I dont know why I'm watching this and tears are streaming down my face. Maybe its because the people and the country is so beautiful.
Can’t wait to take my parents back there for a few weeks. My dads been in the states for over 35 years and hasn’t been back to the motherland. Now that I’m 34, and able to, I can’t wait to see their reaction.

Every trip of yours just seems to get more and more captivating! Like you say could just walk around all day snooping in log piles or strange plants and wouldn’t feel it was wasted time. But this area really does take the proverbial cake, for me, as an area to hunker down! I forget now which village it was on your trip several seasons ago, on the way to the cia airstrip, was the village for me you could just sit down and watch the world go by coffee in hand - maybe Ban Meaung?(guessing now)... finally able to start planning on a calendar putting Laos on the radar...won’t be soon enough.... good luck

The cabins on the river are lovely. I hope to spend at least one night there when we move to SE Asia.
That mountain looks like something out of a Fantasy painting. The whole area around that village is just gorgeous.

Mangkang is specialty for super spicey sauce it has a good distinctive aromas. Cricket don't have that nice cinnamon aromas.😁

Gorgeous video, Todd. The location of the village in the shadow of the mountain is stunning. The cats in Cambodia have similar tail issues. They're born that way, and I have been told it's a genetic mutation that originated from the Japanese bobcats. These days a full-tailer is a rarity, at least in Cambodia. 🐈🐈🐈
I have heard this explanation as well. But I suspect the real reason may be superstition and they know tourists hate the ldea of people snapping cats tails ,so invented a pseudo scientific explanation so as not to upset tourists!

Your filming just keeps on improving mate - now your letting the camera roll to really capture the essence of the places you visit instead of like many vloggers who just put 3 second snippets. Loving the whole trip up that river and more importantly meeting the people along the way. Great stuff.
Ya know mate.. I'm glad you mentioned that about letting the camera roll and capturing the essence. I sometimes think my vids maybe too long for people, they get bored, and I contemplate cutting more to fit into a shorter video.. but I've never been able to bring myself to leave so much beautiful footage out while still capturing that "essence", the atmosphere of these places.. so I just create what I like to watch, and hope I find people like yourself who appreciate these type of vids.

Short tailed cats seem to be a genetic mutation that has been promoted through selective breeding, some stories about why, but I think it was largely a perceived advantage to not have a long tail. Outside of Asia a similar breed is the Manx cat (Isle of Man, UK).
@23:23 I think the guy said, "Brake". It looks to me like it's used as a parking brake . I'm guessing maybe the strap holds down the pulley to prevent it from turning and then they remove it to disengage the brake.
