  • You need to watch this video before you buy anything! We are reviewing the Keurig K-Duo coffee maker. What sets this apart from other Keurig coffee makers or other coffee makers that use K-Cups, is that in addition to the K-Cups, the Keurig K-Duo also lets you brew a full pot of coffee the traditional way with a paper filter, ground coffee, and a 12 cup carafe. Now you can make a full pot when you are entertaining guests or just want a lot of coffee, or you can use a K-Cup and brew a single cup when that's all you need or you are on the go! The K-Duo also features scheduled brewing, a large reservoir, options for multiple brew sizes, and is very easy to clean. How does it perform, though? Is the Keurig K-Duo worth your hard earned money? Watch this video to find out!

      Hi, Joe... I received my Keurig K-Duo Special Edition model just yesterday. It has all of the features your demo model has, except it didn't come with a generic K-Pod for my own coffee grounds. I've also had several previous models over the years that were very simple to operate. Anyway, I've had a devil of a time to get either the carafe or single-cup buttons to work according to the instruction pamphlet. Last night after about 30 minutes, I was finally able to get a cleansing brew done. Afterward, when I attempted a carafe brew, the lights alternated between the carafe and single-cup even after hitting the carafe button. The same happens with the single-cup attempt. The brew size lights do intermittently flicker to determine how many cups I wish to use but this was also not functioning well. Do you have any advice, or do you know of a troubleshooting video that can address this issue?

      Here goes what Keurig says about it:
      If the buttons are non-responsive, please first attempt to press the POWER button. If this does not work, try unplugging the power cord and plugging it back in (after a short period of time). Then, try pressing the POWER button. If this doesn't work, please call Keurig® Customer Service at 1-866-901-BREW (2739).

    This is why I love TH-cam. My wife got me a Keurig Kduo for Christmas and I figured I was doing something wrong when the carafe kept overflowing in the coffee filter. I would put the carafe mug under it with the lid open so it was not pushing up the coffee drain so the coffee flows freely and was causing it to overflow. Thank you for this!!! I was about to take it back thinking it was malfunctioning.

    Holy cow!!!! We just got this for $79! I knew it was a good deal at that price! The regular k cup only keurigs are usually like $59, not sure if that’s when they’re on sale or not but either way I thought $79 was really good. Thanks for this video! It’s very helpful! Now I know what to expect when I set it up! It’ll be cool to use the auto brew feature or whatever it’s called. You are absolutely right about the expense, especially if it stops working after a year and a half. My daughter’s Keurig is now doing the same thing mine did(making only 2 cups at a time, then quitting altogether). Very disappointed in Keurig, they were of no assistance.

    • @JoesPhenomenal
      @JoesPhenomenal  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems like Keurig as a company has always had issues with that injector for the k-cups konking out or getting clogged and not working anymore after a year or so.. Not sure why that is. It seems like coffee makers from other manufacturers that do the k-Cups also have a different design on the injectors that might be a little better... in the short term, anyway..

    Your review was - dare I say it? - phenomenal. I almost bought this because I've had several Keurig machines before but wanted a 2in1. However, after watching your Ninja Dual Brew Pro video, I decided to go with that. I haven't looked back since. That said, the only things I miss is that Keurig machines allow for re-usable k-cups (Ninja doesn't), the Keurig machines have water filters, and the reservoir lights up on some Keurig machines, which looks pretty cool.

    • @JoesPhenomenal
      @JoesPhenomenal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Yep... All stuff that I missed a little too. The filter wasn't too bad for me though since I always run the water going into it from a brita pitcher anyways. The reusable k-cup thing was a bummer tho.

    We went with the gen 1 version of this on sale for $79. It doesn't have the clock or scheduling features, but we don't usually use that feature anyways. We have had it over a year and it is still working fine. Our cabinets are a little higher than most so it is not a problem to remove the tank and add water that way. We also bought a coffee pot trolley that we can sit the whole pot on. Then we just squeeze a couple tabs and roll the coffee pot out from under the cabinet if we decide to just add water without removing the tank. We may get the newer one only because the gen 1 version only gives you the options of 8, 10, and 12 cups/oz. pot/cup. The gen 2 gives you the additional option of 6 cups/oz of coffee. Which we would use the 6 cups of coffee almost daily in the morning. Overall though we liked the price of the gen1 and went with that for now and have been happy ever since.

    I was on the fence about buying this, which is why I’m here lol, great review!! I do agree with you about the time resetting on appliances being annoying and a watch battery would solve this issue. My guess is manufacturers dont want to give consumers access to the internals of the machine to actually change the battery. Or possibly it has somthing to do with how they waterproof the circuit board. Typically if you open the machine it voids the warrenty so maybe they just don’t have a good way to do this without passing on the extra cost to us. Idk but I agree it is annoying

    • @JoesPhenomenal
      @JoesPhenomenal  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! Appreciate you taking the time to watch. I actually have 2 small appliances that I'm doing reviews for that do keep time settings when you unplug them.. A Zojirushi rice cooker and a Revolution smart toaster. I don't see a compartment on either one for the battery though, so I'm assuming it's something like a CR2032 battery or something like that (the same as on computer motherboards). Probably can keep the time accurate for 4 or 5 years or so.... Or maybe 3 days after the warranty expires. Lol

