The Eastern Himalaya - Darjeeling and Kalimpong

In a hundred ages of the Gods I could not tell three of the glories of the Himalaya. Tranquil, mysterious, compelling - the Himalayas. Join people with a mystical gravity.
Some seek the challenge of the mountains to conquer them others delve within undertaking the journey to spiritual cause. In India the eastern himalayas stretch across Sikkim extended on the Darjeeling Hills in North Bengal and finishing in a flourish in Arunachal pradesh, the last sentinel of the North East. The Nepalese call sikkim sukkim or the new place for the bhutiyas it was demazon or the valley of rice. But the lectures put it simply the abode of the gods. Mount kanchenjunga the presiding deity of several peaks that raise there heads like a panzier of Gods. Sikkim steeped in legends in history. This mystical land with its dramatic topography is a multidimensional holiday destination. Sikkim is a trekkers' paradise - it's vast unspoiled terrain offers notable scale. The rivers cascade down mountains slope. Their crystal clear water catch the sparkle of the sun. teesta that originates in the glaciers of kanchanjanga. The rangeet it's handsome tributary. The rapids of these mountains are turbulent with safe and gradient for river rafting and kayaking. Two and half hour North of gangtok the mystical Changu Lake. Gleaming tranquil blue above all sacred. The oval shaped Chhangu remains completely frozen in the winter months. Giving rise to breathtaking snow fields. A palpable mysticism permeates the very air of Sikkim. Perhaps infused by the presence of its nearly 200 ancient monasteries. Religious centers repositories of a timeless sculptures and ancient traditions. Situated 5 kms from gangtok the Amche monastery built by site blessed by a lama a revered tantric master. Every year around January Cham or the religious mask dance staged with great fan fare for two days . This colorful dance is performed in the monastery courtyard amongst themselves. Spectacularly depicting the legendary myths of tantric Buddhism. Draped in a thousand rainbows the Rumtek monastery. Grand pictures tranquil. The seat of the karmapas and the kargio sect of Tibetan Buddhism. A replica of the soulful monastery. Their traditional seat in Tibet it's houses some mahayana Buddhisms most unique art objects the ancient manuscripts and icons.
Nestling amid misty mountains, the state oozes an old world charm - a throw back to the days of British Raj. Darjeeling an alpine get away from the tropical heat of West Bengal. Darjeeling was also the hometown of the great mountaineer Tenzing Norgay. His memories are well preserved and the town pays homage to its most famous son. But it is the magical toy train that makes the trip to Darjiling a special experience. The toy train, now a world heritage is a marvel of miniature rail engineering. Proven when it negotiates the sheer gradient. It's narrow guage measures just a half meter. Starting in the foot hill town of Siliguri, it zig zags across the face of the hills. The journey is enchanting as it passes breadth taking landscapes. It cannot be experienced anywhere else in the world.
Situated on a ridge with a breadth taking view of the teesta - the picturesque town of Kalimpong. A flower Bazar of this region. The 51 kms East of Darjeeling, its Orchid and flower nurseries are unique in India. Flowers in India are exported in northern part of India and abroad. Kalimpong is also famous for its indigenous handicrafts. The artisans produce exotic Tibetan and Bhutanese handicrafts that are much admired in the country and around the globe.

Britishers tried to but they couldn't stand the brave nepali force who only used khukuri (traditional nepali knife or a machete) this war is also known as Anglo-Nepalese war , after seeing this bravery from the nepalis the Britishers instead hired them in their own armies. Sikkim and Darjeeling were a part of Nepal but the guy who was given task of separating the border at the time of British raj put sikkim and darjeeling into India. Darjeeling is in west Bengal but we don't have anything common with the Bengalis we want to get separated from west Bengal
