  • Lights, camera and 360 degree action with the new JCB Stage V rotating telehandler range.
It’s going to be big in the film industry, but also change the way of working for construction projects and much more…
Peter Haddock went to the JCB Kevin Quarry to find out more and take a walk around the 555-260R sister model to the 555-210R machine, with product expert, Jonathon Smith.
Its DNA is built on decades of experience, stemming back from 1977 when JCB launched its first telescopic handler. And both owners and operators will be pleased to hear it has 84% parts commonality with the existing range, supporting parts and dealer backup.
    These common parts include:
    - JCB DieselMax 112kW Stage V Engine
    - ‘Clear View’ Q-Fit Carriage with RFID tag as standard
    - Husco Hydraulic Valve Block
    - SAHR Park Brake
    - Dana Spicer 213 Axles
    - Bosch Rexroth 2 Speed Hydrostatic Transmission
    - Loadall fixed frame Cab
The versatility of the product is what makes it stand out as you have the equivalent of three machines in one.
A telehandler, crane and a Mobile Working Platform. And not forgetting a whole range of attachments which will just keep growing through their JCB Attachments division.
The machine itself is capable of travelling at 40 kph on the road and 12 kph on sites, using its two speed hydrostatic transmission and permanent 4-wheel drive.
For the operator it also has three steer modes which include two wheel, all-wheel and crab.
This product shares the same ergonomic controls as the fixed boom machines, so operators will be very familiar with the machine and its ease of configuration.
A further benefit is the introduction of dedicated load monitoring and machine performance display screens in the cab. These provide all of the important information an operator will need to use the machine.
As I witnessed in the quarry, it has a one touch auto deploy, retract and level outrigger system. This allows the operator to set up the machine very quickly, in fact, it takes just 28 seconds before it's ready to go, which is just so fast.
But what I like about the model is the built-in safety with a huge lighting package, 360 degree camera solution, a ‘remote control’ and seven auto stop buttons to disable the machine.
And for the operators and engineers, there are wide horizontal service and engine doors opening for full 360 degree access (see me opening it) and it also has anti-slip steps on all four corners of the machine which makes access and egress much simpler.
This machine is also a ‘connected asset’, which connects to JCB LiveLink so it can be monitored by JCB, its dealers and even the customer (see my introduction video to JCB LiveLink here • 350,000+ machines are ... )
And of course leading industry players are also very keen on the range as CB has just sold 25 machines to Charles Wilson Engineers Ltd
But don’t worry as more are available this year…… yes in 2022.