      They have those charcoal ones which do a pretty good job, but I never really worried too much about it, since I just use filtered water in the machine anyways. Definitely it's a good idea, if you're using tap water though. It will extend the life of the coffee maker quite a bit. I love the coffee maker, but the carafes have issues. Replaced the original carafe because it spilled every time I poured a cup of coffee. I then replaced it with a used one from Goodwill thinking it would fix the problem, but still had the same issue. I then called Keurig and explained the problem and they sent me a replacement free of charge. It also had the same issue. I thought it was a defective seal between the glass and plastic, but learned from your site that it was just a poor design. So, I will just have to deal with it. Right now we have a regular Keurig and a Ninja coffee bar. She uses k-cups and I use the Ninja to make a pot so I can fill my thermos for the day. My question is, if you set the timer for the carafe, can someone use the single without effecting it? We're looking at this model, but I immediately have a couple of negatives. First is ergonomics and involves the control panel and display located on top instead of front mounted. Second involves the fact that electronics are mounted on a moving part. Every time the cover is opened and closed, the wires are being stretched and flexed. I could see that leading to premature electrical issues, compounded by the fact that hot steam rises, potentially leading to electrical issues. The carafe issue you mention would be an immediate pass.

    • @JoesPhenomenal
      @JoesPhenomenal  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With this machine, the brew never actually pauses... When you pull the carafe during a brew, a mechanical stopper just drops down so nothing spills on the hot plate, but if you don't put the pot back pretty quickly, the resovoir up top will fit up and spill over. I don't believe there is a way to temporarily stop and restart the brewing though.

    I'm confused. It's a 60oz reservoir, but the maker can do a 12-cup carafe of coffee? Isn't 12 cups actually 96 oz?

    • @JoesPhenomenal
      @JoesPhenomenal  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds weird, huh? The reservoir holds 60, but the machine holds a certain amount inside of it as well... You notice it most when you first make coffee after purchase and it seems to suck in a ton more water than it needs. Subsequent brews will have that water stored in it already though and you add as needed... Also, the capacity of the carafe is qw cups, but if it were actually filled that high it would be too full, so it brews something below that. The marketing is a little misleading on that, kinda like when you buy a car and thr mpg seems to be some fictional number.

    I am getting a 3rd replacemnet from Keurig since December 25,2021. This last rep was honest and told me they have been having issues with the Duo. She apologized and told me they're instructed to replace if troubleshooting over the phone does not work. She also gave me two boxes of my choice off their website of 24 count k-pods. Be aware before you buy!

    • @JoesPhenomenal
      @JoesPhenomenal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Thanks for the great addition and info! Much appreciated. This seems to have been an issue for Keurig for as far back as I can remember, and It's something I should havce pointed out just as an FYI. Through my research of this (leaving out a history lesson of the inventor), the actual mechanism that keurig uses to stab the pods and inject the hot water, etc., has always been problematic. It has a tendancy over time to get jammed and clogged and there's only so much that can be done to keep it clean. It seems like there is a large percentage of keurig brewers across their line that will fail due to this pretty quickly if you use them a lot. Keurig owns green mountain coffee though (which produces most of the kcups you buy), and the profits on k-cup sales far surpass the profits on the machines.. so instead of fixing the problem on the machines, it's cheaper for them to just give you a new one so you keep buying k-cups. I have a review up here for Ninja's top coffee maker, which also supports k-cups, and the design of the injector looks totally different... not sure if it's better over time, but it's interesting. Here goes the link if ya anna see. Thanks!! th-cam.com/video/AMAUC5pcWyw/w-d-xo.html

      Keurigs a po tof times have issues with the kcup injectors getting clogged in a way that cleaning can't fix. It's kinda of a design thing that keurig has been plagued with for a really long time. Some people never have the problem though.

    After having a single Kcup maker for years we craved a pot being made on the weekends. Researched a bunch of models and choose this one. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxL8yFdHfPF4ObeIwJ5JdM3i_9XLnbjUC2 We love it! We wanted a water reservoir for the single cup so we didn’t have to pour water in every cup but the other models it fed the water to the coffee pot to so by the time we made one pot we’d have no water left. This model has the traditional pour in feature for the pot and the reservoir for the cup which works great for us. Love how there is a bunch of holes pouring the water over the coffee, makes it taste much better. Only drawback I have is the way the lid is angled on the pot section it’s hard to get the last bit of water out of the pot into the machine without it spilling somewhere else.

      Ugh! Did I miss that? I'm sorry. I did a comparison video with that and the ninja dual pro, and it's in there but I must have left it out of this video somehow. Will give you a quick rundown on that. Basically, you just load the water and the coffee grounds, turn it on, hit the program button, and then you use the buttons to cycle the time for start. Once you have that in there it will ask for the size of the brew by lighting up all the size buttons. All you do from there is select that, and then it will shut the machine down with the program light on. That's about it... Takes about 20 seconds to set it, and I believe it keeps the warmer plate on for 2 or 3 hours after the brew completes. The program feature only works for coffee in the carafe, though. So no support for kcups on the programming side.
