. Actually, I am very happy for you and wish that all parents treated their children as well as yours treated you. What I went through was unfortunate but it did turn me into the person I am today. I'm someone that can take care of myself and after some years of being less than nice I was able to develop a sense of empathy for other people based on my own personal experiences. I like who I have become. Sadly my family and I do not speak to each other anymore but that was my choice. I was actually shocked when I met families with brothers and sisters that were not only nice to one another but actually loved each other as well. Never having that is the only thing about my situation I feel loss over. In fact I never had kids because I was so afraid I would damage them with similar behavior my parents displayed. Even at 53 years old I still deal with the psychological damage it caused. I hope one day I figure out how to make it stop. All of that is actually why I made this channel. Music has been my only reliable source of refuge going all the way back to 1982. I make all this content for everyone but I hope it finds its way to people who are struggling with finding some peace. If you pay close attention I hope It is noticeable that I am trying to create content that empowers everyone in some way. I'm far from perfect and it doesn't always work but I'll keep trying for as long as I can. So please, feel good if you had parents that nurtured your interests, be good to your kids, and take the time to smile and have a kind word for strangers. You never know what someone is going through or how badly they might need it. And it wasn't all bad for me. If you want to feel a little better watch this, and thank you for watching my video and letting me know it resonated with you. That really makes me feel good. th-cam.com/video/x4nKdMLYJJ0/w-d-xo.html
Thanks, buddy. I didn’t see it at the time but all those things turned me into who I am today. I hope you liked the end. That part makes everything worth it.
The Eddie part at the end though. I giggled. By the way, your story in this one actually hit home. I went through similar stuff growing up. My first guitar got stolen, but my mom because supportive of my love for guitar. She never bought me a guitar, but she understood that I love them. I love to play them. Just got a couple dream guitars a few months ago. They're not the originals from when I was a kid, I wound up getting the reissues of them. One is an hm strat. Damn nice guitar. The other is a nightswan by Kramer in the Aztec finish. This thing is awesome. Very fun to play. the originals by the way, are on my list. That is, I'm saving up for an original hm strat. An original nightswan in the Aztec graphic may not ever appear. Glad my reissue is nice. Funny enough, Kramer discontinued that finish again shortly after I got mine. 😂 Rock on brother. We know what metal did for us and how music saved and changed our lives for the better. \m/
Dude! Thank you so much, brother! Yeah, music saved me big time and I know it did for other people too. And your comment is definitely proof of that. Funny enough I have an original HM Strat. I’m going to use it for my series, “Would a Floyd Rose by any other name play as sweet”. It came with a Kahler Spyder and I will be showing exactly how to set one up from start to finish including taking it completely apart. I decided to make that series because you can’t set up a spyder, Ibanez edge, JT6, etc. like a Floyd. They are very different. If you haven’t checked out the Iron Maiden version 3 bass it has a similar story from when I was 12 in 1982. That one is much happier. I totally invite you to go take a look at it. In fact I invite you to like and subscribe and hit the notification bell. I do these videos to share my passion with like minded people and let them know they are not alone. Congrats on having a Nightswan, by the way. I plan on picking one up for sure but I’m desperately holding out for a reissue of the lightning graphic one, or an original should I be so fortunate. And I want to also invite you to check out the videos for The Squishy Guitar Project on my channel. It’s a a nonprofit organization that gives guitars to children with rare and terminal diseases. Just me and a good friend of mine taking on the world with the power of guitar! This autistic kid finally got his guitar chokes me up every time. Consider yourself part of the family my friend! We’re all in this together.
Thanks for sharing your experience growing up: I really admire your openness relating to what you've gone through. It makes you very relatable indeed! Oh, and what an incredible array of guitars and equipment. Alongside your obvious skills and cool video editing I'd say one thing.... WHY don't you have MORE subscribers?!?
I will take quality subscribers (such as yourself) over quantity. My channel has been steadily gaining growth slowly. I have what I believe to be some very compelling content coming in the future. Some of this content will be sooner and some will take a little longer. One thing is certain and will remain true, everything I put on here is with the intention of being helpful. This includes not only information on how to fix an instrument but also sharing less than comfortable situations and how I got through them. Reliving the story in this video was difficult. However, if it can assist anyone dealing with something similar (or completely different) then the discomfort I felt telling the story was well worth it.

While I have your attention (and since you're a Steve Harris fan), do you know much about his red backup P Bass? I've been specifically trying to figure out what shade of red it is. I was hoping to build a copy of it. Cheers!

Why would anyone create a Steve Harris Signature bass and put a wine color pick guard when everyone and their brother knows it's supposed to be a chrome pick guard?
No idea but this isn’t a Steve Harris signature bass, it’s an Iron Maiden bass. I realize that is probably the dumbest thing I have ever said but it’s true.
