    For those who are confused about the result. It was a draw. If you listen closely at 7:46 you can hear Nepo say "I offer draw."

    • @aryamantewari5122
      @aryamantewari5122 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Lars Erik Brobakken It's a win for Nepo, he pinned the white rook against the king and now his rook will pick up the queen, Magnus actually resigned because he extended his hand before he moved

    • @IvanIvanov-bx5nb
      @IvanIvanov-bx5nb 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Aryaman Tewari No it's a draw. White can simply play Qg6+ and if black takes than white will win. So black should retreat the king to h8/g8 and Qd8+ with a draw.

  • @JonathonMcStrudel
    @JonathonMcStrudel 11 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Nepomniachtchi at 7:48 whispered "Let's draw." Carlsen has no choice but to perpetual check by Qe8/g6 else he loses his Rook, which is why Nepomniachtchi offered it.

    @Mudd0000 so he have two basic lines here
    i)1. Qg6+ Qxg6 2. fxg6+ Kxg6 3. Rxd5 and white wins with material advantage
    ii)1. Qg6+ Kg8 2. Qe8+ Kh7 3. Qg6+ Kh8 4. Qe8+ (so it's either 3-move repetition or perpetual check, both are consider to be a draw)
    now in ii if 2. Qe8+ Qf8 3. Qxf8+ Kxf8 4. Rxd5 white wins
    Also check 7.49 where Ian says (watch his mouth) "I offer a Draw"

    you can tell it's drawn because he asked for the draw! ~7:48 about, nepo asks for the draw as he makes his move. Carlsen thinks it over for a couple seconds, see the inevitable draw, and accepts/gives the handshake. Nepo then stops the clock.

  • @calidude146
    @calidude146 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The question in my comment was genuine; it wasn't a joke. I don't like it when people say "common sense" simply because what may be obvious to some isn't to others. I didn't hear either of the players say "draw" at the end of the game, which is what prompted me to ask.

  • @ray8uk
    @ray8uk 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @KillaNinja0 I agree! I think people don't know the theory and play randomly!!!! I do and I don't like Ke7, its a personal taste! I don't mind the fischer recommended line for black as its dynamic but better for white, but its a matter of taste!
    maybe I haven't looked at ke7 enough, therefore this year I've started to learn 1.E5 and maybe take up the chebalinsk again one day!!!!

  • @Raddlesby

    @calidude146
    A draw must be offered vocally by one of the players and at that point, the other player has until it's his move to accept or decline the draw. If you listen closely, you will hear at 7:50 Nepo offer a draw to Carlsen after he makes his move, at which point Carlsen quickly accepts by handshake.
    All draws must be offered vocally, sometimes players whisper the offer--as was the case in this game--and sometimes they're a little louder, but a draw was offered here per chess rules.

  • @calidude146
    @calidude146 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    just one question: how do you tell the difference between a handshake for a draw and a surrender?

  • @sarbasov
    @sarbasov 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    7:47 when doing the move Rd5, you can hear that Nepo offered draw. Then Magnus accepted the offer.

    • @jonascampos5564
      @jonascampos5564 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      of course not, carlsen losed his tower, ian destroyed him, magnus decline, he lose

    • @urzareaper
      @urzareaper 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      JONAS CAMPOS LOL jonas. First of all, Magnus didnt lose the tower. He could perfectly trade it. Secondly, it's a draw by perpetual check by white (if you dont see that, I'd suggest you not to comment in this kind of videos) so there is no way he would lose the game whatsoever. And third, Nepomniachtchi offered a draw, you can perfectly hear that

    • @ryanjavierortega8513
      @ryanjavierortega8513 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrés Gutiérrez Álvarez I may not be seeing the board correctly, but if Qg6+, then QxQ, f5xg6+, forcing Kxg6, allowing for nothing more than a Draw (though I'm awful, so...), unless after the forced Kxg6, Re5xRd5, which makes it hard for me to understand an "obvious" Draw, and I was hoping you could point out something I'm surely missing. (I hope my tone isn't coming across as supercilious, as I'm genuinely trying to learn.)
      Thanks.

  • @Mrjimibanez
    @Mrjimibanez 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @calidude146 if someone offers a draw and you don't move then if you handshake (admitting that the game is over) that means you accepted the offer you 've been made...if someone offers you a draw and you move that means you are rejecting that offer so when you admit that the game is over with a handshake (if there is no new draw offer) it means you surrender

  • @ey2es

  • @IDGAFWTFMNI
    @IDGAFWTFMNI 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well a draw you tend to say/ask 'Draw?' or if you were a gentlemen like me, you would ask 'Would you like a draw'? If both players agree, they just do a casual handshake. If one resign, they put out their hand out without saying anything that has to do with a draw.

  • @narendhranathpalani

    I'm so confused, how can anyone consider this a draw... First, there is no indication of Nepo offering a draw, second, Carlsen's rook looks lost, and third, this absurd line of Qg6+ What?????
    Someone please explain to me what happens after Qg6+, Kxg6
    as well as Qg6+ Qxg6. Because both look absolutely lost to me and I think carlsen agrees.

  • @VOZZIFY

    based on the position and who offers the handshake you can usually tell what one it is

  • @charlesdarwin180
    @charlesdarwin180 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @KillaNinja0 No, not at all. But Carlson can play 1.Qg6+ where black must move his king to the 8th rank. Black loses if he takes the queen on g6. After black moves his king to the 8th rank, white can force the draw by playing Qe8+ or continue play with QxQd6. Obviously black will recapture the queen on d6 with his rook. And that's where both sides would have a rook and 4 pawns. So, it's a draw by agreement here.

    Just to explain it to those people that can't see how did black won. When Carlsen took black pawn with his rook he actually pinned down his rook since that black pawn was the only thing that was protecting white king from queen attack. So, rook can't move, if black takes it with queen white will be forced to take it with his and lose it to black rook. Black will be 1 piece up so Carlsen resigned as soon as he saw his ''ROOKie'' mistake (see what I did there, ha?) :)

    I think Carlsen made blunder because if you look Carlsen had his rook pinned to his king and so he resigned because he would lose rook.

    If white Qg6 (check) and black Qg6, then g6 (check), white rook takes black rook (white wins). Otherwise it's a draw!

    Black wins. Free rook at the end. If he moves it, it will be an open check. Its a huge handicap for carl losing his rook at that rate.

      Gano nepo, era turno de carlsen y el dio la mano significa que el resigno del juego.

      Yamil Alberto Ramos Aponte Es empate Nepomniachthli murmura draw en su ultima jugada, y Carlsen acepta dandole la mano, el estrecha su mano aceptando el empate no resignando el juego, en el analisis de la jugada se nota que es empate Carlsen puede hacer jaque con la reina si nepo captura su reina, el hace jaque con el peon entonces nepo perderia su torre, por lo tanto nepo no podria capturar la reina por eso murmura la palabra draw que es empate
