Why would anyone give a thumbs down to a simply wonderful person sharing a recipe? If you don’t like meat pies, go on to another video Or let her know that you don’t like meat pies and tell her of a recipe that you would like for her to share with you. I’m sure that she has a lot of other delicious recipes. I’m 72 and still like trying new recipes and sharing my “old favorites”.

Thank you Cynthia, Your comment is very nice. I guess there are just some people out there who enjoy spreading negativity. I get by concentrating on the positivity. On my channel I get much more positive feedback than negative. I appreciate people like you who choose to be part of my TH-cam family.

My mom used to do this with leftovers when we were kids...she did this exact recipe only she layered, beef, mashed potatoes, spinach, cheese and who know what else. She would do this often, but it was always different, she used pie crusts instead of biscuits. Since we never knew what was in these pies; we called it, pie surprise.

I made them earlier today for my five sons and my wife for lunch. I made 24 in total (basically I tripled the recipe). I added beef concentrate and egg washed the pastry and put a little Kosher salt on top. My family loved them. It was perfect for a chilly afternoon. Next time, I think I’ll add some bell pepper. Hi Linda, that's wonderful. This little recipe hack reminds a lot of people of recipes from various parts of the world. Latin people say it is an Empanada. Italians called them Calzones and I have heard them called Runza and Pasties. It just depends on where you're from. Everybody has a different stuffing. But they're always good. I hope you like them. Thank you for your nice comment.

Did Philly cheesesteak model: diced onion, green pepper & crimini with ground chuck. Add 1:1 water and concentrate of au jus. A few shakes of Worcestershire as needed. Bit of flour to tighten. Dashes garlic powder, cayenne, salt & ground pepper to taste. Drain fat. Insert plenty of slivered provolone in pocket to fit. Egg wash outside and bake to gold... 'bout 15 min. Gorgeous sheen from egg wash. Gooey, cheesy, beefy, philly goodness!!
Using 1 lb meat, decent leftover amount. Will be used in 2 cup pyrex with mash on top, then shredded jack until golden for 1 good meal.

These are basically Cornish Pasties. What you call biscuits we call scones which can be sweet or savoury. Biscuits for us are what you call cookies so I did a double take when I saw this video title! In England we would use shortcrust pastry. Shortcrust pastry recipe is half fat to flour, and half water to fat. For instance 8oz flour, 4oz butter, 2oz water. Rub the fat into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs then add the water and mix to a dough. Weighing the water is the secret! We’d also dampen the pastry edge before folding over the edges to seal and brush the whole pasty with beaten egg before baking.

    • @RosieCooks
      @RosieCooks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hi Mama Kim, I have heard of Cornish Pasties. These little meat pies have a version all over the world. In Germany and Russia they are called Runzas. In the Latin culture they are called Empanadas. Even Italians have their own version which includes marinara sauce, cheese, veggies, sausage and pepperoni. They call them Calzones. We are all connected through food!

I'v been making these since the 70's. Raised 4 boys, so used this to use up all those little bits of left overs in the fridge. Any meats, vegies left I would just chop up to small diced. Cook some rice for filler, season. Take a biscuit, separate in half. Then with my thumbs I would flatten out. Fill, add shredded cheese, close and bake. Make a little sauce or ketchup and they never lasted long.

I found that it got messy with the gravy and meat mix inside, so the second time around I chilled the filling before making the pies, which solidified the gravy to a large extent and made the process neater and easier. I don't want to drain off all the flavors of my other ingredients onion spices, etc with the grease, just the grease from the 80/20. I then add the cooked onion and garlic and all the other stuff into the drained ground beef. I do this with all my cooking of things with ground beef. Peace and Grace to all and stay safe......

@luisa Zeledon I had the same thought. Drain the fat, before adding the flavors. Even after draining the fat, there will still be enough fat so make the spices "bloom," rather than having all that flavor go down the drain.

These turned out fantastic. My husband has to have gluten free biscuits and I bought 1-2-3 Gluten Free Southern Biscuit mix and used those and they were great. If you make them GF, you'll want to spray the tops lightly with olive oil, or brush with oil or egg white to get a nice brown shade. But the filling is the star. Also, I made one batch using ground chicken with 5-spice seasoning and that was great too. Thank for a fun and simple recipe.

I am so happy to hear that you liked them. Yes, I should have brushed them with an egg wash. It was an oversight on my part, but they still came out good. Thank you for sharing your success !

If you want nice gluten-free browning then try using masa harina in place of flour when you roll out the biscuits.

Thanks for this! I just made some and they turned out great! Followed your recipe except for adding some green pepper I had left over.

On a lower heat with a little butter you can cook biscuits, so I think you can cook these in a pan.

You could do a lot of different fillings with this. Bacon cheeseburger would be good to try! Thank you :)

Hi noe, 1st of all, welcome to my channel. I appreciate you watching. This is my most popular video. There's something about it that reminds people of their childhood. It seems to resignate in various cultures. I hear them being called pasty's, empanadas, and even Runza. It just depends on where you are from. It's simple yet tasty, and I guess many cultures have a similar recipe. TFW!

Yoopers are knocking at your door with pitchforks and torches for making pasties this way. But what the heck, I'm trying them tonight. :)
Update: I made these for dinner. Didn't add the tomato paste and flour as you did. Instead, I added a 1/4 cup water and sprinkled brown gravy mix (roughly 1 TBS) then combined until it thickened a bit. Put in oven at 350 for about 25 minutes.
Yoopers will be knocking at my door with pitchforks and torches, because this was light, flaky, delicious and easy to assemble. I believe Cornish miner's wives would've made pasties this way if they had Grands biscuits.

With any recipe there is always room for kicking up a notch. I like the gravy idea. Thanks for the update. Thanks you for the visit.
