When in the Philippines, try to do what the locals do; e.g. our food normally goes with dipping sauce, we either use our hands when eating or spoon and fork. We can converse in English so never hesitate to ask how things are done the Filipino way to immerse in the culture right away. Welcome to the Philippines.
Before you guys hit the beautiful islands, Manila has a lot of spots to enjoy and visit. Start off with Makati. Here you can go to Greenbelt park and Ayala park. These parks are in the middle of the city surrounded by skyscrapers. There is a night street market in Salcedo village. Nightlife here is pretty cool. Barhop Poblacion Makati and sneak in to one of the rooftop bars and view Manila's Skyline. (I recommend I'm hotel). Then head to BGC (Bonifacio Global City), ten minute ride from Makati. This is an ultra modern city in Manila. Here you can feature amazing street art and check out the American -Filipino cemetery in the heart of the city. Silence is deafening here and the white crosses similar to Normandy and Washington. Dine in to a Filipino cuisine tasting menu at Toyo restaurant. Change gear and go to sensory overload city of Binondo. This is the oldest Chinatown in the world. Close proximity is Intramuros (historic Spanish Fort). Two Cathedrals to visit here: San Agustin and Manila Cathedral. Roof top restaurant of Manila Cathedral at night is pretty awesome. Watch sunset by the Bayside in SM Megamall (biggest mall in PH). Enjoy and safe travels!
