Mission to an Abandoned Military Fortified Island

- In this video, we are joined by fellow exploring channel Hell on Earth in an attempt to reach one of the abandoned military fortified islands, Inchgarvie, off the coast of Edinburgh, Scotland. With two boats, one motor and some rope, we were tasked with the challenge of traversing the choppy sea to board the defunct WW1 remains, all of which is documented in the longest video on our channel to date!

Enjoyed this one! we live in Fife, and hubby is a Veteran and anything Military he loves, we see these islands all the time and it was great to see them close up! I bet the outtakes and “bloopers” were hilarious! The Forth is notorious for its changing conditions from weather to flow. Look forward to the next venture locally. By the way do you guys know about the Cromarty firth where the submarine nets were secured there is access from Nigg on the north side, I’ve not tried the south side but there were gun emplacements and more on the North side of the Cromarty, when I was able to get there a number of years ago, it would be good to see and you seem to be able to unearth the history too, could make another good video coverering both the north and south areas where the military were stationed to protect the entry to the Cromarty Firth, hopefully that’s enough info to find the location 😊 happy exploring

I Thank You all for taking me to Inch Garvie! I lived in Scotland for 5 yrs. with my Scot. Every time I went over both the bridges and to Queensferry I would Look at this.
My Hubby told me the story of it . I always want to go to it .! and you all have done this for me . Cheers ! (my hubby will want to watch , later)

lol! at 33:05 it's pronounced "ross-sythe" dockyard (Rosyth Dockyard), my home town 🥰 absolutely brilliant video guys! I have always wanted to visit Inchgarvie after having visited Inchcolm island back when I was in high school and passing by these historic islands on an almost daily basis for nearly 32 years.
WOW Just WOW! I have said it many times lads, but you have blown it out of the park with this one, which has to be your best yet. I have never been so captivated watching one of your TH-cam videos as I was with this one. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, at first for your safety and then for the wonderful images of Inchgarvie and its contents. Being a Scot who has seen this from afar many times, I never thought I would get to see it close up, and I have to say a massive thank all three of you and the help from your buddies at Hell On Earth. I also loved the fact that we got to see of the three of you a lot more in front of the camera. Thanks

My maternal Grandfather served on Inchkeith and Inchgarvie during the early part of the Second World War. Quite often look down on Inchgarvie when taking the train.
Great video lads. Loved the scenes under the Forth Bridge. Brings back vivid memories of a ferry trip to Inchcolm Abbey.

Kudos to that little 2hp outboard for making that trip. I've taken a 20hp outboard on 3.5m dinghy up there and it struggled with two of us 😂
In 1970, we went to Inchgarvie in my uncle's speed boat. I have been to Hound Point on an oil tanker and been up on top of the the north tower of the Forth Bridge. You mention 12 pdr guns. 12lb shells were used in the guns, pdr = pounder. Inch means island. Calling this island Inchgarvie island is wrong. Beside the Forth Bridge central tower is Thomas Bouch's aborted bridge pier, now a navigation aid.

We spend a lot of time in Scotland due to family being from there and when we travel north of our normal location in the Borders I always wondered what the buildings were - now I know.

years back dad took us kids out on that stretch of the Forth in a small motor boat. Very choppy and then bang we hit something below the surface.Shit us up so we turned around,so lucky,no hole, dad couldnt swim and we were little kids

I love all the videos you guys make you can see the amount of effort and thought that goes into making them and yous can see that you all enjoy the exploring and experience doing it. Glad my partner told me about this channel cos I've been watching these videos non stop. I'm Scottish and live not far from the forth road bridge, I was so gullible as a young child and my dad heavily convinced me that the forth road bridge was in fact a rollercoaster 🤣

There is lots of these islands down the firth of the forth mostly used for similar reasons, prisons or military mostly, lately during World war2.

Very dangerous waters, the current in certain areas is deadly & absolutely impossible to overcome at times, similar to San Francisco Bay, brave or naive you made it none the less.

Inchgarvie used to be nightmare for rats they actual had to do a controlled burn to get rid of them for a fireworks display.

My family from Edinburgh and many times I was told stories of Messerschmitt from Germany sent to destroy the bridges and the gun turrets open firing on them. They tried to destroy the fourth road bridge many times all the fourth rail bridge. I don’t know which one was the main one but I know that the Germans constantly came up the firth of forth to try and get the bridge and the gun turrets would shoot them down or at least attempt.
The Germans would have a hard job destroying the Forth Road Bride considering it was opened in the 60s…😂
The story is the Germans thought they’d destroyed the Forth Rail Bridge because from the air Inch Mickery looks like smoke.

@@southpolesurfer6936I never said it didn’t happen, I simply added a bit on to your story. The Germans tried to destroy the rail bridge and nearby Rosyth navy base. The gun placements are still there along the Forth and on many of the islands.
