I’ve recently rewatched the whole series. The hysterical part is mostly in GoF. He’s a lot calmer in PoA, OotP, HBP and DH2
@@jasondyrkacz8270 It wasn't Michael Gambon's fault. It was the Director, Mike Newell who wanted the scene to play out like this. It's Mike's direction style to create chaotic and suspenseful arguments to increase the tension and make the scene believable. So many Harry Potter fans choose to dismiss this detail because "Oh muh Books said CALMLY". It's been so many years, and people are still triggered.
Nah. Dumbledore in the books is a Mary Sue type character, unrelatable and way too naturally calm. He's far more human in the films. This is a life or death issue and he's panicked as such.

Think his actor got a little too into the scene here.
When you know the truth about Snape’s motivations from the end of his story it changes how you see this scene. He wasn’t hoping Harry would come to harm, it’s just his Slytherin cunning at play. Letting things unfold in his mind provided the chance to be able to discover who was behind the situation and for them to be dealt with, while shutting things down only kept whoever was behind it undiscovered and trying some other means to bring Harry to harm which they might NOT know about in that case and wouldn’t be able to save Harry from. Obviously things didn’t go as well as hoped but Snape certainly didn’t want Harry to be put in the situation he ended up in. He’d have interfered if he could have no doubt, same as he ultimately did anyway.

After all Professor McGonagall cared the most for Harry... Dumbledore kept Harry alive just for the defeat of Voldemort, might have cared truly from his heart, while Snape's actual attitude towards Harry remains controversial.

I always thoughts was odd the rules still had to be followed even though they were broken when Harry’s name was successfully put in the Goblet
When his name was put into the goblet, by Barty Crouch Jr. He put them in through a different school (it's explained in the books) hence not really breaking any rule at all. Also, it's also mentioned that once the name has come out of the goblet, a contract has been formed with the champion and the goblet which I think is like the unbreakable vow, there would be consequences if not followed.( Also explained in the book)

@@gatsbygoodwood2575 When they allowed Harry to compete they have no idea who put it or whether Harry is really being honest hence, they thought Harry might be bound by the goblet. However, I agree with you. The whole idea of how Harry gets to compete has a lot of plot weaknesses. Harry's name was written by somebody else can't the Goblet figure that out? Harry's name was written with a different school, how come his school does not show up when his paper was sput out by the Goblet? How come Harry did not tell the professors that it wasn't his handwriting? They have magic to store memories and see it afterwards, the power to manipulate space-time, etc. and yet they can't review who put Harry's name on it? Harry joining the Cup is essential to the series though. JK probably just ran out of ideas how to reasonably justify it.
@@kimlamberthmatic6720 I don't have the books at hand to check buy I remember the book stating that the goblet had been cursed by a powerful wizard in order for it to select an underage student (they said the goblet had been bamboozled). If the magic in the goblet can get confused by external influence, then anything is possible

Dumbledore knew what he was doing with Harry was wrong, but he did it anyway for the greater good, he hasn't really changed since he was with Grindelwald.
They had no other choice. The goblet of fire had a magic binding contract with the contestant.
One life shouldn't stand in the way of billions. Up until the goblet fire Dumbledore was raising him to be killed, after the grave yard blood thing. He raised him to survive death.
The difference between young Dumbledore and old is, when he was younger he craved power and when he was older he wanted to the power to defeat evil.
Everything that Dumbledore new about harry had to be told at a right time. He couldn't just tell him at the start of the movies. Voldemort would read his mind, and find out the truth.

Dumbledore made a big mistake by letting just Moody watch out for Harry, even if he's an old friend and not an imposter, is a friend you haven't seen for a while and you just have recently been in contact with.

This scene actually wasn't in the book.
Actually. It must have happened "off screen". Obviously, McGonagall and Dumbledore had a talk about Potter being chosen.
A fair few things from the book are missing from the movie. No Ludo Bagman, no Bertha Jawkins, no scene of the Weasley's arriving at the Dursley's via floo powder.
Ben Klein I wish they’d filmed the whole Ton-Tongue toffee sequence at the Dursley’s. It would have been hilarious.
In the book , the let events unfold line is said by Sirius to Harry when he talks to Harry via floo network , but in the movie,, they just cut off Sirius altogether

But what would have happened when if Harry didn’t participate in the tournament? How would the rule that he had to participate have been enforced?
Usually with magical binding contracts it results in severe consequences, in some cases if a magical binding contract is broken results in death, or some cursed ailment that incapacitates the individual. Like the Unbreakable Vow spell, when two parties or more if one does not keep to their vow they made to someone else that person dies as a result.

I just don't get how it can make an unbreakable vow without any consent, when it's clearly been tampered with. By this logic someone could have put a 1st year muggle born students name in the goblet. so now an 11 year old who's just found out about magic in their first year at Hogwarts has to enter the tournament?
The Goblet chooses the most worthy contestant so there’s no way it’d choose an 11 year old muggle born student
@@John-xr9ryI think it would if the person entered is the only candidate from the competing school. It's mentioned in the books I think that Harry was the only candidate entered from a different school (after hoodwinking the goblet into believing that there should be four different champions from four different schools) and that's probably the reason he got picked.

So the rule about having your name picked from the Goblet of Fire is untouchable, but the rules that there can only be 3 wizards in the Tri-Wizard tournament and that they must all be at least 17 don't matter? Sheesh, this is why the 4th was always my least favorite.
Yeah, this plot is really crazy even by Harry Potter standards.
I think there is a reason to that but it is just not explained in the books or films.
Here's a possible explanation
Mad Eye Moody ( Bartiemus Crouch Jr) performed the confundus charm on the goblet making it think there were 4 champions to be picked. Not 3
He alludes to it in the book saying something along the lines of "an exceptionally good confudus charm to make it think there were 4 schools"
Again. I don't know for sure. But based on what I was reading and what I know about "mad eye moody" (barty crouch) that's the conclusion I drew

When I first saw that scene, I was surprised, because I didn't see Harry Potter in it.
ive always wondered when he takes a memory and puts in the Pensieve(sp) does that make room for more memories or does he do it too just not forget...
So he can rewatch them
When A Memory is inserted in the pensieve, a Wizard remains only with a slight idea of the memory, to remember that he has it. It is like putting all the details and facts in a memory bank and keeping an Index of them
It does seem like it makes room for more memories. To quote Dumbledore from the book: "I sometimes find, and I am sure you know the feeling, that I simply have too many thoughts and memories crammed into my mind... ...At these times, I use the Pensieve. One simply siphons the excess thoughts from one's mind, pours them unto the basin, and examines them at one's leisure"
with how easy it is to turn yourself into someone with hair and such you'd think they'd have screening things in the wizarding world

Basically, whoever puts their name in the Goblet of Fire is forced to participate in the Triwizard Tournament, and they are unable to back out of it. It's a one time deal. However, because someone put Harry's name in the Goblet of Fire (it's obvious, I mean, we saw the Weasley Twins put in their names and it rejected them due to age), he was unwillingly entered as a 17+ wizard. That's why Dumbledore asked him persistently if he put his name in the Goblet of Fire, to see if he could change things, but the rules were already set.
