Xi’an, formerly Chang’an, was the western capital of 13 dynasties including the Qin, Han, Tang dynasties, and Luoyang was the eastern capital of the 13 dynasties. That giant Buddha in Longmen Grotto in Luoyang is reputed to bear the face of Empress Wu Zetian, the one empress of China from the Tang Dynasty. We went there back in 2018 along with visiting Xi’an, to revisit the golden ages of Han and Tang Dynasties. “Japanese culture” is the replica of Tang Dynasty, when they sent a lot of kentoushi 遣唐使（envoys to Tang Dynasty) to copy Chinese culture back to Japan. Nara and Kyoto, the two capitals for the two contemporary periods of Nara Period and Heian Period, were built based on the layout of Chang’an, the Tang Dynasty capital. So to see the authentic original version of “Japanese culture”, visit Xi’an and Luoyang, to revisit the Tang Dynasty culture. ❤❤❤
